This past weekend, I went to a 2 day music festival in a mountainous area. I applied Burnout physical sunscreen the first day, a cloudy day. I noticed no frecking later in the day (freckling, followed by sunburn are my signs of overexposure).
Day 2 was much sunnier. I was upset to see that there was much less sunscreen left in the tube, but I applied the rest of it and crossed my fingers.
I only freckled and burned in areas where I had not put any S/S - and was protected from application from the day before! I was very happy to see that a physical sunscreen has good lasting power - even lasting into a second day (no showers at this location )
So bad news turned out to be good news.

Hi Sister Sweets,
There's a fairly recent thread that has been pulled up that Nimue started in regards to Burnout. I use the Clean and Clear because my skin's a little on the oily side.
And being "ocean friendly" there's hardly anything you can find wrong with it! |

Glad to know that Burnout has continued to live up to their reputation! |

I have never heard of Burnout! Thank you!! I need to try this. I recently found Dr. Denese sunscreen and love it, but it is just too pricey. I was willing to pay for it this summer as it is the best ss i have found so far with zinc (which i love the physical ss). I will try to find this and see! Thank you for the thread!! I'm learning so much about new products lately! I can't believe I stayed away from this forum for so long! |

I also use Burnout SS and like it, but think its a little tacky and you have to give more time for it to absorb before applying makeup. |

The tube is too small to use it as a body sunblock. |

Thanks so much for posting your experience! I'd really like to try this SS, but my skin is quite dry and I've heard it's much better on oily skin. Do you think it would do okay if I moisturized underneath? Also, I have a few questions if you don't mind Did you use the full 1/4th tsp on your face? Did you happen to notice if makeup application over it was easy? Thanks again! |

It doesn't dry out the skin, actually it's a little on oilier side. I always use moisturizer under it anyway. The makeup goes a easier if you let it sink in for a few minutes. |

I just noticed that Burnout is not listed for 2011 by the EWG as a best sunscreen.
I wonder what happened. Our other favs are still there.

What do you use for the body? I
guess Devita is more cost effective but it has so little water resistance that if i know i will be sweating i use burnout anyway... I definitely agree that cost is important but I dont know of alternatives that are a lot better. |

I was so excited about the Devita body until I found out it has retinol....a definite no no
I'm using Burnout Clean & Clear on my body too but would like to know if they are any other more affordable options in the physical sunscreen category...

I also like the Burnout sunscreens. I use the clean and clear version during warmer days when I know that I will sweat a bit more, it's more water resistant, the kid's version on other days. With both sunscreen I don't moisturizer underneath. I use Devita during winter as it's more moisturizing. I don't know why, but I don't worry too much about my body. I do however, make a conscious effort to avoid the sun as much as I can.
I recently brought a small tube of UV Natural which has 24.8% zinc oxide to try. I wonder if anyone has tried this before and how does it compare to Burnout? |

While it's nice to think that the UV Natural sunscreen has 24.8% zinc oxide, don't use it. It will break you out like no other. It's far too thick and sticky. Unless you have the driest skin on the planet and never break out, it will leave your face covered in acne.
It really frustrates me that the higher the % of zinc, the more oily the sunscreens are. Why can't the companies make oil-free sunscreens that don't break me out and that don't have oil?
I have yet to try the Burnout sunscreens. I fear that they are going to be too oily and will break me out. Any encouraging thoughts? |

SkiTahoe... First I love your name... I haven't been in YEARS!
I just used the burnout on my face for the first time. I don't think it's very oily. I'll have to use several more times before saying I think so FOR SURE! It does have a slickness to it. But seems to absorb nicely... You don't look slicked!

Thanks ClaudiaFE! I love my name too. Lake Tahoe is one of the most gorgeous places I've been if not THE most beautiful place I've ever been too! You're the only one who's gotten it!
I don't like the slick feeling of sunscreen. Let me know what you think of Burnout after a few weeks and then I'll make a decision. I myself need a few weeks, so the sunscreen can "marinate" on my face and then I'll be able to tell if I like it or not and if it's oily on a long term basis. |

I'm the only skeptic on most boards about zinc. Will not be spending much if any time outdoors, just can't believe zinc really works even though I've read it is broadspectrum, photostable, etc. |
