I noticed an increase this new year with those eReaders on the train and I am so amazed how thin and clear it look.
How many of you got one for Christmas? How many of you had one for awhile?
Looking into it, it appears that the price to buy a novel is a lot cheaper and almost too good to be true.
In the long run, is it really worth getting eReader?
On the market, there is a selection and which do you think is the best on the market? Why?
Do you find yourself reading more? |

Hi Skincare. I bought the Nook when it first came out. I wanted one because of the easy portability for trips and because I was running out of space in my house to store more books. Books that I like I keep forever because I reread them many times. I was skeptical that I would like an ereader but I loved it from the first book I read. My sister got a Kindle for Christmas and it is quite a bit thinner and lighter than my Nook. I liked it for that reason. It would fit better in my purse than the Nook does.
Having said that, however, I have to tell you that I have an iPad and it's the best of all. I downloaded both the Kindle and Nook apps and also have Apple's iBook app. It's nice to be able to have a choice of bookstores for ebooks so I'm not locked into the price of only one. Also, I'll be taking the iPad on trips anyway so I don't have to carry an extra ereader along. I understand that Kindle now has a loan feature too, so I'm excited that my friends and I will be able to share books (of course I don't know if you're limited to one loan as you are on the Nook). |

I have had the 2nd generation Kindle for 2 year--just upgraded to the lastest version. (My kids both have 2nd generation). I also have Kindle for Ipad. I love my Kindle and take it everywhere with me! Best purchase I ever made. My sister has the Nook and loves it. I won't buy bound books anymore. |

I have a Cruz Velocity and I really like it. I have Downloaded Kindle, Nook, and of course Cruz is borders books. I can Get Email, Play games connect to wi-fi, download music, u-tube videos, facebook, just about anything a computer can do for about 129$. The draw back is the screen is Not very sensitive so I must use a stylus, actually I use a rubber tipped eyeshadow wand! My dear friend has a Pandigital ereader and it is almost identical to mine. Her displays a different and she can group all of her books into a central library (I think). On mine Kindle keeps track of amazon books, nook...barnes&noble, cruz...Borders, yadda, yadda, yadda. |

iPad seems to be the best one to get because it can multitask, but if you already have a laptop, what use do you have with iPad? And, if you have iPhone, that has a mini computer (internet) also. |

I don't have an iPhone and my laptop is 20 years old, so that isn't an issue for me, Skincare. But I see your point for someone more up-to-date than I am. |

I have an Ipad and I am not crazy about it in general--although, my kids love it for the games apps. I don't prefer it as a reader because it is bigger and clunkier than the Kindle. I like being able to toss my Kindle in my purse and take it everywhere. The Ipad is too big for that. It is a good multi-tasker but I am not looking for a one size fits all. |

I love to read and would definitely love one of the Book Readers. I was hoping to get one off Santa for Christmas, however I must have been bad this year. lol
I'm still tossing up which model is best and can't decide. Decisions, decisions. I have thousands of books ranging from novels to cook books and think this would be ideal for me, as I love to read when I'm on the train etc and find this would be ideal just to have in my bag. Just a question to those of you who have one, can you only just read books on them, or do they have other functions??? Thanks. |

I think I am leaning for Kindle, because I've read reviews and it stated that the pages turn a lot faster and you can buy books at any WiFi area or if you are out of range, you can still get it because it has 3G.....but I don't know what 3G is anyway! lol
Can anyone tell me if I decide to get one and I wanted to get books in a different language, is that possible? Or, do I have to buy Kindle that is set up for that particular language? |

Skincare I was doing some more research in my quest to work out which one I want to buy and came across this article that may answer your question.
I haven't read it all and there is other links so it may have what your looking for.
I tried to add the link, however I'm a new member so it won't allow me to. I can message it to you if you like. |

Hi Divine Diva. Can you message me the article? My mom is looking into getting a reader - I think she's leaning towards the Kindle - and I'd like to do some more research for her.
Thanks! |

I've just bought a Kindle - and I love it. I've been lusting after one of these for a while because I love gadgets, but I haven't been reading allot lately (I waste far too much time here) so I was worried that it might be a waste of money. However, it has got me back reading again - which is a good thing.
I did my research and chose the Kindle because it's rated the best by most reviewers. Some of the other ereaders that I looked at "blinked" quite allot when the page was turned. The Kindle was about the least irritating in that regard. It is also supposed to have the best screen to read in bright conditions.
The reason that I love it is because it is so light and thin - I just pop it in my bag and it takes up no space. I love to take Lulu for a walk in the afternoon and have a cup of coffee and read a magazine - well now I read my Kindle. It's great for reading out of doors because you don't have to deal with pages blowing around in the wind. And it always keeps your place for you so you can resume reading the minute you turn it on.
The latest version of Kindle comes with an "experimental" web browser. So you can connect to the internet and read emails etc. This feature isn't exactly user friendly, still it's there if you want it. I would imagine that an Apple iPad would be a much more multi-functional fun tool - but then you're reading from a computer screen. The Kindle is exactly like reading a page from a book - so, in darkness, you need a book light.
The best thing I like about the Kindle, is choosing the books to read. I can spend ages on the computer putting the books that I like on my Amazon "wishlist" - then, when I decide to buy, I press a button and one minute later the book is on my Kindle. I used to get so bamboozled in the bookshops trying to choose something. I also tend to like classic English literature and most of these types of books are either free or very cheap.
The Kindle gets a big thumbs up from me! |

I got Kindle also. I have to agree that the page turning is very fast and to download books, at least for me, is less then a minute. The view of the screen is really nice and I don't suffer any headache or get watery eyes from looking at the screen. Having this device is so lightweight and doesn't add too much weight in my bag.
I've played a lot with Kindle that I have burn the battery a lot faster then usual. Once I am used to this new electronic toy, I don't see myself using up so much battery. To charge up the battery is really fast. When it is completely empty, it took less then four hours to charge.
Someone came up to me and told me that they have Kobo and don't like the delay of the page turner. I am so glad that this is not an issue for me with Kindle. |

Very nearly bought an ebook reader but felt they were far too expensive. The decision has now been made for me now I have my new mobile phone!
It's got a 4 1/2" screen (admittedly larger would be better, but EZpdfreader makes it a breeze, and the pages automatically sync to the screen). I've put tons of .pdfs on it.
I like the idea of having one gadget that does everything: camera, mp3 player (always put a huge memory card on my phone), and now video, apps, browsing, email and, of course, phone
My phone is an HTC Desire HD, though I don't think HTC are that well known in the US! |

Ohh... I'm so jealous! I have a Kindle and the iPad and I just cannot get used to reading from the screen
When I use it I'm always missing the paper... I enjoy my reading experience a lot more with paper.
Even when I read scientific literature I have to print the articles
I do try to read more on Kindle and on the computer (esp. since it involves saving paper!) but it's hard. |

We are a 4 Kindle family---obviously big readers and even bigger fans of the device. I have had mine for more than 2 years. (I just upgraded to the 3G.) FYI--You will not need to charge your battery as often if you only turn your wireless on when you are downloading. It makes a huge difference on battery life. |

I do have a compliant with Amazon. Not all books & magazines are available for Canadians
I swear, Americans must hate Canadians. The cost of shipping is so high and now can't get all the books & magazines |

Have you tried a shipping company such aswww.shipito.com I think they have a yearly subscription for magazine postage. |

Thank you, I will have to take a closer look at it tonight or this weekend. Do you use their service? Are you happy with them? Do you find that there are not spending too much more due to shipping charges? |

No, I haven't used this service and I haven't checked it out properly. But I was having a look at their website the other night and noticed that they have a deal where you can get a year's worth of magazines delivered. It looked reasonable. But I haven't checked it out thoroughly. |

I think you should just get the iPad.. even though it's not technically an e-reader, it's still pretty amazing with reading books, if not better. Plus, there's all the other things you can do with it too |
