I was just given a tip for replenishing your hair especially if you are losing it due to hormones during menopause.

(1) Take organic cold press Primrose Gel caps 1300 mg take 3 X day.

(2) Get organic cold press extra virgin Coconut oil. Rub into scalp every night (just scalp not hair)

I was told it somehow helps the hair follicle by balancing something that goes wrong with the follicle due to losing estrogen and leaving more testosterone.

You should start to see hair growth within 45 days. Worth a shot Wink

Anyone else heard of this?

Hi Tony1, have not heard of the treatment you mentioned but it is worth a try. I have heard of Paul Mitchell "Awapuh" moisturizing shampoo and "Awapuh" keratin cream rinse also Tresemme' body root boosting spray, don't know if they work but I read an article and it was given great reviews by people who have used them. I also read an article about "Aldactone" which is a high blood pressure medication but they found that it works in restoring hair growth, I would consult my primary care physician or dermatologist. Would like to know your results. Hope this is of some help.

Yeah, I've heard of rubbing various kinds of oils into the scalp, like jojoba and avocado. I also read somewhere that sea kelp bioferment can promote hair growth too

Thanks Tony1 for sharing. Smile

Personally, I just started trying Isomers Hair Reclaim topical serum for my thinning areas. I am hopeful for great results, as I really like Isomers as a skin care line.
I do take Black Current Seed Oil and Krill Oil daily, so maybe they will help too. I found that Evening Primrose Oil aggregated my perimenopausal symptoms. Sad

if you are in the US or Canada, you can get Rogaine over the counter, it works well to counteract the effect of testosterone on the hair follicles. No downside except for the cost. Aldactone, or spironolactone, will also work to inhibit some of the testosterone effect, but you need to check your potassium once in a while and your blood pressure.

I was going to mention Rogaine too, but I thought the topic creator was looking for natural methods. But yes, Rogaine is effective too, but you must also supplement its use with Ketoconazole shampoo to calm down the inflammation associated with hair loss as well. There's more information at hair loss forums such as http://www.hairlosstalk.com/

You can google for even more though

Good news for those who hesitate on Rogaine because of high price.

You can get now 3 months supply from Amazon's Subscribe & Save program for only $30 with free shipping!

Thanks for sharing!
For someone who will decide to use coconut oil. I'd like to recommend also to try out a herbal hot treatment with coconut oil - "Dabur Vatika Hair Oil". It's blend of coconut oil including henna, amla and lemon. You can find it online or at any
local Indian grocery. Your hair and scalp would love it. and it's smell nice to!))

Thanks for all the hair loss tips. Would like to know how long it takes to see results from the suggestions. Have been shy to try Rogain every time I have seen it, it has been for men Confused

That was exactly my problem. Some how i was thinking if i start using Rogaine - i admit having a problem.

But i am so glad i started a year ago. Thanks to EDS!!! It simple works. You can not skip the treatments. You must religiously do it twice a day.
But it does work. I can finally plan my hair style again instead of trying to hide the spots.

I saw first little hair after 2 months. Today they are 5 inch long.

By the way, using Rogaine doesn't mean you can't treat your hair with a good oil mask.

My hair has been failing out alot, but it has subsided since I started using lavender oil with rosemary oil mixed with jojoba oil. Not only has it lessened the hair from failing out...it has made it grow much faster. I use those oils on my scalp.

The conversion to DHT in the hair follice is what apparently causes follicular death. Poly 80 was once touted as a hair restorative and was pulled from the market at the same time Rogaine was being introduced. The theory is that the surfactant nature of poly80 gently goes down the hair shaft and lifts and removes the DHT buildup. Fact or Fiction?

I use both SKB and Poly 80 and it has rescued my hair line. The hair has grown back and I am quite happy with it.

SKB produced results on its own after about 3 months use...then added Poly80. Others have had success with that mix as well.

Is it possible to add oils to this as well?

I use Rogaine at 5% prescribed by a doctor. It does work but tends to get a build up and I have to wash my hair more often. It has regrown hair along my hair line but the hair is finer and fluffier.

DragoN ..what are SKB and Poly80? seems like we both have the receding hair line problem. How do you find the quality of the regrown hair?

Thoughts on Minoxidal at 5% prescription vs the over the counter strength which I think is 2%. I am post menopausal.

Does anyone use a special shampoo as well?

Thanks. Harriet

Do you mix the two together and apply to the scalp, DragoN? I use a mix of Poly80 and alcohol instead of shampoo. But it is so sticky and heavy I can't imagine to leave it on my head.

I don't believe you need to leave it on overnight. You can use it as a pre-shampoo treatment and leave it on for 30 minutes then wash off. Is there a reason why you're using alcohol? It's very irritating to the skin which could have some indirect effect on the hair follicles.

Actually it's not. I use a 50:50 mix of Poly80 and alcohol and add some tee tree oil to it. The Poly80 alone is too heavy and sticky and too difficult to spread. The 50:50 mix is great and I leave it on for about 30 Minutes and rinse off. No shampoo needed.

Does anyone have any knowledge about laser combs? I was reading some reviews on Amazon.com and of course they are mixed. They are pretty spendy too close to $400

SKB = Sea Kelp Ferment or Bioferment [ same thing]
Polysorbate 80= surfactant/ emulsifier

My mother's hair started to recede and thin about this age 40 , me..now...so...I decided to be proactive as I saw my hair line not looking so lovely anymore. First was SKB, that was amazing in itself. Then later added the Poly 80 SKB and castor oil + H20 treatment as a pre shampoo dealie. It worked. For me, and for a friend of mine. My hair line is full and the hair is thick and healthy. Had someone told me this a year ago...I'd have said they were full of it..but I don't now. That would make me full of it...but I have my hair line back and don't care what anyone thinks. My hair grows like a weed now, the new regrowth is proper hair.

You are using close to the original recipe that was pulled..but I think you will like it much better with SKB and Poly80 and H20 and castor oil...nicer on the hair and not as sticky. The SKB is a wonderful styler as well...I don't use styling products at all, only the SKB. My hair loves it, and my skin doesn't break out from it either. You'd need to shampoo after to get the Castor oil out, but the scalp feels clean and not stripped as you already know with the mix you are using.

I love this stuff...I am totally biased about it and totally admit that. It worked for me. It's worked for several others as well. That I know.

DragoN,

How often do you have to treat your hair with this mix to see first results and then to maintain it? Everyday, several times a week, ... ?

I like what Rogaine is doing for me, but i must apply it twice a day, everyday and, what drives me crazy, probably till the end of my life.
On the other hand, i don't have to wash it out - that's a plus.

I would love to find something with long lasting results. Even better if i can cut the amount of applications to few per week.

About 25 % each, First the SKB and poly 80 mix and it will look like glue, mix till homogenous, then add the castor oil...will be even thicker..elmer's glue...then add the water...and will be a white creamy sticky solution. I part my hair and apply at the roots, several times and gently rub it in, leave it about 1/2 hour and then wash it out.

2-3 times week...or so. It's not drying and is nice on the scalp.

I wash my hair every 2-3 days...and then apply my stuff. I use SKB and Sea emollient 30% and H20 70% as my leave in conditioner and styling agent. That's it. I don't use a conditioner, just a bar soap shampoo and ACV spritz in the shower to soothe the pH of the hair shaft. It's a pretty simple routine.

Basically every 2-3 days...that's it. I noticed the hair growth 2-3 months later and was thinking I was seeing things...but then it just became pretty obvious that it was not, there was lots of short hairs all filling in along the hair line. They are thick and dark now. It's proper hair. Like a hair should be. I used to be shy about brushing my hair back because it looked like a receding hair line...cuz it sort of was...but not anymore...now I slick my hair straight back and there is HAIR.

I know it has worked for others, it has worked for me, my GF also used Rogaine with no luck, but then started this crazy SKB and poly80 and her hair started to come in. We took pictures.

It's been about a year now of SKB...and I will certainly not be stopping. It's been the best thing for my hair to date.
