I'm using the Obagi nu-derm system and I am experiencing some dryness and flaking of the skin. I was wondering if I can use any moisturiser that is sensitive, or does it have to be Obagi Action for best results?
Thanks. |

Dryness, flaking, peeling, and redness are all very normal when you are using Obagi. It's part of the process and using a moisturizer is discouraged. Your skin will acclimate to the products eventually and the "side effects" will lessen to some degree.
Belief, are you under the care of a derm/ps? I can't remember! If so, I would definitely seek their advice first.
You can use Obagi Action or Tolereen if you really need it. |

Thanks, no i'm not under the care of a dermatologist due to the cost, but I asked my dermatologist what nu-derm products I should be using and she recommended to use them all in the system.
I am using it for acne. I previously used 0.05% tretinoin for 6 months, but have since bumped it up to 0.1%, as 0.05% was not really having much effect. I also have some hyper pigmentation left over from previous acne that I hope will clear up.
I just find without using moisturiser my face gradually gets very red and very noticeably flaky and scaly. |

Using 0.1% retin a is pretty strong. Are you sure the 0.05% isn't suitable?
No doubt, you will definitely be red and flaky!
Hang in there! |

Thanks for the encouragement.
I am going to back off of using the products for a bit and introduce them back in slowly. 0.05% tretinoin stopped working on my acne after a while, my skin started getting very oily again. I really need to use the tretinoin every night to keep my acne at bay. Maybe I can slowly introduce each product in or alternate between 0.05% and 0.1% tretinoin on different days. I think that would work best for me. I will let you know how I get on. |

Yes, you really need to experiment a lot with Obagi. I find everyone has a different regimen they end up following with Obagi because it is such an evasive regimen. Keep trying to mix with different amounts and see what works for you. Action I found helpful for peeling especially... |

I am in my four weeks of my obagi experience, at be beginning of using this system, I also got a dreadful peeling, and my skin become very dry, and I try to apply some moisturiser at the end of the routine, but It make me breakouts (I am not prone to breakouts ), so I stop using it, and try some facial oil instead, I found it worked. You can try a moisturiser, if there is an improvement, you can keep on using it. |
