Hi, I recently increased my Retin A strength to 0.05%. I was looking through previous threads on frequency of usage. I always thought you needed to use it every night for the greatest benefits. I found posts which said after a year you can cut back to three times a week. I've used 0.025% for a year and a half every night. Now that I've increased the strength, does that mean I should restart the year countdown clock again and use it every night? Or does this only apply to someone who is just starting out using Retin A and not to someone who is just changing strengths? I know this might be a strange question, but I'm really curious. Thanks for any advice. |

Actually its been suggested that you can gain the same benefits as using it nightly by using it every other night. Reasons being is that the every night simply uses up more product, whereas the every other night enables the skin time to use the Retin A.
If you have just moved on to the 0.05% then you need to allow the clock to start again. Only time you ever move to the 2x or 3x a week is if you have achieved your goals with the product. Interestingly enough my derm used to tell me that if I was to try to use it only 2 or 3x a week I'd notice a big difference in my results and I have to say that when I did it was true and I immediately went back to using it every other night.
0.05% is a great strength though to use. I have at times gone up, but the studies all suggest that 0.05% is better than the 0.01% simply because the body can only absorb so much Retin A.
Hope that helps!

Yeah, like the above poster said, it is best to start all over again. However, you can still use it every night but as soon as you see any irritation, you need to stop and start slowly again. |

I've only been using my Refissa .05 on Mon/Wed/Fri for three weeks and have noticed lots of peeling. Last night I got out my tweezers and was peeling sheets of skin off my chin. Reminded me of my childhood sunburns when my sister and I would peel our skin off, trying to see who got the biggest piece.
My derm gave me a Renova Rx for .025 so I might be better off as I am in no hurry to see results. "Slow and steady wins the race." |

TheresaMary, thanks for the great response! The prospect of usin Retin A every other night and still getting results sounds good to me. Although, I would feel strange not using it every night since I have been doing this for a while. It would solve my problem of fitting Vitamin C serum back into the rotation. I haven't been using it due to my CP usage during the day. Thanks everyone. |
