Hi Everyone,
I've been reading on these forums for a while now and have tried many things related to my condition, but none seem to work well :(. My problem is: I have very enlarged pores, extremely oily skin (like 5 minutes after I wash my face, my face is covered in oil!), blackheads/whiteheads, extremely congested skin with little bumps all over (especially a lot on my forehead and jawline)lot of previous acne marks/hyperpigmentation, some chicken pox scars, blemishes, and a few new pimples almost every week. Btw, I'm 26. I've tried OCM as well, made my skin more oily :(. *sigh*. I'm currently using Retin A 0.025% (Ziana Gel), but no major changes, have been using it since almost 6 months. As a facewash, I'm using Clean and Clear 3-in-1, it has 2% Salicylic Acid in it, and for moisturizer, I'm using Cetaphil with SPF30. And if it makes any difference, my foundation is sometimes Neutragena with Salicylic Acid one or sometimes Dior. I know there are a lot of experienced and knowledgeable people on this forum, can someone please tell me what should I use on a daily basis to tackle these problems? I'll really appreciate your help! :) |

I had same problem.
I would suggest you start a higher % retina gel or micro Gel.
change your diet and add green juice morning and night.
If you can handle a lemon/maple body cleanser (beyonce diet) that would help a lot do it for 3 days 5 days or 7 days
then keep up with the green juice twice a day.
u could also buy mego7 to cleanse your intestines or look for some spa that does colon cleanse.
again you have to change your diet if you want to see results.
If all fails then get some accutane |

I second a stronger tretinoin, and maybe get your hormones checked? Too much testosterone or progesterone can cause hyper-oiliness. Diet certainly can affect hormones and hence oiliness--the standard things to try cutting out are dairy, sugars, and wheat.
If you'd like a more matte sunscreen, some possibilities are Coppertone Sensitive Skin faces SPF 50 (with ~14% zinc oxide) and Bioderma Photoderm AKN Mat SPF 30. And powder foundation may be better for you than liquid or definitely cream. Another thing is that a leave-on salicylic acid product is more effective against oil than a wash--things to try are Paula's Choice and Neutrogena acne stress control 3-in-1 hydrating treatment, assuming of course, you're not getting sensitivity from the tretinoin. |

Thanks for your replies everyone. Actually, I was on that Lemonade/Master Cleanse diet, lost a little bit of weight(mostly water weight) but nothing happened to my skin unfortunately. Right now I'm on the Dukan diet, I don't eat any fried foods and I'm eating healthy, just protein and veggies. My skin has been just as before even after the dukan diet, not saying that it was supposed to help with my skin or anything, but it didn't make it worse either. I haven't tried Paula's choice yet, but I've done Lactic Acid peels and Salicylic Acid peels in the past, as a matter of fact I do Lactic Acid peels bi-weekly, my skin is better for a couple of days and back to the nightmare again! I'm not sensitive to the 0.025% Retin-A, but let's see after trying the higher strength what happens. What do you guys say about Derma-Rolling? That's one thing I haven't tried yet, even after I've tried 12-15 treatments of Microdermabrasion and 6 treatments of Lasers!! I'm just scared of bleeding! :( |

You seem to have the same skin as I do, where most of my large pores are on my nose. I also have blackheads around my nose as well and pimples here and there. Paula's choice products has certainly helped clear my complexion, but since I have gone to vacation in Hong Kong, my skin has become more oily for some reason. I think it might be due to the humidity. However, Paula Begoun does mention that pore size cannot be changed, and if it can, it is very difficult to do so. In any case, your cleansers containing salicylic acid really isn't doing anything for you. It doesn't have enough time to penetrate into your skin to do an effective job, so you should try getting a cream/lotion/toner that contains that ingredeitn instead |

I understand that dermarolling over active acne is a bad idea--spreads the bacteria.
If peels helped you, even temporarily, then I think a lower strength daily acid would give you the most benefit. Paula's Choice makes it easy to get samples. |

Hi SkinifyMe, have you tried using skincare products that has less chemicals in them? I used to be very very oily, in fact i did a lot of research on the internet about oily skin. A lot of articles talked about chemicals in skincare and how they can be absorbed into our bloodstream, causing hormonal changes, and how it relates to oiliness, acne and blocked pores etc. Heaps of skincare companies add chemicals to pro-long shelf life or to lower costs of their products. All they care about is profit!
One day i took the plunge and turned my skincare routine completely over. Im now using ONLY natural skincare products and im very careful with what i put on my face. My skin is still oily but i'd say it has improved at least 70%. It feels a lot more calmer. I used to be covered in oil in less than 1 hr after washing my face! Now i wake up at 8am and wont feel oily until at least 11am. That is a HUGE improvement for me! Also you MUST take care of your diet, cut down on sugary and oily foods. More exercise (not strenuous ones as it can aggravate the oil glands), maybe try yoga, thats what im doing now. Also cut down on diary foods if you can, theres been many studies that shows a linkage between milk products and acne. Anyway i could go on, because there are lots you can do to control your oil production. Google is your friend!
My skincare routine-
Cleanser- Clove's Ylang Ylang bar
Toner- Aesop's Parsley seed toner
Moisturiser- Clove's Juniperberry gel
Mask- Dr Hauschka's clay mask
Scrub- Korres' pomegranate scrub
Dont forget to eat properly and exercise!
