I ordered this several weeks ago after Jimm I believe it was, highly recommended this line. I have been using this sunscreen on my neck and I have to say it has to be my favorite out of all I have tried. (Just a note: I don't use a sunscreen on my face because I have so many layers of serums, foundation and powder with zinc, etc. in them that I am adequately protected.)
The MV Face Screen comes in two formulas: one for normal to dry skin and one for normal to oily skin. I ordered the normal to oily skin version. I have trouble with most sunscreens looking oily on my neck and I hate that because it emphasizes the wrinkles. This is the only sunscreen I have ever used that is matte and stays that way all day. There is absolutely no white cast to it. It does have a sort of odd smell which I think probably comes from the essential oils but I've gotten used to it and have come to like it. As far as protection, I guess it's doing the job since I haven't had any change in the color of my neck since I've been wearing it. What really sells me on this product are the ingredients:
Quote: |
No harmful chemicals, nanoparticles, parabens, fillers, waxes, or fragrances.
100% vegan
Active ingredient: zinc oxide, 24%
Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), zinc oxide, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), Prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam seed oil) capric/caprylic triglycerides (fractionated coconut oil), Helianthus annuus (sunflower oil), potassium sorbate, vegetable glycerin, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Elaesis guineensis (red palm oil), Cosmocil CQ*, lecithin, Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn oil), Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle) Rosemary oleoresin, xantham gum, Daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil, Cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil, iron oxides |
The price is $40 for 2 oz. but I think it's well worth the price. They also sell a tinted version. They sent me a sample and I tried it on my fair skin. It seemed to blend in very well and would work as a tinted moisturizer for anyone who likes light coverage. |

I'm curious how it doesn't leave a white ghostly coverage, with such a high percentage of zinc oxide that is not micronized? Also with 9 oils plus glycerin in it, any idea what ingredients keep it matte finish once it sinks in? |

I don't know the secret, caboodle. I compared the ingredients of the normal to oily formula with the normal to dry formula, and there are a few more oils in the normal to dry such as emu oil. I know some oils are "dry" oils that sink into your skin and don't make it oily so maybe the oils used in the face screen are those. |

i am sure you can write to Marie. She responds pretty quickly and thoroughly. I have been planning to try her sunscreen for awhile now since her reformulation. |

Zinc oxide is drying to the skin so I am guessing the oils counter the drying effect and if you get the "right" balance of zinc oxide and oils, it will be non-drying and with oil control at the same time.
I am also wondering how it is possible to have little or no white cast with such a high % of zinc oxide but I suppose it's a trade secret and they won't disclose. |

The MV products have always intrigued me. I've looked at that site so many times. I even have some products in my favorites. |

I'm interested in some additional products too, but then I look at the ingredients and think I could do a DIY version at a much cheaper price. I just haven't gotten around to it. |

I have tried the reformulated one without the emu oil in it. I find that this product could work very well if you have the right skin tone for it and use the right moisturizer underneath if your skin leans on the dry side. So there's a bit of a learning curve to it.
I do find it a bit hard to believe that it does not leave a slight white cast because it did for me. Granted I have darker skin color but with it not being micronized, it will leave some cast on your face. But if it's suited to your skin tone, it could act like a tinted moisturizer.
I no longer use this sunscreen for reasons stated above but also since there are other sunscreens to me that perform better at a reasonable price. Although I do have to say that the 2oz bottle does last a while. |

I was almost out of my DIY pearl cream, so I decided to give the Marie Veronique Anti-Aging Day Serum, SPF 20, a try. All I have to say is UGH. I do not like it at all. I'm very fair-skinned and it makes me look ghostly, even after I've put foundation over it. It drys quickly so if I don't rub fast enough, it leaves white chalky marks on my skin. It settles into lines and pores, making me look 10 years older. It's also very drying - there's no moisturizing with it at all. Ingredients are:
Quote: |
Active ingredient: zinc oxide, 18%
Ingredients: Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), zinc oxide, emu oil, Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), Calodendrum Capense (yangu oil), Prunus avium (cherry kernel seed oil), Brassica oleracea (broccoli seed oil), Punica granatum (pomegranate seed oil), Polypodium leucotomos (Calaguala fern extract), vegetable glycerin, potassium sorbate, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Coffea arabica (coffeeberry extract), Cosmocil CQ*, lecithin, pearl powder, silk powder, Avena satire (beta glucan), n-acetyl glucosamine, Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle) Rosemary oleoresin, xantham gum, Helichrysum italicum (helicrysum essential oil), Cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil |
The only positive about it is it does protect from the sun and doesn't come off even when I've been sweating in the heat.
I'm still loving the Face Screen, though. |

Well, the MFS regular for normal to oily has been d/c'd by MVO to "streamline" their line. The message I got is that not enough ppl liked the normal to oily formula!! What a shame: I finally find a SS that doesn't leave my skin like the oil spill and they stop making it. I've written to MVO numerous times protesting, but their answer is always the same.
Please, if you liked the regular formula let MVO know you are unhappy about them d/c'ing it!!

Thanks Fawnie.
Do you have other favorites - since your skin is on the oily side? It's not a cheap product line but I like their philosophy and would like to support the company - I just don't want to make an expensive mistake. |

I probably got the same message you did, Fawnie, and truthfully it almost convinced me that maybe the other formula would work for me. They said even the most oily person in their office likes it because it leaves her skin matte. Granted I haven't tried the other formula, but I just can't imagine that it would leave your skin matte. Have you tried it, Fawnie? |

I discovered that I had a sample of the PLUS formula so I tried it on my neck over the weekend. While it doesn't leave my skin quite as matte as the regular formula, I think it will be ok. I don't think I'd ever be able to use it on my face, though, which is an oil slick in the summer - but then again, I probably wouldn't be able to use the regular formula on my face either. |

I finally get to try the MVO Moisture + face screen SPF 30. It's the new version. I got the light tint one. To be honest, I'm slight disappointed in the product although I'm sure it might work very well for some. Perhaps it's just my skin...I don't know.
I cleansed and toned as usual and applied it. I'm quite fair so the light tine is suitable. I might also try the Med. tint sample just to compare. In terms of texture, it's a bit hard to spread evenly. I feel like I have to rub it in hard or otherwise, it'll be a bit cakey. It also accentuates the dry flakes I have. It also doesn't look natural on my flaky nose with pores. It doesn't provide that dewy natural look for me. It looks kinda matte and dry. It feels nice when I tried it on the back of my hand though...well, everything's good when it's on back of hand LOL
I guess I'll try again tmr with a serum underneath and see if it makes any difference. Oh also, it just evens out your skintone but can't really cover much in terms of acne marks. I can imagine somebody with oily skin would like it. I have to experience more and decide. |

Stardustdy,
I have no tint & light tint and find that all 2 leave white cast on my skin; in addition, they are cakey as you mentioned.
No matter what I put underneath (oil, water/oil based serum & moisturizer), I can't spread it well on my skin and find the finish horrible.
Also, on all occasions, I did exfoliate my skin with microfiber cloth or AHA serum prior to using the MVO sunscreen.
In fact, quite a number of people share the same issue:

I'm actually glad that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I tried again this morning with a serum underneath and it's still hard to apply. I found that applying a thin layer and patting it in and then blend seems to apply better. But I still don't really like the dry slightly cakey look
So r u still using it then? I'm wondering if I should just return it. U know wat, I found that's the case for all high Zinc Oxide sunscreen...especially if there're no silicones. But I wonder why it spreads so~ well on the back of my hand. |

Maybe it's because the skin on your back of your hand is smoother? I've been wondering if the reason why some people have such different reactions to the same product is because their skin texture is different.
But- the way sunscreen spreads and looks on your hand it always misleading, for me. All the issues that come up will only register when you apply on your face.

No, I have not used it anymore. I passed those 2 bottles on to 2 of my friends & both of them find them cakey too. |

For those having problems with the cakey application, perhaps mix a little oil or HA serum with the SPF lotion before face application. I would even spritz your face with water or toner to make it easier to spread. This method will dilute the SPF a bit but I think that should help.
I have been meaning to try MV sunscreen for quite some time and was going to visit her shop when i was in San Francisco area earlier this month too, but completely forgot. The review for the new formulation doesn't sound promising at all though. |

I'm no longer using the Face Screen. I've switched to the Kid Safe Screen instead. I have found that it definitely makes a difference in application with what I put under the sunscreen. If I use something matte, I can hardly spread it and I have to rub my skin practically raw before it blends in. |
