Just saw a new product called DERMAdoctor Photodynamic Therapy. This lotion is "sunlight-activated laser lotion with spf 30" What do you think of this? You scientists out there - could this work?
http://www.dermadoctor.com/product_DERMAdoctor-Photodynamic-Therapy-sunlight-activated-laser-lotion-with-spf-30_3582.html?AID=30
Brief overview from the website:
Ground-breaking, patent-pending solar powered technology in lotion form captures UV light transforming it into visible red light, a proven energy source for eliciting anti-aging effects on the skin.
Just like solar panels on the roof capture the sun's UV rays and convert them into energy to power a home, Photodynamic Therapy captures and refracts the sun's UV rays, turning them into a powerful, device-free anti-aging machine.
In-office lasers, IPL (intense pulsed light) and other light treatments, used to help build collagen and elastin, are expensive and inconvenient, requiring a series of doctor’s visits and maintenance sessions.
At-home red light devices are costly, difficult to remember to use as well as time consuming.
Imagine a new reality in skin rejuvenation where skin can experience continuous exposure to anti-aging red light through the mere application of a lotion.
DERMAdoctor Photodynamic Therapy is clinically proven to restore skin firmness, radiance, tone, elasticity and reduce the appearance of redness, age spots, discoloration, pore size, fine lines and wrinkles.
How Does It Work?
Morinda Citrifolia Extract (Noni Fruit) contains a special polyphenol that specifically captures the sun’s rays then converts and emits this energy as a highly focused visible red wavelength of light (648nm) equivalent to that of a red LED.
Encapsulating this polyphenol with an inert tricalcium phosphate particle creates a complex capable of transmitting the visible red light to the skin where it works to firm the skin.
Photodynamic Therapy:
* Utilizes UV light to revitalize the skin
* Increases skin elasticity
* Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
* Improves skin tone and texture, and improves the appearance of redness, dryness, roughness, age spots, skin discoloration, pore size while restoring brightness and radiance.
Normal daily activity will activate product. Do not seek additional sun exposure. |

While Photodynamic Therapy is a valid therapy for cancer, I just am skeptical of this product and it's ability to convert sunlight to the red light necessary for photodynamic therapy. I'm waiting for some further evidence this works. |

Yeah maybe but probably not. For now I'm happy to *avoid* sunlight and do my LED as separate steps. What will they think of next? |

Who knows just how long that proof will be in coming? Not to mention if there will be unknown side effects? I know I am a skeptic about new products. |

I noticed that Jennifer Stallone (Sly's wife) who sells a line called Serious Skin Care on HSN, has a product called Light Fraxion that has Noni in it and it sounds like a rip-off of this more expensive DermaDoctor Photodynamic (which I bought and love, but have to use sparingly as it makes my skin break-out). I think the cheaper version is about $39.99.
I'm tempted to just buy some Noni caplets and mix one with my Nia or SkinMedica moisturizer, as a do-it-yourself sunscreen/therapy treatment. |

I'm also skeptical of this product. A cream that can create light? I think not |

I had a 6 week sample that I used up when I went to the beach and after this summer. I did not notice ANY results whatsoever from it. I did not have any adverse reation either. I would not purchase this although the Sephora girls were really hyping it up. My derm scoffed at the claims as well. Proof is in the use on this one for me and I felt like I did give it a fair trial. |

I'm not surprised he scoffed, I just dont see anything without energy creating light. If someone wants the benefits of LED they should look into a LED light device because at least then they know that they are definitely getting the technology and a decent LED device can be purchased at around the $100 mark anyway.
Personally even if it did work this is not something I would use, I would prefer to use a product with different actives and also be able to get the benefits from LED through using a seperate device. |

I did even try using it for the final 4 weeks after the beach with my LED as well. No results to report even with having that to activate it. Just a basic serum without hydration. I did have little tiny bumps now that I think about it and that's why I stopped using it even though I had another few days left. Wasn't sure if that was the culprit completely, but they did clear up. |

I think it's always a good thing to stick with your favorite serums that have proven actives in them, sure if we never tried another product we would not know if it worked for us or not but just keep the proven actives as the corner stone and branch out to other products. I think if a product is causing you adverse reactions unless it is a great product (like Retin-A) to discontinue its use. |
