Over the past few years i've been noticing that my stomach gets pretty sensitive to food (especially after dinner). I suffer from bloating and bad gas Things i used to love when i was a teenager like spicy foods, my stomach can no longer tolerate. I am not allergic to any foods and eat very healthy (no fast foods, barely any junk food, organic etc.) I consider myself very healthy, excercising and staying fit. I recently went to the doctor about this embarrassing topic of bad gas and she said that I might not be able to tolerate gluten. Supposedly it's very common for people to not handle gluten. Anyone out there on a gluten-free diet? I'm going for some blood tests to see if i have "celiac disease" (a genetic disease that affects the small intestine if you consume gluten) |

Hi BCgirl:
Funny you should ask this question shortly after I just finished talking about being on a gluten-free diet.
I was on one for about ten years. I learned to do without bread, cakes. Initially it felt as if I was told to cut out all food, but over time, I started to find that there is a whole world out there of gluten-free foods.
While I no longer have the problems that led to my changing my diet (candidiasis), I still try not to overindulge on wheat products, only because I know the good it does not to have gluten. I mean, so many people feel better without it, so why do I need it, yanno?
It's interesting you mention not being allergic to any foods. I think with allergies, the reaction is immediate. What you're having is a sensitivity to gluten. That develops gradually over time. And even if you don't have celiac disease, you may still have problems with gluten. And sometimes you can go back to eating gluten, as happened to me. But you may love how you feel so much you won't want to go back.
Stores like Whole Foods, Wegman's have gluten-free foods that you can eat to help you wean yourself off the bad foods. So if it's hard to give up bread, cookies, get the gluten-free kind to make the transition easier; or just for that off chance you really crave one of the bad foods. Good luck! |

I recently cut out all wheat and am feeling very good! My stomach used to bloat and I had insane cravings for bread and cakes. Plus I felt fatigued all the time. If you google wheat belly, Dr. Davis (author of the book) has a great blog and facebook page. So many people have posted about their relief from symptoms giving up wheat. Good luck! |

YES, it's finally catching on!! I had a gluten free brownie for my birthday and got diarrhea the next week. I don't tolerate a lot of foods, wheat especially but also apparently some foods that are supposed to be "ok". An unprocessed diet is the only thing that really works for me.
I found some pretty interesting/spooky info last week about dairy. There's this book called Devil in the Milk that says there are two kinds of cows, A1 & A2. American & European cows are A1; this kind of milk is linked to diabetes, heart disease and mental illness.

I was shooting around in the dark for years trying to figure out if I was intolerant to any food and doing many many elimination diets.
Finally had my blood tested for immune reaction against foods and now I'm doing a GI tract healing diet with all the GI repair supplements etc.
My reactions were NOT GI symptoms rather they were systemic reactions making me feel sick and severe allergy symptoms (CFS).
I wish I had done this years ago. For me trying to figure it out by elimination alone didn't work. Turns out I have zero intolerance to gluten but highly intolerant to dairy and aged foods. So this diet is supposed to heal my GI tract in 60-90 days (yippee over the holidays no less).
Yesterday I ate beans and meat, amaranth and coconut milk and almonds, green juice and a grapefruit. It's realllllllly boring and I'm trying to deal with it for just a few months.
I'm going to see the nutritionist today to get more food choices and next week getting another test to see exactly what's the immune reaction to. |
