I am interested in beginning peels. Do any of you have a peel routine? Thanks! |

Its not necessary. I think its just something gimmicky for people to spend their money on. |

I think they can be helpful if you have some minor issues that need to be addressed. I've done peels in the past but haven't in a long time. I feel the benefit is rather minimal, for me anyway. |

Sloughing off the dead skin cells is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your skin. A series of peels will refine pores and help with blackheads and pigmentation. They will also help your topicals to penetrate more effectively. How can that be gimmicky?
Obviously, results will be dependant on how aggressive the peel is. For skin resurfacing with a deep peel you need to see a doctor. But it is very easy to do a non-invasive peel at home if you follow the instructions carefully.
I do a Lactic Acid peel every month.

BTW, you may have seen all the "dreadful" photos of Cindy Lauper in the news lately. Apparently she had a fairly aggressive peel done - but she had the last laugh - she looked great at the Grammys! |

I agree Keliu, as I have been doing non-invasive peels at home after having them done professionally for about a year, however these were becoming a little costly. So I now do a light TCA Peel and incorporate this with an Infusion Peel and my skin looks amazing.
You just need to be cautious and don't try and over do it, as this is when you can make your skin inflamed and it can become quite nasty. I perform mine every 6-8 weeks and find this very beneficial in keeping my skin soft and smooth. Also combined with my Retinol and other great products I have found my skin looks better now than it did 5-10 years ago.
Yes I did see Cindy at the Grammys and I must say she looked like one hot chicky. |

I started last year with 55% Lactic Acid then did a few 15% TCA peels. The TCA has about twice as much downtime. LA is a few days of flaky skin but no real peeling as in TCA.
Overall I'm happy and plan to continue LA peels until summer then next fall 1-2 18% TCA peels. |

Can we do the peel routine at home without the doctor’s instructions? I heard it has certain risks. |

If you go to http://www.makeupartistschoice.com/catalog/At_Home_Chemical_Peels-10-1.html you can find out all about the peels that are available. They come in a kit with all necessary instructions. Start off with one of the lower percentage peels, follow the instructions faithfully and you will be fine. |

Divine Diva,
What percent TCA peel do you currently use? I just ordered 12.5% from makeupartistschoice as I am a newbie when it comes to peels.
I hope this will be strong enough to begin with! |

I have found it difficult to incorporate peels in to my regular routine. I got the NCN skincare pumpkin peel and Nanci said that I should omit using retin A a week prior and a week after doing the peel. This means that if I did the peel once a month I would have just 2 wks of using retna A a month. How do other people manage to do peels regularly, does it disrupt your use of other things?
Also regarding a deep peel that a doctor would do - I think there are diff levels still but there is one extreme one that goes to the lowest level and you basically have a bloody face for about 4 days after and the skin grows back from that low level. I am just thinking, if one were to have this done wouldn't that just wipe all your skin of and give you a clean slate? I am just thinking from the perspective of "Am I wasting money and time buying all these topical things to slather on when if I had one of those deep peels all that stuff does would not matter anyway?" If anybody has any ideas on this would be appreciated. |

Wow a bleeding face? Is that really necessary? Seems pretty damaging to the capillaries |

I do a mandelic acid 25% peel weekly. It makes my skin look more refined and there is zero down time. I do get a small amount of peeling / flaking but nothing significant that additional moisturizing and my Clarisonic won't take care off. Love love love it. |

I also do Mandelic acid peels weekly and they do make my skin look cleaner and radiant. I also use RA, so have to stop that for 2 days before and after. Minimal peeling and really nice peel with no downtime. |
