Hello All
I am 40 I currently use DIY Vit C, SS in AM and retina and then olive oil in the pm. I use cetaphil to wash my face. My skin is sensitive. What is the most effective way to use the microfiber cloths? I have not tried them yet. Should I put cetaphil on the cloth to wash my face? or do you use the cloth to dry your face after? Does the cloth irritate the skin? I also want to incorporate niacinamide in my routine, any easy DIY recipes. Any tips, suggestions and / or comments will be appreciated. |

Start slowly with the microfiber cloths to see how your skin tolerates it.. (You can rub quite some skin off being too aggressive!)
Wet your face well, use your cleanser of choice, and work from your forehead down with small circular movements.. Keeping your skin taut by contracting facial muscles, will keep your from dragging your skin..
I use mine daily, but everybody is different.. Age also plays a part in how much to exfoliate.. I'm an old geezer, one week shy of 62
ETA: I answered your niacinamide question in that 'Dr Kassy' thread.. |

If you are using the regular Cetaphil I would suggest switching to a gentler cleanser. L-ascorbic acid is an exfoliant; you may find that plus a microfibre cloth plus sulphate surfactants are too much for your sensitive skin. |

You can use just the microfiber cloth. Its better to do gentle circular motions longer than to do it aggressively for short time. I use my cloth after washing my face with cleanser, wet it with warm water and gently use it in circular motions and then rinse. |

Why does everyone seem to think that L-ascorbic acid is an exfoliant? It's not! Just because it is an acid, it does not mean it helps to exfoliate the skin. There are many acids in skincare that have no exfoliating capability, but instead, are hydrating ingredients (e.g. linoleic acid). Much like various alcohols in skincare are used as an emollient/wax rather than an astringent. Not all acids are exfoliants, so don't be drawn into that misconception.
And I agree that you should steer away from Cetaphil. It uses sodium lauryl sulfate, which is quite irritating to the skin. You should look into CeraVe cleansers as they have much more gentle ingredients. |

Yes, you use the microfibre cloth wet, with cleanser or just with water.
Vit C acts as an exfoliant on my skin. That's not what I use it for, but it definately does exfoliate, quite nicely actually. Maybe its due to a difference in strengths?
In any case, its good advice to be careful when using it together with a microfibre cloth on sensitive skin. |
