Hello Ladies and Gents,
I am one of those adults who have battled acne since being a teen. I have tried so many things (both OTC, Docs, and TV) and finally gave up on antibiotics years ago (hated the yeast infections).
Anywho, I just recently decided to give Retin A a try again after reading the reviews on here. But NOT for acne....for fine lines and ance scars. Because of this forum I finally have pretty healthy skin with minimal breakouts on the face!! I LOVE my face routine, but found it too hard to really do the same on my chest and back. The OCM really keeps my pores clean, but it is too time intensive for the rest of my body for daily use. So I continue to suffer flare ups on my back and chest (which sucks). It goes in waves sometimes. Some months are better than others, but there has always been some areas that make me uncomfortable to even think about wearing tank tops or back baring swimsuits.
I just couldn't take the discolored clothes from Proactive or yeast infections from Tetracycline anymore. I have accepted bacne as my lot even if I hate it.
Well, until I read about head and shoulders on this site that is!! So, I bought the Classic Clean H&S to try a couple months ago (I figured, What the heck"). I'm a happy to say it worked on me.
I put it on in the shower and left it on for 10 minutes. It wasn't hard as I would just put it on first and then do my regular routine. I noticed an improvement after about 3-4 days. And when I bought a natural back brush it got much better! BUT my skin started to get dry. By the second week my skin was really itchy, but so much clearer. I started to put on jojoba oil after my shower which did help since I'm not a teen anymore and my body just doesn't seem to create as much oil (except on my face).
I decided that the zinc really worked for me, but I was conflicted about the itchy back. I had to go see a dermotolgist anyway about califlower ears (another story) and I asked him about Head & Shoulders. Right off he knew it was because of the zinc. I told him about it drying my skin, but really working like no other cream has. He told me to keep using it if it worked for me. When I was leaving he came up to me and handed me a prescription for ZNP bar. He told me that if H&S worked, then to give this a try and see how it worked out. I see him in August and plan on getting an open refills for this stuff. IT WORKS GREAT!!!!!!
It is a blue bar of soap and I use it exactly like the H&S while in the shower. I don't get dried out and I have never been this clear. If I don't use it, then I start to break out again.
I love it because the flare ups I do get heal faster and the old marks really seem to be lightening up. I have worn a couple of tank tops this last month and I NEVER would have been able to do this before!! My skin will never model perfect, but I am so happy with this simple bar of soap. It is my HG for bacne!!!
It has is normally used for seboorheic dermatitis and dandruff (according to the box). It contains pyrithione zinc 2% (active). I don't know what Seborriheic Dermaticits is but it works on acne and thats enough for me!
Bottom line: I think Head and Shoulders will work better on Teen skin than on my old hinny, but if you had any success with H&S then you should give ZNP Bar a try. Ask you doctor after you try out Head and Shoulders CLassic Clean.
I have no idea if this is available over the counter, but I ran a search and its about $8.00 on the internet so it might be.
Next time I'm at Walmart I'll keep my eyes open. Good luck out there and thanks for refering me to H&S. If not for the poster who put it up originally, I would never have found this bar of soap.
Thank You!!
One happy camper |

Is this for the face too or just for the body? I struggle with acne on my face but have none on my body. If it works for the face I'll ask my dermo for a prescription for sure! |

Thank you so much for this review. I too suffer from acne on my back, chest and shoulders. Lately, I've had a number of flare ups and my skin looks awful (combination of acne and scars ). I've read about H&S several times before, but never heard of the ZNP bar. I think I'm ready to give S&H a try and then see if I can find ZNP bar.
Thanks again, R. |

Hi!
Sorry for the delay in relys. I just started night shift on the 15th and I'm still adjusting to this new schedule. In fact, I'm headed off to bed after this. Whoo-Hoo for sleep!!
Charis- It doesn't say. The box says to apply to affected areas. I suppose if you had seboorheic dermatitis on your face then it would be fine. (I still don't know what that is and I'm way to tired to goggle it). I think it would be a bit drying, but I think that is mostly because I just love my OCM and I really don't like soap on my face. That may sound weird, but I like the feel of my face after OCM. Anything else feels too 'stripped' to me.
Rubby-Good luck with H&S. I guess it doesn't work for eveyrone, but I noticed a difference. At first it was subtle until I added in a back brush. I normally just used a wash cloth-nothing special. If H&S works for you then definately give ZNP a try. GOOD Luck!!! |

HI deanne123, This might be a silly question, but what does OCM stand for? Also, I'm thinking about trying retin A. Is your straight retin a or a mix? The bar for bacne sounds perfect, and I think I'm going to ask for it. I also tried the head and shoulders but stopped because it made me itchy. This bar sounds better. What exactly is your rountine for your face. It sounds like it's really working for you.
Thanks,
Skinfanatic |

On this forum, OCM usually refers to Oil Cleansing Method. Do a search and you will find lots of info on it here. |

Hi!
Skinfanatic-OCM refers to Oil CLeansing Method. I didn't believe in it until I tried it myself!!
I use a 1:2 mixture of Castor Oil and EVOO. I don't use EO anymore (just cuz I'm lazy).
My routine is as follows:
A.M
OCM
DHCC in Shower
Toner--Thayers Witch Hazel (no Alcohol)
J&B CE around eyes and 11's
HH Vit C
Hylira Hydrating lotion -Contains HA so I use it everywhere.
DH Reju mask (everywhere (really nice under make up). I do this when I feel like it...which means more often as the more I use it the more I love it!!
Sunblock
Light Laayer CareKate's Pearl Cream to help with shine from sunblock
P.M
OCM
Toner
Retin A
I've noticed the OCM seems really effective since I started Retin A. Normally, I didn't get too much out nowadays, but lately?!! Wow! I guess the retin must be working, becuase I get lots of grainy bits now. It is rather addictive....and I haven't had to deal with dry skin. I'm on a low dose (.025) and I think the OCM helps combat the dryness.

Fantastic review, wish this had been on here a year ago!! I had horrific bacne, just showed up one day, and I went through a very painful time with retin-a (all the skin peeled off my back in red sheets but I didn't care, I was determined to have it GONE!). It did cure my acne permanently in about six weeks, as I no longer need to use it. Looks like you came to the same result with a much more pleasant method. |

re-posting for Sulfur-soap

My dermatologist recommended Sulfur Soap 10% by joesoef skin care, it treats Acne, Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Scabies, Blackheads, Body Acne, Whiteheads, Staph, Oily skin and much more. Sulfur soap 10% is being dispensed by dermatologist as a replacement soap for ZNP Soap that was discontinued by Stiefel Laboratories. There are people still seeking ZNP Soap, now they have a great option.
I use the soap twice a day, its important to use warm water and work soap into a rich lather. For best results Allow 60 seconds before rinsing off. Sulfur is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. All these properties are excellent for the skin. My severe acne has cleared in days. This soap has been around for 30 years...
I highly recommend Joesoef Skin Care Sulfur Soap 10% for Acne. Its only $7.99 online. I also like to use it along with the DDF Sulfur Mask about $45 at night 3 times a week, I feel my skin is responding to Sulfur then BP. Well I hope my miracle soap helps someone else too. |

I just found out about Dr. Joesoef's Sulfur soap from another source, and ordered 3 bars. I moved to an area that has very soft water, and I could not ever rinse off the soap, completely, either in the shower or at the sink. It drove me crazy; I never felt clean.
Not only does the sulfur soap clean well and rinse off easily, it has a really pleasant, clean smell - doesn't smell like sulfur at all - and it doesn't dry out my skin which surprised me, because sulfur can be very drying. It has also helped clean out and close up the pores around my nose.
I did have a couple of breakouts on my face after using it for about a week, but that was the soap doing its anti-bacterial thing. (wish I'd known about this soap when I had acne. The soap cleared my skin after two weeks, and right now it's very clear and my skin tone is very even - no redness)
I highly recommend it - it's great for a myriad of skin issues.
