I want to start lactic acid peels 2-3 months after I finish Accutane. My question is: Do I start with 40% or 55%? I can't afford to work my way up so I'd rather start with a slightly higher one. Is there a risk of burning if I start with 55% lactic acid?
What products would you recommend me to buy to prepare my skin and also for aftercare? |

Most advice I read recommended starting with 25-30% lactic acid for a couple of minutes and slowly working up. You definitely can burn the skin (or eyes!) with lactic acid. That is speaking from experience, using less than 40% for only a few minutes. Personally I would say you cannot afford NOT to work your way up - in any case pure lactic acid is inexpensive, you can dilute down yourself easily rather than purchasing a series of ready made dilutions. Scaling up gives you the chance to practice your application technique, practice your rinsing or neutralising technique and just having the right bits and pieces to hand. This step also prepares your skin without having to purchase branded products.
Forgive me but it sounds like you are planning months ahead? It might be safer if you plan this closer to the time, having discussed your plans with your dermatologist in case you need to take extra precautions after Accutane. You don't want to have forgotten any small safety details. |

Thanks.
That's exactly why I'm planning months ahead - So I know every single risk and what not to do. |
