hi ive been using the obagi nu derm system for normal/oily skin for 4 months and my skin was looking great in month 3 and suddenly in my 4th month my neck and face has become extremely red and im constantly peeling. when i wash my face and ged rid of the excess dry skin it looks as if someone has used a knife and cut fine lines on my face and then the dry skin comes back again. i look like i have no skin left and im just red. i had to take time off work. thats how bad i look. my doctor told me to reduce applying the nu derm system from 7 days a week to 2 days a week and i have to see him again in 8 weeks. also my hand has started to peel and became darker but the peeling has stopped. has this happened to anyone else? my doctor refuses to believe my condition of my hand has anything to do with the obagi nu derm. all i know is i didnt have this problem before i started this system. |

Do you wash your hands after applying the Obagi products? Are you using a high factor zinc oxide sunscreen daily on your hands? Yes this has happened to other people because Obagi is an aggressive system; if you run a search there are loads of threads where this is discussed. |

thanks for getting back to me. I use sunscreen that is in the obagi pack and yes i wash my hands after i apply the products on my face and neck. My main worry is that its been 4 months and my face and neck are completely red and i look raw. is this normal for other people. im afraid i ill never look normal again and the doctor is denying that obagi made my hand go darker which it has. |

IIRC the Obagi sunscreen is a chemical one, not sure if it is a high factor? A zinc oxide block is far gentler - zinc is traditionally used in diaper cream. Are you using the Obagi cleanser that contains sulphate surfactants? If so that is a known irritant and would be worth eliminating for the time being. Skin has the most incredible ability to repair and regenerate: as I said run a search and read of other similar experiences, that should help you feel better. Easy to say but try not to stress because this is actually damaging to your skin. Really a telephone consultation is no substitute for a face-to-face one, IMO move that appointment forward or find a new dermatologist. |
