I started the HCG Lean Extreme diet program yesterday...anyone else doing this or have done it? I would love to have some support and feedback. This is definitely extreme and I hate that I have succumbed to, "I'm desperate and will try anything for results", mentality but here I am!!
The thing that is bugging me the most...I'm not supposed to use any of my skincare products with oils or fats for 23 days...really?? Give up my skincare routine for 23 days?? Oh and I forgot about my vitamins and supplements...none of those either!!Now that is EXTREME. Funny i wasn't that bothered by the 500 calorie a day, super restrictive diet!! |

You need to make a lifestyle change that you can live with long term instead of using these gimmicky diets. Eat 500 calories of only candy everyday and I promise you will lose weight! You can even continue using your skincare products. If you starve yourself you will only binge later and regain the weight as well as slow down your metabolism even more.
Why don't you check out sparkpeople.com or similar boards to talk to other overweight people who are sensibly losing weight by eating less and exercising more? |

Thanks for the feedback Softskin...my head knows this...my Santa Claus believin, lottery winning, he'll never do it again, delusional heart needs some work!!
Maybe they'll come up with a miracle product to cure that... Oh yeah, I think they did and its called therapy! LOL! |

I don't get it...are they implying that oils in your skin care result in calories? That just doesn't happen.
I really hate to see anyone do extreme diets like this. Of course you will lose weight on 500 calories a day but you will have no energy for sure. And once you start eating again you will gain some, if not all, of the weight back. |

OK...to be fair. The Italian Doctor that did the research, gave the injections, and monitored the results goes into mind-numbing detail about how adding hcg floods your blood stream with stored fat from the fat cells to keep you from being hungry, fatigued, or gaining weight. There are incredibly strict rules about maintenance once you come off the 23 days of 500 calories...no starches or sugars, but you increase to 1500 cals for 3 weeks.
I will say i have felt great the past couple of days and i was down 3 pounds this morning! |

You just lost water weight as anyone does on any diet or just by eliminating starch and sugar. I predict you won't be feeling so great in another week.
Judging by the cost of those "diet pellets" your wallet is going to be a lot lighter, too.

I am reading about this diet all over the Internet... there is a lot of buzz. I hate to admit this, but I went to the website and couldn't make heads or tails of it. The real question is long term maintenance.... begin with the end in mind. If a diet is something you can do pretty much forever it isn't worth looking in to imo. |

It looks like I will be the guinea pig for long term. I have lost 7 lbs. so far and feel fine. I am hungry at times but not ravenous or weak. I went to the gym for the first time today and lifted weights and was surprised that I'm not feeling more fatigued.
I also must confess I'm not overweight. I just really wanted to get tight and toned for bathing suit season. Dr. Simeons says you will stop losing weight as soon as you have lost your "abnormal fat" even if you continue to follow the diet. I haven't stopped losing, so clearly not there yet. I found his downloadable book very helpful in understanding how this works. It's onwww.fatforenergy.com/support-kit. |

If you are burning more calories than you are taking in, you will lose weight and it will be muscle. Ask any anorexic. |

Loribar
I read that you are encouraged to take vitamins, just not the ones that have fat, i.e. fish oil, etc.
How have you been doing? I have recently been looking into this as well. Thanks for posting about it. I am kind of in the same boat as you. I have never had unhealthy eating habits, I, uh, believe, in exercise (ok, I have fallen off the wagon a little), but now that I am 40 I would like a jump start. I find that I have gained some poundage that I would like to lose. I'm not overweight, but I'm not exactly slim anymore, either.
At first I was appalled, but the more I researched it, the more I wanted to hop on the bandwagon. And I'm a late hopper! It may be a little extreme, but it actually seems pretty sound to me. I've really tried to look into side effects from the hcg (that gives me more pause than the low calories), or if people just gain back the weight, but so far, so good. I mean, this isn't a "crash" diet in the conventional sense, you're not just eating gummi bears, for goodness sakes.
Go, Loribar, go! You can do it!
And Softskin, the hgc is taken so that you won't burn muscle. |

That is, the hcg triggers the fat stores, but you are eating plenty of protein, which guards against muscle loss. Just to be more accurate. |

Hey hyacinthgirl,
I have had great success so far...down 12 pounds in 19 days. I have lost several inches all over my body and back in clothes that haven't fit in a while. I am so excited about the fat that has come off in all the right places. In the past when I have been at this weight, my face looked gaunt and so far that hasn't happened! The only time I haven't felt well are the days after a weight workout at the gym...much more wiped out (I haven't attempted any cardio for the 23 days on very low cals). I am going to skip exercise for the next week and start back after I'm back up to 1500.
I definitely look forward to every meal and the calories I take in are the highest quality....fresh fruit, vegetables, and the leanest of proteins. If you decide to take the plunge, let me know and I'll give you my tasty, super easy recipes.
I'm starting the 2nd phase this Friday...so very interested to see what happens with the 3 weeks of maintenance and thereafter!
Let me know what you decide! |

Loribar, your name reminds me of Larabar. Yummy! Are you allowed to have them on your diet?
Me, I don't like to diet. If I want to lose weight I just eat less of whatever I normally eat. My problem is sweets now with all the blasted Easter candy to tempt me. Can't wait for this holiday to be over because there will be no more temptations until Halloween. |

I'm salivating at the thought! Oh and I almost forgot about those cadbury cream eggs they have right now. I would kill for one of those!! |

The hcg drops are sold all over the Internet. How do you know they're the real thing? |

You know, Gretchen, I've been wondering the same thing. I know there are tests – sort of like pregnancy tests, I guess – so that you can make sure that the hormone is in your system. I suppose you have to make sure that the company you get the drops from has a guarantee.

Loribar, thanks for the offer! More variety is always a good thing in my book. The recipes I have seen look delicious and easy. I will keep everyone posted for when I take the plunge. I have to order the drops and get my ducks in a row. |

I made my own Larabars last night: pitted medjool dates, almonds, dried cherries, lemon rind and juice. Processed them in food processor until they just held together. Yummy!
I always need something sweet so I figure getting it from fruit is a bit better than candy and cake. Strangely, I can eat half an ounce of bittersweet chocolate and not want more, but if I eat milk chocolate I crave more, so I try to avoid it.
I get an annual blood test that shows your sugar intake over a period of months, not just that day, and I always "pass" so I'm hoping my body type is less sensitive to the deleterious effects of sugar. Still, I don't need the extra calories. |

Loribar, that is excellent! Woohoo for you! I ordered my drops today. I want to lose 20 lbs. (I never thought I would say that), but I will be ecstatic if I lose 17.
I am back in the gym and on the trail, too, but I guess I will have to curtail that a little while I am on the diet.
Are you using any of the flavored stevia drops? I've seen recipes where you make desserts or drinks with stevia flavors like toffee, orange, etc.
Softskin, your bars sound yummy. One of the things I am looking forward to is that the diet will make me give up sugar. (You can have fruit and stevia on the diet.) I try to stay away from sugar to begin with, but the bf, he twists my arm into eating bad things. *chuckledy chuckledy* |

Sorry hyacinthgirl...we are in Seaside, FL having a fabulous spring break...so I haven't been online!! I haven't tried the flavored stevia drops, but I used Truvia (which alot of people said don't use, but it didn't affect my weight loss at all). I used a ton of it every day, sprinkled on strawberries and on my favorite breakfast...a cut up apple with truvia, cinnamon and cloves baked for 2 min. in the microwave. YUMMY...tastes like apple pie!!!
I have to tell you maintenance is heaven! Eggs, cheese, mixing of veggies, hummus on cucumbers, oils, fats...heaven!!
Good luck! I wish you the greatest of success. I am here for any support you need! My dh has commented several times how great I look in my bikini. It is a hard 23 days but soooo worth it imho! |
