hi,
i've been reading about the L'oreal UV Perfect sunscreen 50spf.
I've read it contain Tinosorb, which is great for uva rays. And that the item in the US is different than the Iten purchased abroad.
I went to Ebay (which is where people suggest I purchase this), I looked at 4 items from different sellers. They were from Thailand and HongKong,
I saw NO mention of Tinosorb in the ingredient lists????...where are people getting this? Want to make sure I'm getting the right item, or might as well get it in the States.....

Perhaps this might help...
Tinosorb S = Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyltriazine
Tinosorb M = Methylene Bis Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol |

Ah i misread... the Loreal UV Perfect does not use Tinosorbs. It uses Mexoryls.
Mexoryl SX = Terephtalilydene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid = Ecamsule
Mexoryl XL = Drometrizole Trisiloxane
For Tinosorbs, you would want to look at Avene, Bioderma, Uriage and RoC. |

I do believe the issue is that Tinosorb has yet to be approved for sale to the US along with a few other chemical sunscreen ingredients? I may be mistaken but I thought that's why some companies that sell both in the US and overseas have different formulas for each?  |

That's what I've heard...."be sure to get the european version"....Ive heard the same about the Anthelios sunscreens, "Get the European version"
This sunscreen stuff is complicated enough!...now we have to take note of what part of the world we're buying from for the ingredients!!...crazy..
The U.S. is a bit slow approving this stuff.... |

YEP! The FDA does take it's time to check into all the things under it's jurisdiction, and we still have things/drugs that make it to market here that later are yanked due to dangerous side effects and adverse reactions. The whole thing makes it hard to know what is safe or not?!? |

The problem is that there is no incentive for a company to go through the US testing needed for FDA approval, since the patents are held by European companies and a US company using them would have to pay license fees. So until the TInosorbs are in the public domain, they probably won't be put through the FDA process.
But the EU safety process is at least as rigorous as that of the FDA, so no worries about safety if you use Euro sunscreens. |

I think there are problems with sellers getting the European sunscreens into the US because the FDA hasn't approved them? I am not worried about their safety but it seems to be an issue having them shipped here? |

I am in Asia and can verify that the Loreal UV Perfect does not use the Tinosorbs. It uses the Mexoryls.

The thing with the Anthelios sunscreens, they use both Mexoryls in the euro versions. FDA has approved only Mexoryl SX (and not Mexoryl XL), so the version that is approved for sale in the US is not the same formulation. The 2 Mexoryls have a synergistic effect in protection when they are used together. |

I wasn't saying it was a given, just throwing an idea out there as it seems that at least with some brands people have had a hard time getting their hands on what they are looking for. |

No, it does use tinosorbs (bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine). It certainly does use Mexoryl SL and XL, but it also uses octinoxate and titanium dioxide (which it didn't have octinoxate myself). Here is a full list of ingredients:
