I just turned 25 years old, so I thought it'd be time to start taking care of my skin. That way when I'm 50 years old, i'd look like i can pass for 40. hehe. Are there any beauty secrets you ladies would like to share?

At 25, I think one of the most important things you can do is wear a good sunscreen -- face, neck, chest, etc. I really think, had I done this at your age, I wouldn't be battling the serious sun damage that I have now.

If having a tan is important to you, find a self-tanner or bronzer that suits you.

When you're 40, and still have the skin of a 25-year-old, you'll be glad you did!! Smile

Read about every single active that is recommended to you. Know all the side effect listed if it's a drug... research to find out what kinds of side effects people have had if NOT and FDA approved drug.

Do not introduce more than one product at a time into your routine for at least a few weeks. So you know what kind of reactions, good or bad you are having to things (same thing your mom would have done introducing you to solid foods.)

KNOW WHY you are using a product, what to expect from it, good or bad.

Address your diet, and lifestyle. Good sleep (8hours), nutrient rich foods,Get a Dr. give you a blood panel to know your mineral levels... no partying, no smoking, limit sugar, no/limited alchohol. NO/limited drug use (keep to an RX). Consider eliminating unnecessary chemicals (organic foods without pesticide... Because illness will age you more than anything. NO SUNBATHING...

Enjoy your life, eliminate unnecessary stress (that means don't take on unnecessary financial burdens... educate yourself so you don't have to work for stressful insane people)

LOL! Probably not exactly what you bargained for...

I do think a quality Sunscreen is MOST IMPORTANT, in addition to quality make up if you wear it. I don't like chemical sunscreen, but that's because I end up with a sunburn and a chemical burn all in one!

LOL... MBF... Marilyn Monroe will always now be younger than me... (I Think... how old was she???)

But there is a big difference in aging well, like a fine wine... and say, dragging your face and body through mud (not the glorius spa treatment), and expecting to look good...One look at a hard core druggy at 20 who may die young, but looks like she's pushing 40...tells you... It's not just what you put on your body, but also in it and how you treat it!

My favorite Sunscreens as of now...

Blue Lizard (it's creamy white, and leaves a residue on the body... and I don't care... I don't want gross skin!)

Kynesis... (this is a spray that dries clear, and dries FAST) I use it on scalps, and in a pinch out and about... plus my car window "arm" gets a hit when I'm with it enough to remember.

I'm really liking Juice Beauty Body Moisturizer with spf... smells good, you don't get too much white residue, and works.

California Baby white stick for face when I'm OUTSIDE for an extended period of time, in the garden or at the pool. Also leaves a VERY VISIBLE streak... again, I just don't care about that.

I use NCN's "I'm Covered", under my make up. It also leaves a white residue, which I just use as a way to 'brighten' my canvas so to speak... Then put on my make up.

Juice Beauty moisturizer with spf 30... can look a little TOO dewy on me if I'm acting oily. But I like it!

A HAT is always good. And you can by RIT "dye" with SPF, and wash your clothes in it to add some extra external protection for the body...

Lots of great advice here!

I'll echo some of the suggestions...

a. Lifestyle: no matter how many creams you use, if your lifestyle is not healthy (i.e. bad food, bad sleep, partying, etc.) then your skin will age fast

b. Sunscreen for every day use, not just when you're going hiking or outdoors

c. Retin-A at night

d. An antioxidant serum with (fresh) Vitamin C

2nd this! These are 3 most important things you can do topically for your skin.

Having a healthy diet makes a big difference too I think.

In my personal expereience... the GEL FRIES YOU FACE... no matter the strength...

NOT TO BE CONFUSED with micro gel. Have not used... have heard good reports... RESEARCH!

It shouldn't... retin-a, regardless its delivery system, works.

However, this is something to work out with your DR. Most here buy their retin-a without an RX through an online company and use it for younger looking skin... (I picked mine up in Mexico)... However, when you're battling a skin condition, I think you should work with a DR. There are many things that contribute to acne. And all those variables should be addressed...

Hi everyone,

I am also 25 and looking at getting on track now so that I am not freaking out in another 25 years. As awful as this will sound, I looked at my mum the other day (shes early 50s) and I realised the delicate lines around her eyes had gotten very deep and were no longer complimenting her age. It actually made me a bit sad because I dont like thinking of my mum getting 'old'.

Anyway, I looked back over her years of sunbaking, limited sleep, smoking, basic skincare routine and penchant for eating the amounts of salt, sugar, fat that was considered appropriate when she was younger...

I am not a sunbaker, I get at least 8 hours a night, dont smoke, avoid supermarket skincare, limit salt, avoid sugar, limit fat and even avoid dairy as it makes me break out...

I hope that these details will help me to avoid becoming a wrinkly old mess but have one other question...

How important is drinking water when it comes to wrinkles??? I really struggle to drink it outside a form of black tea or cordial.

Thoughts???

A dehydrated body is stressed. A stressed body (and face) looks older than a body not stressed.

I have just finished reading "Simple Skin Beauty" by Ellen Marmur, MD. In her book she states that intrinsic factors (genetics, gravity and senescence - the slowing down of our own body's production of collagen and elastin) and extrinsic factors ( sun exposure, smoking, pollution and environmental influences ) intensify the negative effects of the aging process!! Whilst we can't always control the intrinsic factors, we can however take control of our extrinsic factors.

So while you are still young, like the others have posted use sunscreen, don't smoke and watch your diet. I believe sunscreen is the most important skin care product you can use. Unfortunately, most of us didn't realise this when we were your age!

Except for pregnancy, try not to gain weight. Losing weight after 35 makes you look like a ghost. I have been there.

I'm turning 33 this year and I've been mistaken for a 20-something student more times than I can remember. LOL.

All I can offer is what I do:

1. drink LOTS of water. I get about 2-3L a day. It hydrates your skin from within.

2. Eat a ton of green veggies. It's a great source of vitamins and antioxidants and is alkalizing. (I admit I can't do this most days so I take "green" supplements.) This is the same idea as nourishing your skin from within.

3. Antioxidant moisturizer! Antioxidants are pretty much your insurance against skin damage by the environment and partially by the sun's UV.

4. Of course antioxidants aren't enough to protect you from the sun, so wear sunscreen daily.

I am in the same situation, having just turned 25. I've recently been introduced to NuSkin galvanic spa, and it is one of the few products that actually work! I use it for 10 minutes, and can see the results immediately - less black circles around my eyes, wrinkles a lot less noticeable, better skin colour and my whole face actually lifts! I know it sounds a bit unbelievable but once you have used it, you will be hooked onto it like me!!

It actually can be pore clogging. The microgel or the regular gel would be preferable in someone who is young and has acne.

When I was your age I figured out my diet stuff and went on the Zone. At 30 I added Blood Type and later Perricone. All are good and worth checking out. You have to train yourself to eat well and understand carbs to look good in your 30s.

What I wish I'd done: sunscreen and Retin-A. There are a lot of good recommendations on here. You could use a high ppd European sunscreen (Avene, Bioderma) or a mineral based one (Marie Veronique, Blue Lizard)

Drink lots of water, enjoy your good sleep-- try to get to bed early 3/4 of the year, and only stay up late in the summer time, as much as you can. Structure your life in a way that suits you in terms of schooling, jobs, social life etc. Eliminate stress as much as possible; forget about the past and let go of people or situations that don't suit you. Live where you want to be and surround yourself with what makes you happiest.
