I used a 20% Salicylic Acid Peel at home. I'm an indian male. I used it one night for a minute and then washed it off, then 4 days later I used it and left it on for 5 minutes. My skin got better, but I ended up with some serious hyperpigmentation on both my cheeks. The area with the HP is the exact area where the skin peeled off. So I saw my derm she said it should take 4 weeks to resolve and she gave me 4% HQ. I saw her one week after the last peel. She told me to wait one week and then wait apply it once at night and to use sunscreen every morning. It's now been two weeks since the pigmentation started and I am just starting to use the HQ. Should I use it 2x a day? Will it resolve in 4 weeks? Is there anything else I can do to speed up the process? Do you suggest using a certain face wash etc? How bad does the burn look to you? I've been taking Vitamin D supps because I've been low on that in blood tests, should I stop taking that?
Thanks! |

Follow what your derm told you, use the HQ once at night and a good sunscreen every day. You may see results in 4 weeks, but it could take a little longer. Those 2 things (sunscreen and HQ) are the "gold standard" for hyperpigmentation. |

I'm using Neutrogena Lotion SPF 30 PA++. Is there something better or another sunscreen you suggest?
Thanks. |

NYCguy, if that is working for you, I would stick with it for now, but I prefer the physical sunscreens (zinc based) because that is what works on my skin, plus the zinc sunscreens can be soothing to the skin. HTH! |

What sunscreens are physical? I just got the one mentioned above, I've typically used Cetahphil 15. Curious as to what Zinc based stuff works for you / other people and what the benefits are.
Thanks! |

There are a ton out there. If you do a board search, I believe there was a huge thread on physical sunscreens. I use Burnout at the moment. It is ok, kind of sticky, but it does protect and I don't tan. Pratima makes a really nice sunscreen, as well as Devita, which is very nice and light. There are a lot more, but these are the ones that come to mind at the moment! |

Given that you said you're of Indian descent, so probably darker skinned like me I'd recommend Devita. Not that I've tried all the others, but Devita has a soothing formulation and leaves NO white cast.
It takes a long time for my hyperpigmentation to fade, but it may be different for you and depend on the cause. Mine were from zits, not peels. |
