I use Cetaphil and it contains and ingredient that many cleansers do (can't find the name of it right now). My peel instructions suggest a non soap cleanser... Can someone recommend a good one that I can get at the drugstore?
Thanks everyone ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I think you're referring to sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate? I don't think there are many options out there for drugstore products. You can look into some natural lines that EDS sells |

Well I'm sure you can find something if you look hard enough, but bigger brands like Clean and Clear and Neutrogena most likely contain that ingredient =/ |

SLS is the most damaging ingredient out there. It destroys the skin barrier. It is what makes the foam in skin care products. Google it and you will see what it is. SLES is not as bad but still destroys the skin barrier. The best cleanser out there is the Rose hip cleanser from dianayvonne.com. It is low ph so it is non irritating and no soaps just a castile oil cleanser. It is the only thing i would ever put on my face. Greg |

You might take a look at the cleansers from the "Yes to" line of products. I tried one of them - I think it was carrots - and liked it ok. |

My dermatologist recommended CeraVe and I love it. Not drying. You could probably find a lot of cleansers at Whole Foods. |

SheaTerra Organics.com has a nice selection of cleansers. There is a 30% off coupon right now for the month of May.
The products are natural - no parabens, SLS free - very simple, pure ingredients. They have cleansers for all skin types. Highly recommend. And the packaging is pleasant to look at. |

Oh yeah, forgot about that one! Yeah, CeraVe is great. It's better than Cetaphil because it actually has some beneficial ingredients rather than just the basic stuff |

What is "castile oil"? I cannot find that ingredient on any ingredient database and that's certainly not an INCI name. I suspect it's actually a weak castile soap, disguised! |

It was bad wording on my part. This cleanser only uses Rose Hip oil to clean with. Castille refers to the method of making soap with Olive oil generally. Greg |

I was intrigued by this product and took a look at their website.
The ingredients they have listed: Purified Water, Olive Oil Castile, Vegetable Glycerine, Rose hip See Oil, Essential oils, Seaweed Extract.
Note "olive oil castile"... that is soap. So the product, strictly speaking may not be classified as a "soap" but it certainly contains a soap. The cleansing would come from a combination of the glycerin, olive oil castile and rose hip seed oil. |

Yes you are correct. I don't think that the glycerin has anything to do with cleaning. The rose hip is used for cleaning and also to lower the ph. Greg |

Apart from being an excellent humectant, glycerin is also a very effective degreaser. |

I stopped using cleansers with SLS on my face when I was 15 and I think it was a great idea. I'm now 29 and have no wrinkles yet, including no crows feet around my eyes.
My current favourite non detergent cleansers are:
1) PSF Green Tea Cleansing Milk (which you can buy right here at essential day spa) -- this is a fantastic cleanser, and the one I'm currently using! It is not bad (though not fantastic either) at taking off makeup, and doesn't break me out or dry out my skin. It especially works well if you use it with a microfiber exfoliating cloth (that's what I do).
My only issues with it is that it's a bit expensive and I go through a bottle in about 6 months, which is fast for me.
Also, if I do happen to be wearing a lot of makeup, I'll use some oil such as jojoba on my face first to dissolve the makeup, wipe the oil off, and then use the cleanser. That works really well.
2) Devita Aloe Vera Moisture Cleanser -- this is also a great cleanser. It might be better for you in comparison to the PSF one if you have oilier skin. It does have a fairly strong smell though, so if that bothers you, then this may not be for you.
Note that both of these cleansers do not foam up because they don't have SLS.
Also, PSF makes other cleansers without detergents that might be worth trying -- I haven't tried them though, because I like the Green Tea one and stick to that. |

Also, as Greg said above, it's important to use a non-detergent cleanser that is also ph balanced.
Both of the ones I recced above fit the bill. |

I make my own, a knockoff of Dr H's Cleaning Cream. Works great, never irritates my skin. |

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm still on the hunt for a cleanser but may break down and just order one online.
CeraVe has an ingredient in it that sounds like a derivative of SLS. I had my hands on the bottle yesterday.
Neutrogena has a "naturals" cleanser with no parabens, phosphates, etc but has SLS in it.
I appreciate all your feedback! I may go for the Rose Hip one or order the Green Tea one though makeupartistschoice dot com |

If you're talking about the Green Tea/Pomegranate Cleanser at makeupartistschoice dot com, I just checked it out and it has ammonium lauryl sulfate in it which is a detergent! I wouldn't recommend it. |

Try using rhassoul clay. I really cleans skin. There are lots of varieties. I use it on my kids who have eczema. |
