So on June 20, I purposely decided to give my skin a break. I was using salicylic acid 2%, retin a (lowest percentage), doing OCM (olive oil, hemp, jojoba), 1x per week aspirin mask, sunscreen, and not much else. My face was just "okay"--I would get blackheads now and then, and acne during TTOM, and actually got a lot of cystic acne around the last week of May--so hence the COMPLETE STOP.
Now, I just use a mild cleanser, no toner, and 1x per week an aspirin mask. Well, kinda weird, but my face is completely clear, no more blackheads, whiteheads, and cystic acne since then.
I got 1 zit and just got persagel 5% from the drug store because it was near my house. That zit went away in a day.
Still eat the same, and do the same things. So could my face be telling me "thanks for the rest?" |

Some people do better with less products, less active ingredients.
It could also be that oil cleansing was causing your problems. |

Sounds like you are right. Your skin is appreciating the "break". |

I just hope that it lasts. I will probably go back to my retin-a if my face becomes bump again. My face is liking it though |

I'll have to agree with you on that one. My face broke out a bit when I started OCM, then it cleared of black heads, then they came back again. OCM is really something that you have to experiment with, I suppose. |

So, I'm still clear and it's that TOTM.
Wow. Kind of worried to back to the Retin-A and BHA/AHA.
Hmmmm...just thinking. |

I used to have the same problem. Because my pimples were mostly cystic, I couldn't help that they were so deep and I had them eroding all over the place.
So after going through Esthetics school, I slowly realized that my skin is way more sensitive than I originally thought. I am now on Dermalogicas new Ultra Calming line and with the new calming serum, it takes away all my issues including my deep and shallow pimples! On top of that, I use my Clarisonic to get rid of all the other crap and to keep my skin uber clean!
I have now realized that with how sensitive my skin is, I was breaking out because it was reacting to all of the products I was using on my skin. I kept on stripping my acid barrier and I had nothing to protect my sensitive skin.
I am happy because my skin isn't uncomfortable at all and I actually enjoy my skin. I use to think about it's condition throughout the day and try to "catch" the new ones that were coming in so I could try to treat it. Now, I don't even think about my skin because it has been a while that I have had no issues. This, my dear, is a HUGE thing for me. |

That's fantastic divalovesmusic! I wouldn't add back in any of the other actives if your skin is doing better without them. Do try to find a sunscreen that you can use though, it really is THE most important product you can use. |

I am actually having the same realization. My skin seems to have done a 180 and instead of being able to tolerate everything, it has become sensitive and my cheeks are red all the time! |

Just an update. I am using Korres QUERCETIN AND OAK Age - Reversing Night Cream just for the moisture and it's all natural. It's dry this winter so this is what I use at night, very little. A sunscreen during the day and that's it. Drink plenty of water, excercise, green tea, and yoga. So far: still no breakouts, face is wrinkle free, except for some wrinkles on the neck, but those have not been progressing. So I have been without breakouts for some time now. |
