....nuclear plant radiation? Many are trying to avoid their food but what about products that're applied to the skin? Any ideas? |

Anything that's on store shelves (or in your home now) would of course be safe as they were manufactured well before this terrible disaster began to unfold.
I would imagine that production of skin care products, like many other products, will be stopped until safety can be assured and resources become available. Many companies have had to suspend their manufacturing. |

If the products are available at a brick and mortar store, I'm sure your own country's regulatory body must have done due diligence on imported goods? |

I think the products would be fine as they were not made a few weeks ago.
You could always contact the company w date of manufacture and then decide?
I don't think I want to use any Chinese made cosmetics.
A lot of the cheaper brands at the drugstore are Chinese made (like NYC,Wet Wild and others)
Actually I sort of take that back.
I do buy Chinese tea from someone in China, but that is just the tea leaves and they have been fine so far.
I was actually going to get some Japanese food for dinner today-didn't bother as the restaurant has bad hours..maybe later this week I will go there though!
I know sometimes smaller Asian stores import their own ingredients and stuff.
one store I went to the owner would order special ingredients and some kind of mushrooms to use at his restaurant and also to sell at his store that was beside the restaurant.
-his store is closed now though
I always try to look at the dates on stuff..don't realy have an answer |

Lol,
I just tried Amarte skin serum and it is supposed to be made with "hexagonal water" or some magic thing....
it smells nice like cucumber, but not sure it does much else.
What Korean brands are good?
I tried a sample of a cream from Charm Zone some Korean lady gave me at a local store...cream was nice, but I forget which one it was..... |

i think right now, the products will be STILL ok, because the batches are made before the radiation exposure; however may be next couple months up to the end of the year, I will try to avoid Japan skin care products. and NOW i am still thinking should in stock a few of them up ?? |

Wow, that is a great question! I hadn't thought about skin care being affected by the catastrophe that is going on over there. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. |

Ottawa Shopper, Japan is totally different from China. I don't think I know any skincare from China and even if there is, I'll stay far far away from it. I know many think ppl from HK or Taiwan are the same as those from China BUT there's a huge difference in terms of manners & products.
Anyways, now comes my next question, since TW is so closed to Japan and I heard the radiation affects them somehow. So should I stay away from TW products later on then?
This is just so~ frustrating! |

The frustrating thing with this radiation and affected goods is so many of the products we buy, it is not labeled what the country of origin is.
like a lot of the cheaper apple juices are made with blends from China.
A lot of the cheaper candies and crackers I have seen lately, like some store brand ones it just says "packed in Canada" with imported ingredients.
No indication of where those foods are from.
Right now I am buying mostly locally produced foods from the farmers co-op.
So all my meats, juices, breads, vegetables are from Quebec and Ontario |

I've long be a fan of Japanese products and I also worked with one of Japan's huge cosmetic company in the past.
I'm sure that the stuff that's on the counter now should be fine because many of them have been manufactured and shipped to the warehouse long before the chaos.
Because of my experiences, I have confident that Japan wouldn't produce or export the products if they're harmful in any ways but as we all know, nobody really knows what's happening and going to happen due to this radiation explosion. So for the time being, I'm just getting another set of skincare since I'm half way through my current ones but while I'm at the counters (especially Japanese brands), many customers are aware of the radiation and I've seen a few people that bought a lot in order to stock them up. I also noticed that there's less customer significantly at the counter (FYI, I'm in Asia). Some ppl on forums online take it to the extreme saying that they'll never buy Japanese products.
I believe if there's anything wrong, big companies like Shiseido, Kose, Kanebo etc. will inform its customers. So we just have to keep checking with them to update on further info. |

I am sad to say this but new batches of any thing coming from Japan whether it is skin care, food or auto parts has a possibility of being tainted by radiation. The type of radiation is a mixed oxide type and it is very deadly. It is thousands of times more potent than regular type. I also do not know if the govt. is being truthful about the situation as to limit panic.
I really like the people and products from Japan and my heart just breaks at their suffering. |

queenielau718, I guess it really depends on when they last manufactured their products. I emailed one of the TW companies that I usually ordered from and asked them about the safety of their products due to the radiation. & of course they would say that everything is fine and safe....so I guess we just either believe them or look somewhere else.
But now when I think of it... I think it's only a certain distance within the nuclear plant that's of concern. Even Tokyo is safe I heard. So TW or other asian countries should be alright I think...although I'm not 100% positive. But when u come to think of it, everything poses a risk of radiation such as our cell phones, computers, TV, x-rays...all those gadgets.
So yeh bottom line is....depends on your own preference and you just have to weigh out the pros & cons |

Are there any way that this deadly mixed oxide type of radiation be detected when Japanese products are exporting to other countries? Is it just Japan or those near it too? |

Stardustdy, i am just worry about the contaminated water, the news said the seawater has over 10000x the normal radiation limits.
Yesterday I checked on the Shu uremua webstie and look for some cleasning oil; however all kinds of cleansing oil are sold out and out of stock >< |

hhm... I guess ppl are trying to stock up on the products. But if the water is contaminated in TW, that means the products might be too unless they don't use water at all in their stuff...... What do u think? I really don't know what to think... |

I think it's not safe to buy Japanese products now... the US has currently banned import of something (can't remember what) from Japan |
