Why would the obagi nuderm give better results than just retin-a and HQ since it seems like its the same exact thing?
I can either pay $50 for retin-a and HQ compound cream or $300 for the nuderm. |

This is pretty much what I thought also
So I'm currently using Retin-A every third night or so and HQ cream other nights, also using Vivite Glycolic Night Cream a night thrown in there - it seems to be working - my skin is getting smoother and pores are getting more refined... |

Obagi is not just Retin A and HQ. The cleanser/toner are supposed to prep your skin and get it at the proper pH for the rest of the products. Clear is 4% HQ. Exfoderm (or forte) is phytic acid (AHA), and the Blender is HQ that is formulated specifically to be blended with the RA to push both ingredients into the deeper layers of your skin. Clear works for surface pigmentation, Blender/RA work in the deeper layers for the deeper pigmentation problems.
So, I think if you have pigmentation issues that are just in the top layers of your skin, using RA and HQ alone may be just fine. However, if your pigmentation is in the deeper layers, I think Nu Derm is the way to go.
I thought as you did, luvskincare, but after trying it with just RA and HQ with no results, and then using Nu Derm, there is no comparison. Nu Derm is still one of the only things that has given me results! Good luck either way you go! |

Its not any better IMO. I'd go with the $50 special compound. |

Restarting now that its fall. I just was confused why there would be a difference between plain retin-a and HQ vs. Nuderm.
I figured they would give the same results.
Rileygirl-Did you first try retin-a/HQ with no results before using the nuderm? |

There is no difference. I think Dr. Obagi is laughing all the way to bank...The 3 keys ingredients In Nu-Derm are: Tretinoin/Retin-A, Hydroquoine 4% and AHA. That is it!
Tretinon-$20.00 for 3 tubes (insurance usually covers it) Hydroquoine 4% with a perscription from your doctor $31.00 @ Walmart (use instead of CLEAR) and AHA lotion~$8.00 for a large bottle.(use instead of EXFODERM) IN fact, the Exfoderm's consistency and smell is EXACTLY like my $8 bottle of AHA lotion and for the Sunfader..use your own sunscreen and add some Hydroquoine to it if you want. The Sunfader only had 15 SPF in it anyway..which is not enough.. There is nothing special in the toner or Cleanser that contribute to the end result. You can make your own version of this stuff without the price tag$$$. There is a video on Youtube about this. I'll send it to you if you're intersted. And the Obagi Nu-derm is useless without the Retin-A so what does that tell you?! |

Thank you
I was thinking the same exact thing. My compound rx would consist of .001% retin-a, 4%HQ, and some aha mixed together. It would cost me $50 and last about 3 months. I am going to go ahead and try this first! |

I think she was saying if you had health insurance your co-pay would be about $20.
The cost for the big tube of generic retin-a CASH PRICE is under $50 at Wal-Mart or Walgreens. I bet COSTCO mail order is even less. |
