After doing much research on sunscreens and the advantages and disadvantages of each type, it is clear that there is no perfect solution for the sunscreen "problem". I am wondering, given all we know about sunscreens and their effects, what do you prefer? Are you into cosmetically elegant sunscreens or do give up the look for the safety of the ingredients?

I don't like the choices. Not all non-nano physical sunscreens are thick and whitening. Not the ones I use at least.

Burnout Clean & Clear, Burnout Ocean Tested, Beauty Without Cruelty SPF30

Of course everyone's opinion of what thick and whitening is will vary greatly due to several factors.

I've read great reviews on Burnout, but I also read that the formula was changed and that they are not as good anymore. Have you tried the new formula?

Yes I've read people's comments on here and elsewhere about not liking the new formulas as well. I've also read some people that still like them just as well. I can't tell the difference.
The old formulas had less ingredients you can't pronounce and that plays a part in some people's opinion on them. I like the Beauty Without Cruelty sunscreen better than the Burnout ones. A real hidden gem of a zinc sunscreen. And I've tried a ton over the years.

Which BWC sunscreen are you using? Is it the one with 20% zinc oxide? The Beauty Without Cruelty actual site does NOT have full details on this sunscreen.

Yes the 20% one.

http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/498797/Beauty_Without_Cruelty_Broad_Spectrum_Sunscreen,_SPF_30/

2013 EWG rating. The current ingredients are the same. It's not showing this sunscreen the last 2 years on the EWG site but that means nothing to me. I've seen plenty of other crapola sunscreens that they thought were the best of the best.

The second ingredient is ascorbic acid which is rather unique in a zinc sunscreen. I use it topically aside from sunscreen but interesting non the less. Maybe I should stop talking about it. Seems they are out here as well. http://www.greenmarket.com/beauty-without-cruelty-bwc-sunscreen-spf-30-broad-spectrum-3-oz

A HUGE issue that is pretty much never talked about is using the correct amount of sunscreen. I like to post about this every blue moon and am surprised it is not talked about more. The other day I was watching a Youtube video from "Hot and Flashy." I'm sure some of you know who she is. She has a huge following and gives some really good advice. She was comparing zinc sunscreens and giving her opinion as to her favorite. Of course non of my favorites were on the list. Very Happy
She never ONCE mentioned the importance of applying the correct amount of sunscreen. Considering sunscreen is the #1 anti-aging product one can use I find this disturbing.
But then again I'm pretty hardcore about sunscreens. I even use a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon so I know the exact amount I'm putting on.

Non-nano physical does not have to be thick & whitening. Examples: EltaMD Physical SPF 41, Paula's Choice Barely There tinted moisturizer, some Japanese BB creams/makeup primers.

The Elta md sunscreen does not mention anywhere that it uses non-nano particles and most Japanese sunscreens do use nano technology. If you know of any that don't, please post their names.

A quote from their website:

"The nano particles in sunscreens are too large to pass through the skin and into any body system including the bloodstream."

It's hard to find some sunscreen, that works, and is light and without white cast. Recently, I tried DeVita Body sunscreeen spf30. It works good. It's light, absorbs quickly and it's physical sunscreen.

They said that this sunscreen is discontinued. She said not enough sells and people complaining it was too white. Sad

I was recently diagnosed with polymorphous light eruption (ple) also known as sun disease, there is no cure. It means I've got to use an umbrella, wide brimmed hats, long sleeves, and pashminas when it's super duper hot out there (sucks right?) I break out in these painful, raised, itchy, red patches all over with out a physical sunscreen with zinc. I was wondering if anyone else here also suffers, it's difficult to navigate these seas when I've had no issue for over 24 years. I'm kinda lost-not going to lie.
Best, Cassie
