Two months ago I developed a rather large pimple on my nose. I went to see a derm and she said it was an infected pimple. And in a month it would be gone. In the meantime I went to see another derm and he said it was a nodular pimple, and it would take another two months for it to go down. I made a follow up with the first derm because it still was there, and she told me it was now a scar, and referred me to plastic surgeons. I went to a plastic surgeon and he said it was a cyst, and he could cut it out leaving visable scar. I am sooo confused and heartbroken over this thing that has taken up residence on the top of my nose. It oozes daily lines of yellowish hard material, yet it doesn't feel like a cyst because i heard they feel like balls under the skin. It doesn't feel like a scar either as it oozes. I need some help with this please. This is really effecting my self esteem as I am only 33, and feel like my life is over : ( we are now at the 11 week mark and this thing is still there. |

Here is a DIY treatment I made up for my cystic acne pimples once they open and start to drain.
I noticed how after a day at the beach my skin seems better, and decided to try to make something up like the ocean in a bottle to draw out an infection.
-I put about a tablespoon of sea salt in 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water, heat it up until it is nice and warm but not too hot to the touch.
-Then I put it in an empty plastic water bottle and add a drop of tea tree oil and put the opening of the bottle over a cyst or inflamed acne lesion tight enough so it won't leak and turn the bottle upside down so the water is on top of it. The heat of the water feels good and makes the bottle tighten with the air pressure, giving a light suction on the pimple.
-I keep it on for at least 5 minutes, swishing the water around from time to time, and it seems to draw the infection out and make it heal quicker. It doesn't stop acne from coming, but it makes big ones go away quicker once they are there.... |

Thanks for the replies. I will try the salt water solution technique. It sounds interesting. Going to fifth doctor tomorrow for another opinion. He will probably tell me something completely different, and make me even more confused. |

Good luck Rachel. Telling you that it is a scar doesn't make any sense to me. I've never heard of a scar oozing.
Hopefully you can get some help here. There is a wealth of information from helpful posters. |

I have to agree, weeping pus spells infection to my mind and everything I have researched.
Hope you find a decent doctor with a real answer and solution soon! |

Thank you so much. I have been reading many posts from the members and everyone is incredibly knowledgeable and the support I have gotten is great. It makes me feel less alone, as for the past two months I have been feeling really sad, and alone. I just hope this "pimple" or whatever it is vanishes and I can feel like myself again. In the meantime, I will just hope for the best, and try some remedies I have been hearing about. When the derm told me it was a scar, I was shocked. But inside I knew she had to be wrong. I am holding onto hope this is a pimple..... |

Wow butterflyrainbow, that does sound interesting. I like the idea of drying out a pimple with simple salt water. And its along the lines of what I've only imagined doing to attack my worst offenders in the past! heh.
I'm wondering why so much salt/water is necessary? Couldn't it be as effective with a small amount in a small bottle? And forgive me if I'm being dense, but its the warm water in the plastic bottle that causes it to suction?
I don't get big zits all too often but I like the sounds of this one... simple and coming at it from 3 different angles with the salt, heat & suction. I'd just have to remind myself not to get to zealous. |

I don't want to come off as an alarmist, however any infection in or on the nose should be checked out and properly treated as it can cause infection to spread to the brain!
Please find out for sure! |

hope your skin gets better soon.
If I thought a doctor was not right I usually will let them know I think it is something else.
I've done that many times before that I relly don't care that much if a doctor hates me
A few months ago I ate something that gave me a rash and the doctor insisted it was a sunburn.
I asked if it was a sunburn why is it on my upper arms if I was outside less than 5 minutes all weekend and wearing long sleeves and pants??
Doctor still insisted it was a sunburn (had eaten some foods at a festival and was super itchy right after).
No idea what the best product is.
I use Mario Badescu buffering lotion- it is a liquid with alcohol, sulfur and stuff for inflamation.
It is one of my must have items forblemishes.
it is good, but dries the skin a lot. |

A cyst does not necessarily feel like a ball under the skin. It's probably either a slow draining pimple or a cyst. Either way the end result is the same. Until it's done draining, it can't start healing. If it were on my nose, I'd definitely have the plastic surgeon excise it. Yes, it will leave a scar, but if he's a good plastic surgeon, the scar should be hardly visible especially after it matures in about 6 months. Once the sutures are removed, he can recommend something to put on the scar to help so it's less visible. |

The thought of someone cutting my nose, and removing a supposed "cyst" is ridiculous. He even told me he won't know for sure what it is till he gets in there. I went to my main plastic surgeon, he told me it was a mole, and I had 2 options to have a laser remove the dark color, or have it shaved off, which will leave a white mark. I am not really sure it is a mole, because it does ooze a bit. But I will go with his theory, because it sounds logical. He told me he would never cut the thing out, because it would leave horrendous linear scar. I am waiting till december to get this done, in hopes maybe the "zit" will go away. No way am I getting an excision. Cysts are balls in the skin, and this does not feel like a pea or ball in my skin, it just feels like condensed tissue. |

I did not mean to sound rude, but I DO NOT want this to be a cyst. Positive thinking here. =) Not even sure the guy who told me it was a cyst is reputable, in 2001 he was doing liposuction on an 18 year olds neck, thighs and abdomen, and several her cartoid artery killing her. He got suied for 20 million dollars and lost. There is no way I am having him cut my nose. LO L LOL |

It really doesn't matter if you WANT this to be a cyst or not. It either is or isn't a cyst or pimple. The fact that it is still draining pretty much says that it IS a cyst or pimple. Moles do not drain.
I wonder why you would even step foot in the office of the doctor who killed a patient by severing her carotid artery!!!!
I am a surgical assistant. I have assisted plastic surgeons for over 20 years. Just because I said that I would have this thing excised if it were on my nose, doesn't mean I would have someone like that do the surgery.
I'm not sure I understand why you think it's ridiculous to have it excised. If it continues to drain, you might end up with a depressed scar anyway, just like the kind of scar that happens with cystic acne. I would much rather have a nice, thin linear scar than a large depressed scar. But, that's just me.
Obviously, you are convinced that all cysts feel like a ball under the skin, so I'm not going to be able to convince you otherwise.
You asked for help and I tried to give it.
Good luck! |

My best friend I appreciate your words. I have been hearing so many different things from so many different people I have no clue to believe. Like the derm that said it was a scar, I told her it still oozes, and she said all skin oozes and that is sebum. I am so confused and every bit of advice I get is helpful!! I am happy you are sharing this with me, because its just more advice and different opinions to add to my list of confusion LOL |

Some thing s to experiment meanwhile..
improve your diet if there is any room for improvement...especially refined sugars, refined carbs (which become sugar in the body...processed foods ...etc....and experiement to see if there is a dif if you eliminate dairy or gluten....but don't do this all at once or you won't be ableto tell what is causing improvement ..if there is any.
mag oil is great for healing..it may burn at first cause of the salt content..but you can dilute it if you need to..although it's most potent undiluted. imo Ancient Mineral brand mag oil is the most healing
get some organic golden seal liquid extract online or at the health fod store (extracted w/grain alcohol) put some on a tissue on your infection..and keep replenishing as need be..(if it dries wet it before you pull thge tissue off as it may be irritating to the infection
use some sort of clay..like green french clay... that you keep on the infection as much as possible (whenever you are at home..and ideally when you are out too, although i suspect you would not feel comfortable doing that.....zeolite is a lighterclay that you may feel more comfortable with but i'm not sure it's as effective as other clays..although it will still work towards detoxifing/drying up the infection |

i'm speaking from my own experience, by the way, not from 'list' of things to do that i saw online
you might want to also trywww.ascendedhealth.com they have a healing slave(clay with different eo's etc that heals even brown spider Otes, and is part of their protocol for antibiotic resistant staph infections as well..might help w/your infection. |

Rachel May, I can understand your frustration. When the 'specialists' can't seem to get on the same page, it is difficult to know where to turn for help. The things that Jasminerosey suggested are really good and shouldn't hurt. I'd do something like that and give yourself time to take a breath and step back a little. I know it is easier said than done.
In my experience if I can step back long enough to calm down, I make better decisions. At this point my advice to you would be to follow your gut. You've gone to a number of different sources for help and have received different options. I think you need to follow your intuition or gut instinct and turn to the person you feel most confident with. If you can't get to a point where you know where to turn, I'd start with the least invasive procedure and go from there.
The only reason I'm saying to try and take a breath is speaking from personal experience - and it is in no way meant as an insult, so please don't take it that way. When I've been really upset about something, I find that the decisions or choices I make tend to be knee jerk reactions, rather than what is best for me. I had similar situations when my daughter was a baby and needed to be treated for something minor. I was getting so many conflicting opinions and, being a new Mom, I was PANICKING. A good friend told me that she wasn't going to die, that I needed to give myself time to calm down and do what I felt was right ... it helped a lot. For me to know what was right, meant I really had to calm down and do nothing for a few days. When I made the decision, I knew it was the right one, because the panic feeling was completely gone - I felt at peace with the decision I made. When you decided how to proceed, if you're making the right decision for yourself, I suspect you'll know it. It should feel right for you.
Best of luck to you. |

TimetoBme ..and rachel may
Susun Weed, a well-known Wise Woman herbalist and healer has develope the 7 rivers of healing concept..from less invasive to most invasive....beginning w the/meditative river or 'do nothing, embrace nothingness'..all the way up to the 7th river which is invasive techniques like surgery, which will always wound as well as heal, but in the process, when they are necessary, can transform us if we allow them to.
the first river begins on the bottom of the list rather than the top.
this is from a list of classes she was giving online i believe atwww.herbmentor.com (her own site is wwwsusunweed.com
Part 9: Destroy Obstacles
Jun 24, 2010
The seventh and final river is about "hi tech" medicine or "breaking and entering." We enter the Seventh River knowing we will be wounded. We hope to be reshaped, remade, renewed, reformed. Using the Seventh River is a last resort...(the 7th river includes surgery)
Part 8: Take Pills
Jun 10, 2010
The remedies of the Sixth River are poisons. The focus is on active constituents. Substances are isolated, concentrated, extracted, synthesized, purified, standardized. Is it dangerous to take any pill? Also, nutrition cannot be put in a pill. What is the leading cause of death in the U.S.?
Part 7: Incite Strong Responses
May 27, 2010
We now cross the "Great Divide" of the Seven Rivers with the fifth river, Incite Strong Responses. To many people, this is where most herbalism lies. Remedies from the fifth river can cause harm, some more than others. What herbs are a "5.1" and which are a "5.9?"
Part 6: Strengthen and Feed Health 2
May 13, 2010
In the second part of the fourth river, we continue work on the "strengthening" with tonification and rhythms. It's one thing to nourish, and another to tonify. Learn how to create true strength in your health. The question here is, "Is stress really bad for you?" Find out...
Part 5: Strengthen and Feed Health 1
Apr 29, 2010
The fourth river is a big one, and we dedicate two parts to it. Real food gives us form and energy. What is real food? This is where Susun's passion for food shines through. What foods should you avoid? Learn what nourishment is, and how vital it is to good health...
Part 4: Restore Energetic Connections
Apr 15, 2010
Restore energetics connections in the third river. Susun meanders through many ways to engage energy and how to bring health by doing so. Homeopathy, the placebo effect, prayer, ritual, ceremony, reki, faith, visions...How powerful is the mind?
Part 3: Investigate Options
Apr 1, 2010
Investigate Options is the second river. After embracing emptiness, it may be time to move on to collecting information. Information and wisdom are both necessary in making healing choices. Diagnosis need not always be invasive...
Part 2: Embrace Emptiness
Mar 17, 2010
Go with the flow with serenity medicine. Put simply, do nothing and embrace emptiness. Learn how this overlooked healing method is one of the most powerful there is... |

Time2Bme,
Thank you so very deeply for your thoughtful words. I have often tried to get in touch with my gut instincts, and usually they are correct. In this instance I have absolutely no inner point or direction in which I am leaning towards. I feel completely lost, alone, confused, frustrated and longing for the person I use to be. I feel like I lost her. If I could just get in a nudge from someone or something(higher power?) maybe I can then make a decision, but as of right now nothing inside me is telling me what the right decision is. How do I get in touch with this feeling? Meditation? |

Jasminerosey
The excerpts you wrote are very inspiring. I am interested in learning more about the words you have wrote to me. I understand she is saying at the very end, is to do nothing, and to me that is the scariest prospect to me, because right now I feel "scarred" and somewhat deformed. I know I am more that my outwardly appearance, but to feel inside I look "different" is scary and sad to me. I know people don't scrutinize others to the extent that I do, but when I look in the mirror my flaw is the direction my eyes always gravitate towards. How can I get over this, I don't think I ever will. |

From what I've read you seem to be most comfortable with your regular plastic surgeon. If you've made an appointment in December, try accepting that that is the treatment option you will be following. Once you've said to yourself, "I'm having this done in December ..." see how you feel. For me, once I've made a decision, it will usually feel like a weight has been lifted. At some point you have to let it go, trust that you are making the right decision and hope for the best. There really isn't anything else you can do.
What I do is say ... "Please help me make the decision that is best for me". Whether you say that to God, your higher power or just put it into the universe would be based on your beliefs. You've said things like "this seems logical" - this would lead me to believe that you trust this doctor and that his answer seems to make sense to you.
The question I think you have to ask yourself is ...
Are you having trouble knowing where to go because you don't feel like you've gotten the right answer?
OR
Are you having difficulty because someone isn't giving you the answer you want to hear.
If the 2nd is what you're doing, then you won't be happy with any answer. I know it is awful. No one wants anything on their face that is oozing .. but ... it is there and you are dealing with it the best you can by going to someone you feel comfortable with and you trust. There really isn't anything else you can do.
I think the best thing you can do is to try and treat the stress this is causing you, because that certainly can't be helping. If you go for things like massage, do meditation, or even go to counselling, it may help. I don't know whether you have ever heard of Reiki. I find it helps a lot. I also really like acupuncture. If you can find a good one, it can help with the healing process and can also be very calming and relaxing. None of these things will hurt and may help your emotional state. I really do believe that we are the most healthy when we treat our whole bodies. If you don't deal with the stress this is causing you, I can't imagine that you won't end up having other skin issues or you'll end up getting sick. |
