I have just come across one paper and the blog of Dr. Bailey regarding the relationship between light and tretinoin.
If you want to reap full benefits of Retin-A, you should take a note of the comments stated below. As some of you apply moisturizer an hour after Retin-A, thus, you shall dim the light. For me, I apply Retin-A just seconds before hitting the bed.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2971693
"......After 4 hours of exposure to incandescent light, 80% of 0.05% topical isotretinoin and 60% of 0.05% topical tretinoin preparations remained in their original form. In contrast, after 2 hours of exposure to fluorescent light only 25% of topical tretinoin and possibly 60% of topical isotretinoin remained in their original forms......"

Glad I'm using Retin A Micro now. It's not suppose to get broken down due to being encapsulated. Phew! |

Seems that there is no paper to study if the encapsulated tretinoin has the ability to resist from being broken down by light. |

I have Retin-A Micro on my wish list - so this gives me good incentive to hurry up and get some! |

Maybe not, but I discussed this with my derm and she said the coating on RAM is suppose to enable it to hold up (she even said it could be used in the AM). |

I like the idea of applying RAM in the AM, but does it mean that I have to wait 1 hour before applying my sunscreen? |

Wow are you kidding me? Fluorescent light inactivates tretinoin too?? That's just insane. It basically gets ruined at any time of the day.
Dr. Bailey recommended to do it just before sleeping, but I thought Retin-A was supposed to be the only product applied to the face to allow it to work by itself. |

Tretinoin shouldn't be used during the day time as it can result in sun damage although using it at night and not applying a sunscreen can also results in sun damage as well. For this reason it sounds better to use the Tretinoin just at night time to avoid any complications no matter how they are caused, and the fact it gets deactivated in the sun (and fluorescent light) is just another reason to only use it at night. |
