I have always had VERY thick soles on my feet regardless of what shoes I wear or how much exercise I do. 'Cheese grater', pumice and sandpaper type foot files just don't cut it, a bladed corn plane is needed but I am not very accomplished at getting the skin smooth! I've considered the 'Baby Foot' product (acid gel 'socks') but that apparently leaves huge quantities of dead skin all over your home, and I have a mild dust mite allergy. Considered buying a foot cream with urea but I also have sensitive skin and don't like the feel of cream or socks on my feet at night. Not that I am awkward or anything!
Last night I used the corn plane AND Barefootgirl's vinegar soak AND moisturising cream with socklets. A lot of dead skin was removed but today the soft parts are dry, the calloused parts are still thick and I appear to have a slight case of Athlete's Foot! I suspect my skin does not really like acetic acid, but I use hydrating lactic acid peels on my face so .... I am hesitating on a DIY lactic acid soak as I don't know what percentage to use? Plus I can't really work out how a foot soak is not going to burn the soft parts of my feet?
I have already found this thread but it went off topic, hence the new one

TL-DR Anyone have a cheap, easy solution for VERY calloused feet and dry, sensitive skin? I am based in the UK but can use eBay or other online stores if I need more than just lactic acid.
Thank you! |

Thank you, that thread is an oldie but goodie! Helped me in one major way already, I realised I need to suck it up and moisturise my feet. |

I have genetically inherited cracked feet syndrome... My mother takes to her feet with an orbital sander! I don't advocate that. Like you I've tried everything and anything, never go around with bare feet etc and still the problem. Until now. In the past 2 weeks I ve started rubbing my body down head to toe with virgin coconut oil after my shower daily. And to my surprise within 4 days the soles of my feet were soft and almost all cracks were gone after about a week. And I wasn't even applying it to the soles of my feet, just the tops of my feet and the rest of my body. Why thats working is anyone guess but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. |

Wow, that's kind of fascinating! Do you think it just made its way down or do you think your body/skin absorbed it and dispursed it where it was needed? |

That is unbelievable! Coconut oil contains molecules small enough can be absorbed into the hair shaft, maybe skin can too? I used shea butter a couple of nights ago which made a slight difference, might just try coconut oil next and report back. Thanks! |

I wanted to chime in with an experiment I tried the other night for this. I applied 20% TCA with a cotton ball on the worst parts of my feet (balls and heals due to wearing high heals every day). I then followed the TCA with coconut oil and wore those VERY thick socks they sell for foot treatments around the holidays overnight. I did this for two nights in a row. About 4 nights later, (which was last night) I noticed the bottoms of my feet were peeling like crazy. I soaked them for a few minutes and used the purple pumice scrubber they sell in Sally's to get all the dead skin off. I'm happy to say, my feet are so much smoother!
The balls of my feet are still thick, but not too bad anymore. I'm planning to do this again in a few days. Probably just one night though instead of two. I don't want to overdo it. I'll also wear gloves this time when applying the TCA. I noticed a few days after doing the peel, my fingertips were rough and peeling even though I washed my hands immediately afterwards.
I've also tried everything for this. The little automatic sander they sell on QVC, razors, bi-weekly pedicures, coconut oil, etc. It's a constant battle, but this seemed to really make an improvement. |

Thanks Jennoskcaj! I have made no progress, other than purchasing a 25% urea foot cream. |

Look up Callus Peel. Before I bought it I looked it up on here and maybe saw one other person comment on it. I have since reordered it when there was a 30% off sale. I wouldn't call it cheap, but boy is it ever effective. I've never used anything like it. Look also at the youtube videos, gross, but it's really like that! |

When I lived in France, Eucerin's 10% urea cream (the big pump bottle, not the foot cream) made my mildly rough feet nice and smooth. I still haven't found the equivalent here, so just trying to finish off a bottle of Gold Bond restoring with a high urea content before trying something else.
In particular, I've got my eye on Topix Urix 40% spray, wonderful to keep hands clean while moisturizing feet (a trick I already use with a CVS/Walgreens cocoa butter spray).
