After researching this topic for a very long time, here's what works for me:
1 ml spoon of L-Ascorbic Acid powder (finely milled) stirred into about 2 ml. of distilled water. Add enough Garden of Wisdom base gel to fill a 10 ml. cup. Stir all ingredients well, apply immediately to face and backs of hands.
Make a new batch the next day.
Since I use it right away, I know it is fresh and not yet oxidized.
I was measuring with a pH strip, but noticed it always came in at about 2.5, so I don't need to check any more.
This is cheap, easy and duplicates the methods used in the Vitamin C effectiveness studies.
I realize others like to add Vitamin E to their serums, but from what I could tell, this was primarily used to delay oxidation - and since I use my gel right away - I saw no need for it.

I really like the simplicity of your serum Barefoot. Not sure if I would stay motivated to make up a fresh batch every morning though. Do you think a few days worth of this serum would keep well enough if it were refrigerated? |

pH 2.5 is very acid...
Can you skin tolerate it?
And how could you manage to get rid of 10ml of this one time? There is just too much if you just apply it to face and hand back. |

I do not know how quickly the serum oxidizes and so I just apply it after I make it - now that I have it down pat, it only takes me a minute or two.
I chose 10 ml because those were the size of the tiny disposable spoons and measuring cups that I could find. I did not want to have to wash any measuring tools.
I do have lots of serum (and it's so cheap that I don't worry about it)....so I apply it first to my face then hands and arms.
I have not noticed much stinging at this pH level.

Hi Bira,
The Lotioncrafter site sells the little tools that I use, so you can see them there. I use the 1 ml. spoons and 10 ml. cups.

Hi bfg!
These days I mix l-a acid with water & msm fresh.
About the Vitamin E, I think its Kassy_A that says that it really amps up the effectiveness when they're combined. I'd love to use it but the risk of oils/gels left on my oily skin puts me off. Plus I used to put my concoction in a spritzer bottle, and the vit e gummed it all up and was insane to clean. |

Not sure Matrixyl will respond well to such a low pH, being a peptide (small protein). You might be better switching to a different form of vitamin C or making separate products. |
