Hello,
Has anyone used the Organix Brazilian keratin straightener treatment or similar?

I saw it today at a store in NYC and was tempted to buy it... any thoughts?

I had a global keratin treatment done for my very wavy very frizzy hair. I read about it online first because I didn't want extreme chemicals.

I paid to have it done (190 with tip) just to see if it's rocket science or if I could do myself. Well it wasn't rocket science, time consuming yes but really doable by yourself. It's not even as hard as coloring your hair because you leave it in your hair.

So I bought online for $148 for 8-10 applications and going to do another treatment next week.

http://www.stylebell.com/Global-Keratin-Treatment-Curly-p/sb-01053.htm

I have the exact flat iron that the stylist used (Babyliss) I've seen it at TJMAXX for 39$ although I paid almost 100$ for it.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=&rlz=1B3GGLL_en___US377&q=babyliss&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=3803952454861550911&sa=X&ei=2paDTbyXIrCF0QGF7ZzTCA&ved=0CD8Q8wIwAg#

The first treatment really tamed my hair and super easy to iron it now and have it look like real hair instead of frizzy feathers. It looks very much like "young" hair, swingy and glossy looking.

I've heard that you typically need 2 treatments at first, I'm over the moon that I know about this now and don't have to pay so much to have my hair look awesome.

You cannot put your hair behind your ears, clip or rubberband it, get it wet for 3 days, and it's sort of like you have dry goop on your hair and in my case my hair looked SO THIN. But after the first wash I was SO HAPPY I cannot tell you!!!!!

PS. Added bonus, no real smell or chemicals that I could notice and I have exquisitely sensitive chemical radar.

Thanks secretly for the site. I'm going to order this. How far apart did you do your treatments? And are you seeing improvements with each time?
Thanks...
Sis

You're welcome. I haven't done the second treatment yet. It's been about a month since I first had it done, I wash my hair about every 4 days and it still looks fantastic with ironing just after I wash it and very mild touch ups the other days.

I've had other people tell me that after the second treatment you really get all the kinks and frizz out and then only need to do every 4-6 months.

The Keratin does such great things for your hair!

This is perfect - with spring/summer and frizzy weather approaching - I'll be so glad to have this. My hair is so thick and when humidity hits the battle is on.

With thick hair and no frizz you're going to look amazing! I just did a keratin tx yesterday morning so I can wash it tomorrow. It wasn't hard AT ALL.

I'm still not sure I got out all the tight waves in the back, but it'll be better than it was after the first tx and as is I'm so happy with it. I'll let you know after I wash it how it turns out.

And........I know what you mean, I hike at the beach and am really hoping that it won't be frizzy now when I'm hiking.

Wow, it's good to read about this!

Can I ask a question? My hair turned strange the past few years - It is still silky and mostly strange on the outer layers, but my under layers have gone kinky & wire-ey (makes me worry about hormones).

Anyway, would it be a challenge to just apply it to the underlayer do you think?

Thanks, BF

It wouldn't be hard at all, but why not do all your hair? It only makes the hair look healthier so...............

But you could pin up the top hair and do the underneath no problem.

Honestly I thought it was scary at first but have done 2 treatments so far and not scary or difficult only time consuming.

This global keratin I think is much more mild than Brazilian blowout and some of the others, I still have waves when I first wash my hair, but very easy to iron out.

Bottom line, thrilled thrilled thrilled that I don't have to have frizzy hair anymore, don't have to fry it everyday with flat iron etc.

I got the product in the mail - yay! It says to use a clarifying shampoo and I did not buy theirs. I didn't pay attention or I probably would have - oh well. Did you get the global clarifying shampoo secretly or did you use a different shampoo?
I will probably try this sometime in May since I did a straightening recently. I am happy to have something that is better for my hair - like the keratin.

I didn't use clarifying shampoo but I think that's a good point and will go buy some for the next time. I use Shikaii shampoo and conditioner but I think it's mild and not clarifying, so that may be why I still have waves!!!!Shock

let us know how your hair turns out!!!! Very Happy

The Organix Brazilian keratin straightener treatment was featured on a local current affairs TV show last night - they compared it to a salon treatment. It got a very good review - the only difference with the professional treatment was that it only lasts one month, but it costs a tenth of the cost.

I ended up buying the product... but haven't used it yet.
I need 2 days where I don't go to work so I don't look like a freak!

If the amount of time and effort is the same for one month I'm glad I bought something that will last for three. I had this done in a salon last summer and it took a long time and was very expensive.
I can see me doing it every two months - especially at first to tame 'the beast' - my hair - in the summer.

In Australia, the salon treatment costs AUD$300.00 - the Organix costs AUD$30.00, so that's a huge difference.

The TV show showed the woman putting in the Organix treatment and how it looked whilst the treatment was in her hair (it has to be left in for two days). I didn't think her hair looked too much of a mess (although she did seem to have thick hair).

I had it done two days ago in a Perth salon in Australia. It was a half price special for long hair and cost me 200.
After she applied the treatment she really massaged it in right to every part of me hair ,then blow dried a tiny section at a time and then straight away straight ironed it like 6 or 7 times.Took about 1 and 1/2 hours and it looks amazing. The hairdresser told me not to wash or put my hair up for at least two days but four is recommended. She also said to straight iron if possible when i wake up and any chance i get as the heat it was makes the treatment better.
Hope this helps anyone with the technique at home.Im going to give it a go next time.

Thanks moonda - Question for you... when you had your hair done and she blow dried each section - did she straight iron it right away before going on and blowdrying the next section?
Or did she blow dry the entire head and then go back and flat iron each section?

Four days... oh my. and you can't put it up either. Baseball cap.... Sunhat.. paperbag....

She flat ironed each section straight away after blow drying.
Its actually really hard keeping it straight so far ,especially having a two year old who loves tugging on mummy's hair.
By the way Luuurrvvv this forum and all the great advice you give.happy i can finally contribute. Very Happy

Great thread here, thanks.

I am definitely going to try this once the move is done. (Please God! soon!)

I am going to take a wild stab at the one month assertion for this product vs. three months for a salon process - i.e. - that it's based on how frequently one shampoos?

One month might be all the effects last if you wash your hair daily or several times a week.

I might think that if are one of those who produce less scalp oil, wash your hair less frequently...hmm.... it might last appreciably longer?

Thoughts?

Thanks, BF

Maybe the type/strength of the shampoo and frequency do make a difference in longevity of the product.
As I understand it, it is recommended to use shampoos that are SLS free and also free of salts.
This will help prolong results. Also - It stands to reason - as you mention - more frequent shampooing would speed up the need for more frequent treatment.
(although I don't really know the A & P of the keratin product's reaction to hair.

I was advised to buy the shampoo and conditioner as it does help supposedly with maintaining your hair.It is called "Global Keratin,Pro Line,Hair Taming System with JUVEXIN.She said You need the smallest amount and a bottle should last for ages.I tend to slosh more product than i need with everything so I'm going to try very hard this time to follow instructions.
Also someone earlier in the post said they had to walk around with gunk on their hair,I had mine blowdried and hot ironed as this was meant to produce the result. My hair look great but im just worried about getting greasy hair after four days but so far it still looks like I have just come from salon.Ill try and put up a picture.

Honestly you guys crack me up Very Happy

when I had it done in salon it was gunky looking, but my hair is kinda thin. when I did myself it was the second treatment so it really didn't look all that bad.

my shampoo is sodium chloride and laurel sulfate free but not clarifying, so I'm def going to buy the shampoo they recommend.

yes I think how often you wash your hair affects how long it lasts.

My hairdresser started doing this and his clients loved it. However, he felt sick afterwards each time and found out that it has formaldehyde -- used to preserve dead bodies! So he stopped offering the service, saying his health was more important.

I did the global keratin treatment last week and as secretly said the results are wonderful. We've had nothing but rain for three months I swear) ... which makes my hair a frizzy mess and with the GK it looks healthy and manageable. I take the straightener to it still but it takes much less time and really it is just to fix it! Not a whole lot of actual straigntening needed. Drying it with the blowdryer is much easier also.

I love this product. If they ever stop making it I'll cry. Sad
