I have fairly mild-moderate acne. When I first hit puberty I had one or two pimples a month, but over the last few years I have been breaking out a lot more. I'm wondering if my acne will start to disappear when I turn twenty or a few years after. I am nineteen now. My dad has real clear skin now and my mom just gets a pimple every now and then. I have three siblings all 8+ years older than me and they have clear skin, I don't remember when their skin started to clear up though. So what do you all think, will my skin get better within the next few years? Has anyone else's acne cleared up when they hit their twenties? |

I think it's common to still have acne after you turn 20 and throughout your 20s. I know I had acne in my early 20s and know many people who were the same! Maybe after 25 is more realistic to expect your acne to go away. |

No way of knowing unfortunately. Best thing you can do is ensure your diet and lifestyle consistently meet or exceed all your government's recommendations, and treat your skin with gentle, non-comedogenic products. More often than we realise acne is caused or contributed to by overly enthusiastic exfoliation or cleansers containing known irritants. These can damage the skin barrier allowing bacteria to gain entry. |

Firefox has good advice. Use this as an opportunity to develop good health and skincare routines. Eating is so important. I had acne in my teens and it went away in my mid twenties, but came back with a vengeance in my 30's. Try to keep as gentle a routine as possible that keeps you clear, but if it isn't working, don't hesitate to gradually try stronger products until they work for you. The good news is if you use products like retin a, it will help fight aging issues down the road. |

I had very very mild acne from 17 to 22, then no acne until I was 25, then moderate acne. Both of my parents have really clear skin. No way of knowing, unfortunately. You should definitely take measures to get it under control now, though. You don't want to end up with scars - they are almost impossible to get rid of. |

No way to tell. Mine didn't really start till my 20's and I'm still fighting it 20 years later. |

Hi, MizMeg.. Considering that your parents and siblings have beautiful skin, i think that might have something to do with lifestyle changes, like diet, sleeping habit, and all ... other things part of growing up that can eventually cause hormonal imbalance and result to acne breakouts. My advice, watch out for these lifestyle changes that might have prompted your acne breakouts, it might help to adjust or advance your skin care routine so that your skin can better cope up with them. Save your skin from acne scars by having anti-acne products ready, mild skin care products, i.e., facial cleanser, exfoliator (a must once or twice a week, especially if you cannot go out without makeup), facial mask at least once a week (purifying/detox/hydrating masks are basically helpful against acne), and moisturizer, and drink lots of water. About acne scars, i know spot treatments can help to reduce fresh acne scars but those that have left dark spots on the skin, whitening cream can help to reduce them. Hope this helps. |

Gosh I had barely an acne until my 20's! In my teens a spot or 2 on my chin around the time of my period - nothing major and that is not considered acne, if that's what you're suffering...
But by age 23 I was getting a lot of pimples and it made me very self-conscious. My 30's were even worse with hormonal changes and stress.
If it gets serious I would consider Retin-a -- and most definitely cleaning up your lifestyle and diet |

I had a sudden break out of acne between 17-24.
When i hit 25 onwards, the acne just slowly went away. I think its mostly due to hormonal changes. My cousin sister went through the same phase. However, it depends on the severity of the acne as well. A friend of mine has a serious case of acne, well into his 30s, and he had to see a dermalogist for it. But the general case would be, wait till you're about 25 onwards...you'll see your skin start to calm down. |

Have you seen a derm? If you feel your skin is a real issue and you have access, you might consider seeing a derm. It's probably hormonal. Birth control pills are sometimes helpful in decreasing hormonal acne.
I know it's a pain, and I hope you find something that works for you. |

If i were you i would see your doctor or a derm if is bothering you, if you tackle it now you will feel better and you dont want the expense and frustration of dealing with possible long term blemeshes. See the doctor hun. |

This will depend what you put inside your body... Good natural food and less of junk foods, more healthy lifestyles will definitely improve your skin...
