| Ok...I mentioned (on an unrelated post) that I am a 12 year veteran of shaving my face. My dermatologist highly recommended this practice, but I thought it was ABSURD...so years passed before I broke down and ran a razor across my face. I regret terribly, that I waited until I was 42 to start doing this, when he suggested years before. Now all my girlfriends do it too and love it. I do not recommend it if you have a hairy face, because the hair will grow in with a blunt tip and feel stiffer, but it WILL NOT MAKE YOUR HAIR GROW!!--or make hair grow courser. It WILL make your skin look beautiful, and makeup goes on so smooth. SO....I know I will endure some ridicule or disbelief, just as I felt when it was first suggested to me....but I'm interested in seeing how many ladies will own up to this facing S-A-V-I-N-G practice. |

| Do you find you have to do it often though? I use a cream on my upper lip but that's it. Actual shaving sounds scary. |

I do not, because I do have facial hair and do not want the harsh stubs.
I did when I went for electrolysis to Lucy Peters in NYC, they require to do it a week before the session. You are correct, that it does not stimulate new hair growth, just forces the hair you already have to be in a different growing stage, so they can be killed by electrolysis. |

Closet door opens....
I have a little in the sideburn area. Gosh darn Italian side! Although, electrolysis was one of the best decisions I ever made for my upper lip, chin and even my eyebrows!! |

| I shave my arms... My family would think that's crazy, I am ashamed of that for some reason. My boyfriend just thinks my arms are "really soft" lol. I know a lot of people believe that the hair grows back thick if you shave, I believe that is a myth and biologically impossible, but has anybody noticed that? Or, does anybody, despite science, believe that? I would love to shave my uppser lip as I have very faint hairs that still make me insecure. |

I've been shaving my upper lip for 20 years instead of waxing. The hair never grew in darker or thicker. It's still very pale and so baby fine you almost can't see it, but I shave it once a month anyway. There, I confessed!  |

I do this too & have for years. I have super blonde hair on my arms but there's so much of it. It makes me batty when I haven't the time to get rid of it. In the summer it's a must - I won't walk out without 'clean' arms.
(*BTW - the hair does not grow back thicker or darker)

| i believe hair does grow back thicker when shaved, waxed, messed with any other way except electrolysis and maybe laser, at least it does for me. my sister and i are the same "hairiness" when we started out as kids--i shaved my legs and she didn't and now i have dark thick hair on my legs, while hers are light and grey. it's not just the stubble on my legs but it's the actual thickness of each hair. i know science says hair doesn't grow more or thicker, but personal experience tells me otherwise. on the otherhand, my friend who waxes her upper lip says her hairs get fainter each time, and observing her lip, i agree. so i guess it depends on the person... |

I don't shave any where on my face, but I do find the older I get the more I get the odd long, dark hair that sprouts out of no where.  Those I pluck as soon as I feel them. I can't STAND feeling them on my face. |

| I only tried wax strip on my upper lips before, and I got break out just from the wax. I never even tried cream, because I got so many red bumps just on my legs. Shaving sounds too rough. |

| I've been shaving my face for a few years now. My makeup looks so much better and the hair does not grow back thicker ect. I don't get stubble either because my facial hair is so fine. |

Yes,I shave my face whenever I think of it.It hasnt grown back thicker or anything, I cant stand the weird places,chin,etc where hair pops up. In the summer I do my arms too.
Nice exfoliation.And I use those little shavers for inside nose hairs.sorry...gross.
I always thought how much better mens complexions were,and usually they just shave.
It is so cheap too.

I have fine but dark hair on my upper lip. I use a curved nail scissor (I use one pair just for this) to trim the hair down to skin level. The curve helps me get close to skin without cutting it. I have also used the scissor on sideburns and other facial hair. It grows back soft and if I overlook trimming again for a while it's okay.
My SIL shaves her face and when I hug her, I get what feels like a couple of sharps in my cheek, so I have been hesitant to try shaving. |

I'm terrified to try this because I'm afraid my little blond hairs will turn dark and thick. (I always wax or Nair my upper lip, just in case there are dark hairs that I don't see.)
I have used clippers to shave my arm hair before. I actually liked the look, but I've never used a razor because I'm afraid it'll look weird. |

I am Asian and have WAY too much facial hair. I actually go for threading to get rid of it (I react badly to wax and don't have the money to go for Laser treatments). Sometimes if I'm really pressed for time and haven't had the chance to go for threading, I'll shave it off, but that's rare. |

| I do it occasionally. I've noticed makeup does go on better after shaving. The person that mentioned to me that she did it, was a few years older than me, but didn't look it. She said when men shave, the razor exfoliates their skin and thats one of the reasons they don't seem to age as fast as women. It made sense to me! |

Hi Mountain girl - great post!  It seems that there are a few members who shave because they have unwanted facial hair....Does unwanted facial hair have anything to do with your decision to use a razor or were you motivated by your dermatologist for reasons that have nothing to do with hair removal? The thought of running a razor across my skin when I don't have an issue with facial hair jolts me a bit - but I must admit that your post intrigues me!

Me too. My parents are pretty hairless on their arms and legs but I'm the odd one. Body hair must be a recessive trait in the family.
