I have been procrastinating the checking of my purchase dates of my eye creams. I currently have Clarins eye cream and PSF eye cream and I just checked my purchase for the PSF eye cream was in Oct 2008 and the box clearly indicated 18 Mths from date of opening.
So I have been using these 2 products which have already expired in particular the Clarins one (which is supposed to be 12 Mths from opening). The Clarins is in the form of a pump but the PSF is in a jar. Both are still not empty!
What should I do? I know you guys are going to tell me not to use them but can I use them elsewhere on my body/face? It's such a shame. Both seems okay still. They don't smell funny and seems to be no difference from my first usage. But then again I am not absolutely sure.
I have no idea why I take so long to use up 15ml of product. How much do you apply per eye area? I take about 2-3mm diameter of cream for each eye and pat it around. Is that too little? |

I won't use any expired product on my face. Use them on your elbows, knees, feet etc as they're less likely to cause you problems on those areas.
When I have used separate eye creams 15ml would normally last me about 3 months. |

hi Josh, yes it puzzles me how you all can use it so fast! Can you roughly explain how much you use on each eye area? I wonder why I never finish using them! |

A small dollop. I don't really pay much attention to it, but like all products I only use just enough to lightly go over the area. |

If they are rich enough they make great cuticle creams, I have problems with most eye creams making my sensitive eyes tear and as I hunt for the right one, that's one place I use them that I would use an expired product. |

thanks for the tip DarkMoon. Erm... what do you do to your cuticles after you apply them?
So how much eye cream do you use per eye? Anyway I am planning to order the Decleor Relaxing eye cream (for 30+) to try out. There're some good review online elsewhere though I could not find any here. |

I just massage them in to keep cuticles nice and soft, no hangnails just like a cuticle cream you can buy.
I have either gone without eye cream many days or I just use a very small drop and pat it gently in around the orbital bone. My eyes (not the skin) react to most things especially if fragranced, they get red and tear looks adorable! I have been trying one product that they tolerate well as a treatment but still need a richer cream to go over??? It's been an ongoing search. |

I would use the unopened creams. Do they smell funny? Are they discoloured? Then I wouldn't use them. To be honest if they were pricey I wouldn't want to toss them. My sister used some ancient cream belonging to my mother and didn't suffer! |

I agree doohicus if sealed and not gone funky I would also use them, I just have ended up with a massive collection of eye creams that my eyes don't tolerate so I find other uses for them, like above lips to help with lip lines and as I said cuticles love them! |

Mine are all opened and used... just not used fast enough or I use too little so I end up with leftovers when the expiry date is up.
Sounds like the amount I put is about right. Just have no clue why I take so long to finish it. Btw DarkMoon did you try the PSF Rejuvinating Eye Cream? It is quite rich so you might like that. Not sure if it will sting eyes... my eyes are pretty okay.
I apply the eye cream all over my eye area, spreading it a bit towards where my crow feet are. Now I even apply them on fine lines long my nose bridge. |

I just throw out the products once they are expired. This includes prescriptions, over the counter products, and even herbal products. There is a reason there is a "best before" or "expiration date" on the products. The worst is you lose money. Better losing the already spent money than creating more problems later and spending more to cure it, right? |

I wouldnt use it if there is discoloration, odor, separations/layers coming out of the cream. |

Of course that's pretty obvious. But mine still seems fine.... so...... I admit I still use it once in a while... What do I do when my new eye cream from EDS has not arrived! |

I'd say use a travel size drugstore eye cream in the meanwhile than using an expired eye cream. Or use a little amount of gentle sensitive skin moisturizer without any harsh ingredients till your cream from EDS arrives. By the way, which one did you order? |

How do you feel after use it? I probably would do the same until I get my new one... |

If improperly stored, for example, in temperatures higher than 25 degrees celcius, they are likely to go bad more quickly. The most obvious sign is that the cream becomes watery.
I would use an unopened eye cream if it doesn't look like it has gone bad even though it has expired (not for more than 6 mths though). Opened tubs of eye creams I will normally discard after 6 months maximum because of possible contamination. Or use it on my arms and legs (one application will empty the entire tub since they usually come in like 15ml sizes). Tubes I might keep for longer. |

I would not use any expired product on my body. It is too bad that the product got wasted. I usually use products that I don't like on my face for the bottom of my feet or something. |

10 Tips to Keep Germs Out of Your Cosmetics
By Leslie Baumann, M.D.
9. Toss old or expired products. Preservatives become less effective with age, leaving products vulnerable to contamination. Always check the expiration date, particularly with natural or organic products, which sometimes don’t contain preservatives at all.

I personally won't use any products that have expired. |

I will never use expired eye creams. Not only they are not effective, they might cause more harm than getting rid of your wrinkles.

I lost one of my ultraceuticals eye creams a while ago and found it a few months after but it had expired. Someone told me I could use it up to a year after its expiry date so I kept using it and didnt have any ill effects but I did wonder if it was still doing something... |
