Its -20*C here in Canada (Calgary) and I would like to get away for a few days to someplace warm and sunny to relax in the USA.
I am 5 mo pregnant and don't require 'adventure' or high energy activity getaways; someplace where I can relax and read a few books, perhaps get a massage or two etc. etc. type of idea.
Does anyone have any suggestions of places they have been which were fantastic? I haven't travelled a lot in the USA and therefore don't have any great ideas...would really like to hear your thoughts on this!

Brrr, that's cold! Going someplace sunny and warm sounds great. I tried to do that this week, but it backfired...
I used to live in the San Francisco Bay area, and I think there are some great places near there to relax. There's Napa Valley, which has terrific food and hotels (and wine). More of a drive is San Simeon and Hearst Castle (I had a fantastic hot stone massage there).
But right now, the weather may not be reliably warm and sunny in those two places, so the safe choice is San Diego, where I've been in January and it's gorgeous (60-65dF). Another possibility is Santa Barbara, but it's probably not quite as warm this time of year. And Las Vegas, where I've been in December (fine weather, only slightly chilly) and had a great massage at Canyon Ranch.
Cheers,
Kay |

If you're looking for warm and sunny don't come to San Francisco now, we're having a cold spell and this is our rainy season. I think you should try southern California, maybe Palm Springs or San Diego is nice or Florida. And, there's always Hawaii. |

Thanks for the suggestions! I checked on some seat sales and it looks like there are great deals to Las Vegas...not sure when I will book, but your ideas have put me on the right track and brightened my mood!

Since you're in Calgary, Las Vegas or Southern California would be the places to go! ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

My body always gets a shock when I go from really cold to hot and then back to cold....I seem to always catch a cold afterwards |

Vegas! I'm heading there myself this weekend. There is soooo much to do there besides gambling. The sights and shows are outstanding and you're very near the Hoover Dam for sightseeing and some cute little mountain stops as well. |
