I've been using a derma roller for 2 months (rolled twice so far). Last night when rolling (1.0) I rolled by my under eye area. Suddenly I felt/heard a "pop" - instantly a large blue lump began to emerge under my eye, under the skin, filling with fluid (blood?). I immediatly stopped and put cold water on my face.
I assume this is a blood vessel that was popped under the skin? Today there is a blue bruise that is there, and the lump/blood fluid has gone down some.
Is this a breaking blood vessel inside the skin from the roller? Blood inside the skin creating this blue bruising?
I've never had any darkness under my eyes before, and now I do have this blue bruise under this eye.
Has it happened to anyone here from rolling? Will it go away like bruises do?
After experiencing this, I think this will now be my last roll. |

Hi Sugarjolt,
I have done 3 years of 6 rolls/year using a 1.5 mm dermaroller.
With each passing year, I have done more rigorous rolls beneath my eyes. Sometimes, I have gotten what you described, broken a blood vessel or something beneath the skin of my lower eyelid. These have resolved with no residual marking within a few hours to overnight.
It probably depends on how fast you heal personally to know when this will go away.
I am not sure how this type of situation impacts others, but for me whenever it has happened it has resolved quickly and completely.
Best wishes,
HGG |

Thank you so much for your reply, hydrogeogirl.
I've been freaking out a bit over this, because it happened instantly, and the lump got quite large (the size of large cyst under my eye). The lump has lessened throughout the day, and the blueness is still there. I am hoping that it will heal in the next couple days - the last thing I wanted is dark under eyes due to me using the dermaroller. My initial roll was a great experience, and my skin looked great while healing. This time, not so much, but if it heals I will roll again. I bought this for acne scars, but at 35 I decided to do my eye area as I had a small developing wrinkle there, and this happened.
Thanks again for your reply! |

I have heard a lot about derma rolling; however, I have no idea which one to get. In one of the threads someone had mentioned that substituting a cheaper version of the roller wasn't probably a good idea. Are you all using the Derma-roller from the UK company? Is there something equivalent in quality sold in the US? I would really appreciate it if you could send me a link of where to buy it. I saw a few cheap and reasonable priced ones but I want to get what is working for most people. I will be using it primarily for old, deep, unsightly stretch marks. Thank you for your reply. |

UPdate:
My large blue lump went away after a couple days. I thought all was good and my skin would heal just as it did after my first rolling session a couple months ago.
However right after the lump disappeared I formed a huge rash all over my face and neck. A rash of track marks all from the roller. It was a mess and I couldn't go out for about 5 days. It finally settled down a few days ago and my skin now looks better.
I don't know how this could have happened. The full blown rash didn't even start to form until a week after the roll. And it took at least a week to clear up. Anyone experience this?
I'm happy my face looks back to normal now, but I never read anyone forming a rash a week after the roll, I would have thought that would be an immediate reaction. |
