I have been reading anecdotal reports of Accutane causing or worsening dark eye circles due to its skin thinning effects. If you had dark circles under your eyes prior to taking Accutane, did they get worse? If you didn't, did dark circles form while taking Accutane? Please note your dose and length of treatment. Any other insight on this topic is appreciated.

Olosir,
Aren't you quite young? I can't recall my exact dosage as I took Accutane in my 20's, but it did not create dark circles under my eyes. In fact, everything about my skin post-treatment was amazing!!

Do you have under-eye circles that you're concerned about?

Yes, I'm fairly young, but I have some issues with dark circles. I don't want to exacerbate the problem.

As an aside, I'm on Day 3 of 20 mg. Today I felt a little out of sorts and noticed some soreness and dull aches in my legs. Hopefully, this will subside.

Yeah there are a LOT of side effects associated with Accutane and there's even a lawsuit going on for the manufacturers due to them not disclosing all the potential side effects. Not trying to scare you or anything, but make sure you read up on all the side effects and report all of them to your pharmacist if you can - and also report ones that are not listed as side effects from the manufacturer.

You might be able to find more people with Accutane experience over at acne.org, for example: http://www.acne.org/isotretinoin-accutane-reviews/29/page1.html

Having been on several courses and dosages throughout my lifetime, I have never had an issue with undereye circles or darkness.

I've taken 2 courses, 5 years apart. No dark circles before or after. Great skin after. Lots of side affects during, all of which resolved afterwards. Worse was sore tendons - I had to walk sideways down stairs because my ankles were so inflexible!

I took another dose today at lunch. About four hours later, I started experiencing brain fog. It's still present tonight. This definitely concerns me. I feel stupid and groggy. I have a few options: continue at this dose every other day, drop to 10 mg every other day, or stop taking it entirely before this gets worse.

I don't want to panic because I know Accutane will help my skin, but I can't deal with constant brain fog.

Don't change/skip the dose until you've spoken with your doctor. Changing the dose when it's not needed can also be damaging. It may also be possible that youa re allergic to accutane

Definitely speak to your physician about what you are experiencing -- the sooner the better!

Yeah, I left a message asking him to call me tomorrow. I'm inclined to go with 10 mg EOD or even every third day. If the side effects subside, I'll stick with that. It should still be enough to reduce sebum and clear the mild acne. If that dose produces side effects, I'll stop entirely.

Weird, the brain fog. I have taken it many times throughout the ages at low doses and then megadoses! Never had a brain fog, only thinner skin and dry eyes and nose to complain about.
At the low doses, no side effects at all.
I would certainly ask as that is not even one I had heard about.
Good luck and hope it all works out for you.

I have semi dark circles. They didn't change with accutane. I had them before accutane too.

I feel as though they appear less noticeable because my skin is brighter and clear (acne free) so therefore my overall complexion has improved.

Accutane is a chemotherapy drug with 5,000 pending lawsuits. Google for more info, a lot of people myself included feel Accutane causes permanent damage to the body. You really need to ask yourself if you need chemo. If not, don't take Accutane.
