I have some small dark spots from being irresponsible in my earlier years with the sun.
Is there a product that anyone has used that has really been effective?
Thank you for any help you can offer! |

Some helps that have made a difference for me at different times...laser treatment, Olay Definity, Missha Signature Wrinkle filler foundation, astaxanthin capsules. |

Apply sour lemon cream on your face. Do not rinse this mask off completely; gently wipe off with a soft tissue and top it up with a moisturizer.Regular use of fruit and vegetable masks such as those made with apricots, strawberries, cucumbers and red currant will help lighten freckles. |

It all depends on what approach you want to take..it you want a home remedy or want to go the medical route.
Your dermatologist can get rid of them quickly with liquid nitrogen. They'd look like scabs for a week then fall off and the spots would be gone.
you could use 4% hydroquinone which is a medical grade cream that will fade them over a period of time and suppresses any coming up in your skin..
you could use holistic approaches like creams with kojic acid... I saw the Dr. Oz show last week he had one that cost $12 from a drugstore... it works over 12 weeks time. you could find the brand on his website.
I've seen home remedies of lemon and yogurt and other concoctions..
also..every cosmetic line right now has spot faders on the market..it is one of the latest crazes. I use Estee Launders, Clinique has one..so does Aveeno..and I think Lancome.
I find Estee Launders works somewhat..my skin is brighter..spots faded...but it isn't working like hydroquinone did when I used it before.
and I'll end with..use an spf of 30 as you use any approach and keep it up after the spots are gone I slacked off on the sunscreen that is why I have a few that have come back.
I hope this helps.. |

hotdocgirl, where can you buy hydroquinone 4%? Is it supposed to cause cancer? |

Try ordinary wart remover on spot - the kind that is 23% salicytic acid. It will start sloughing off layers of skin in a day or two. sometimes just one treatment is needed, sometimes 2 or 3. I sure wish I had known this before spending thousands of $ on pro fractional laser, hydroquinine Rx etc. It is very effective, very inexpensive, quickly provides results and available at any drugstore. Try it!

Whoa. 23% salicylic acid? Isn't that way extreme? What exactly would happen? Would it be like a chemical peel and peel away the damaged layers or would it leave a chemical burn scar? |

you can obaji clear on Amazon which is the 4%...there was a study that showed it was damaging to the liver i think..but it was in large doses and not applicable to most situaitons. So there was a lot of alarm over that.
I feel very safe using it for a few months to fade spots. I think it is using long term or forever that is questionable.
Still, many are looking for a safer method. |

I think you can buy 25% s acid from peel places which provide very careful intructions re how to use. No need to use such a high percentage in my opinion - pretty dangerous and you can easily cause further scarring.
I have 4% hydroquinone which works gently. 4% is available at drugstores in Canada. If I stop using it for a month and start again it really seems to rev up its performance for some reason.
Try OCM massage! |

I have faded but not completely removed my spots with Divine Derriere. Its 4 percent hydroquinine. I am also using super copper peptide serum.
After the new year and my wedding, I am increasing my use of products. i can't have any irritation. My wedding is a week from Monday. |

Went the dermatologist route and it worked. Quick spray of liquid nitrogen and gone after a week of scabbing. Now here's hoping it doesn't come back!!! |

I just wanted to say that I find that any of my skin discolorations (small spots from old zits) are more pronounced when I haven't been eating enough fruit & vegetables. Its really significant too. I'm not sure whether thats due to my brown colouring, or whether its the same for everyone.
Also, there are a couple of marks which do not seem to fade, no matter what I try. I'm not sure what they are, but I don't think they're scars brought about by any bruising/damage. |

Microdermabrasion 2-3 times a week and a good glycolic acid moisturizer. I like Neostrata microdermabrasion, the peel solution is nice too. |

Obagi Clear,(4% hydroquinone)twice a day, is the only product that has ever gotten rid of my age spots, and general discoloration.
It's what my dermatologist recommended for me.
For some reason Triluma didn't work as well for me. |

I have been doing Lactic acid perks 1-2x a week (40% from MUAC)and they have considerably lightened any sun spots as well as acne scars. I just did a 12.5% TCA peel which should really help as well. In the past I used kojic acid which did help, but my skin needed a bit more than a topical could provide. And if course, the key is to always use sunscreen. I find physical blockers made with micro zinc oxide to work the best. |
