The article was a bit disingenuous when it claimed the French don't use botox or plastic surgery. Seems to me a lot of cosmetic procedures were invented by the French. I think liposuction is one. Catherine Deneuve has certainly taken advantage. I'm not criticizing her because she looks fantastic.
The key is not to get fat. American and British middle-aged women tend to look frumpy because they are fat. Besides that, a lot of French women dress more stylishly and less sloppily. |

Actually I think the article says the French aren't against having something done which I think is refreshing. |

..... main reason why I mentioned this article is I got in to an argument with some less informed people on another board... some people are actually against anti aging and Retin-a in paticular. It really suprised me. People kept saying, "Why can't we all just age gracefully, use Olay, diet and exercise..." etc.
So anyway, I googled aging gracefully and this is what came up:
http://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/features/the-art-of-aging-gracefully
Basically says to accept changes of getting older, not prepare for or challenge them.
The French article also came up in the search. |

The French certainly know how to enjoy life and live in the moment.
They are very high maintenance and would never admit that any effort was made to achieve their daily look.
I am guilty on hair maintenance. I get a blow dry done on regular basis and style it on daily basis. It reflects the way you see yourself on the inside and that is very important.
I've cut back a lot on all the serums and lotions I've owned, because I felt there was so much clutter and no time to apply all of it on on daily basis. |

"Growing old gracefully" would be lovely...if we lived in a culture that respected or even cherished the elderly. But in the United States, older people are pretty universally marginalized -- ignored, or treated as if they were unattractive children. Shunted into assisted living facilities by ungrateful offspring who are counting the days until mom and dad kick off so that the kids can divide the loot.
As an aside, I notice that in many news articles, the only piece of data provided about a person is his/her age. The one characteristic over which we have no control, and yet it seems to be the most significant. |

I would never put either of my parents in a facility. I would love to care for them. And they are both beautiful inside and out. |

I know in America we see this selfish attitude but it's how you're raised and who you are friends with that helps determine the attitudes. |

You can age gracefully if you have enough money. |

LOL! Definitely in the States!
In France, a tube of tretinoin cream costs as little as 3 euros, and you can see a good derm for 20 euros, so I think anyone should be able to age gracefully here... |
