Ok I've been confused about this for awhile and hope someone can clarify this for me. I use lactic acid (ph 2.0) I get from an online website. I use 65% lactic acid for about 3-4 minutes once a week. I recently purchased glycolic acid (ph 1.9) at 60% strength and so far I've only used that one for 3 min but you can use it up to 10 min.
My questions are....
1. How can a regular consumer purchase these products without a license (not that I'm complaining)
2. Why do most websites I read say that at these strengths, they should be administered by a doctors office?
3. Are these at home strengths measured in the same ways that doctors/dermatologists offices and just as strong?
It seems weird to me that when you get a doctors peel that it seems like it would be stronger but the site I get the products from also sell to spas/salons.
Ok so I hope someone can clear this up.
PS I know that PH matters so maybe that has something to do with it? Is lower ph better or is 3-4 the ideal range, etc??
Thanks!! |

1. I believe you can buy them off websites like makeupartistschoice.com. However, they only go up to a certain strength.
2. It should be administered by a dermatologist because these strengths can potentially burn the skin so it's better if it's done professionally. You might also risk over-exfoliation
3. Yes, they are usually the same strength
Lower pH isn't necessarily better, but the ideal pH is usually around 3-4. |

ok appreciate the clarification. Why do I hear people talking about 1, 2 and 3% strengths, these seem tame enough for a baby... just askin
Oh just thought about it...maybe those are good for daily use? |

Yeah they are used for daily usage. 2% BHA is already considered "maximum" and can actualyl be quite irritating |
