I've just finished my first week of obagi and everyday up to today I've asked myself this question.
My face went from burning to itching to peeling, now I have hive-like rashes.
Is this something everyone has experienced or am I getting a real bad reaction to obagi?
Is obagi worth all the stares and questions of being sunburned? I'm starting to lose faith in obagi already and want to quit everyday. |

Hi Lucklady,
Redness and peeling are very normal reactions to Obagi, but I think you might be having some type of allergic reaction. How long have you been using the products and what percent is the retin a you are using?
A lot of people are finding that the Exfoderm (Forte) and the Sunfader are causing problems for them. Are you under the care of a derm? If so, I would definitely give him/her a call.
For now, I would consider stopping everything until your face returns to normal.

Hi Kims, I bought the products from an internal medicine dr, not a dermatologist. Weird that a internal medicine sell it. Anyway, the retin-a is at .05%. In another thread, someone said that you should use a pea size of retin-a, I was using the same amount as the bender.
Do you know if there is anything additional I can use to help the redness and peeling? |

Hard to know whether this is the normal process or an allergic reaction as you mentioned hives.
Is it possible you may be allergic to the sodium metabisulte in the Blender and Clear?
Perhaps back of the programme for a few days, let the skin settle and then start again. If really concerned, make an appointment with a derm that offers obagi treatments. |

For the redness you can use aloe vera gel or zinc oxide cream. |

I would definitely put a call into his/her office and at least try to speak with a nurse. You also might have better luck starting with 0.025% retin a and working your way up. Using 1/2 gram of RA is recommended.
Some people who have difficulties with Obagi in the beginning, slow their usage. Ex. use every other day and build up to a daily routine. I just don't think hives are a "normal" reaction.
Let us know what happens! |
