I made a really great moisturizer today using flax gel as the base.
The only problem is that the oils in flax gel are quite sensitive to oxidation. I added some rosemary extract, but I'm not sure if that is going to be enough. I'm going to add vitamin e next time.
Anybody have any experience with this stuff? How can you tell when an oil has gone rancid (as in oxidation). I'd like to be able to not have to refrigerate it. |

Hi Coconut (your name is so CUTE!)
I didn't know that about oils in flax being especially sensitive to oxidation. The only experience I have with flax gel is for a diy hair gel and I use a pinch of citric acid - AND need to keep it in the fridge, unfortunately.
Lanolin or emu oil? I've heard honeysuckle extract works too... never tried it but it sure sounds nice. Borax or lecithin?
And my oils (avocado for instance) smell bad once they've gone rancid. You can really tell as they smell changes and imo gets quite a bit stronger than what it was originally. I have a good nose, so maybe ask someone else who does if you're not sure. |

One more thing I forgot to add, is that with my flax seed gel, its completely obvious once the whole thing's gone south because it goes from a gel (actually normally quite a slimey consistency unfortunately), to a thin, watery one. |
