I heard that you shouldn't moisturize after Lactic acid peels but you can use something like Aloe, etc.
My question is, what is the best thing to use after each of these peels and how long after applying them should you wait to moisturize...
Lactic
Glycolic
Mandelic
Salicylic - no idea what to use after this one
I have EMU and Jojoba that I use to keep my skin moisturized. I also have an Aloe plant that I use periodically.
Thank you! |

You can use just a very basic moisturizer. If your skin will peel also add something like vaseline or aquaphor. |

Where did you hear that, Flgirl, and what was the explanation given alongside that advice? Was the advice the same for very light as deeper peels? |

you can use Emu oil (I do ) or also, do like GirlieGirl says. Even after my deep TCA peel I use Emu oil. |

I believe I heard that from MUAC when I first started using them because with the lactic it brings the moisture to the surface of the skin. I'll try to find it in writing somewhere and post. I could have misunderstood, hence why I'm asking for advice...I wasn't sure what to use post peel for any of them. |

I have some friends that do deep peels (Jessner plus TCA ) and they like using Tamanu oil. Today I ordered ostrich oil. They say its similar to emu but even better for faster healing. I only order a sample but Im gona try it after a glycolic peel (my skin always turn tomato red with that) |

La Roche Posay Cicaplast is made just for post-peel skin healing so you may want to look into that. I would also recommend something very basic like CeraVe to get your lipid barrier back to normal. |

It might be obvious, but I just want to suggest that people make very sure that they've tried whatever they use to moisturize before and that their skin is definitely comfortable with it.
After a peel your skin is so vulnerable, could you imagine what a bad reaction would do to it? Oh, the HORROR!
I guess that's why they recommend only benign, pure products or oils.
I'm also interested to know "how long after applying them should you wait to moisturize". Anyone? I'd appreciate seeing a link/reference as well. |

With any peel, I am using Embryolisse. I didn't know you should use a moisturizer. |

I disagree with you to use just a basic moisturizer. Because you don't know what type of peeling this person use. Maybe a deep peel or medium peel, we don't know. I think best way is to consult a dermatologist to provide you information on types of moisturizer out there for your particular situation, that won't irritate your skin further after a peel (whatever type of peel it may be).

Whatever else I use, I top it off with Vaseline. That stuff is amazing. And, NO, it doesn't cause acne! |

Just found this
"The depot effect may turn up unexpectedly under rather surprising circumstances. For example, the application of 10% lactic acid to the nasalar cheek for 10 min, followed by rinsing, is often used to identify persons with ‘sensitive skin’, who typically experience stinging, peaking in about 8 min, as originally described by Frosch and Kligman in 1977 [54]. The site was rinsed with tap water at the end of the test to remove the residue. We studied many factors that influence the stinging reaction but did not anticipate one feature that was brought to our attention by some subjects, namely that taking a shower hours after the application of 10% lactic acid resulted in recall of stinging to the original level.
We examined the recall phenomenon more closely in five women who were moderate lactic acid ‘stingers’. Recall was provoked at various intervals by covering the site with a 2″ square of non-woven cloth (Webril) saturated with water, sealed under impermeable tape for 10 min, thoroughly wetting the site. After an 1-h interval, wet Webril fully restored stinging to the original degree. After 3 h, the stinging was slightly less. By 6 h, stinging was barely perceptible in three of five subjects and was no longer evident by 24 h. In another study of the same five subjects, the lactic acid site was not rinsed off after the 10-min application. In that case, moderate stinging was recalled in four of the five subjects after a 48-h interval but was no longer perceptible after 72 h. Our interpretation is that lactic acid established a depot in the horny layer of the face, known to be more permeable than other body areas. Wetting the site swelled the horny layer releasing the stored lactic acid."
