OK my face looks 20 but my body looks 40!
Sure I have been a sun worshipper throughout my life but like reversing age in the face, I'm looking for doing it for my body.
I use a mix of products from NCN and SkinActives. Using this on my body could be a little costly, so does anyone recommend a good cream or range of products specifically for body anti-ageing?
A horrible mixture of weight loss, ageing and to be honest, a little neglect, has seen the appearance of folds and lines above my elbows, knees. I'd love to turn my body skin's clock back a few years.
Any tried and tested solutions? |

I am very interested in doing something for the skin on my body too. I always looked after my facial skin, not so much from the neck down. I have really upped the ante since about age 45..things start to go downhill from then on I reckon.
I have 3 bulging discs in my lower back and cannot do very much exercise, its terribly frustrating. My skin is ok, but would love something lifting for my upper arms and inner thighs...oh the joys of menopause....lol!!
because it is such a large area it is too expensive to use actives that we use on our faces. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. TIA |

I think the most cost-effective solutions would be DIY vitamin C serum and AHA body lotion and glycolic acid peel.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8642081
This study found that a lotion containing 25% AHA increases skin thickness over 6 months of daily use. You can either make your own, which is hard because AHAs aren't effective over a certain pH. I think you'll want at least a 10% lotion. There was another study that found that daily AHA lotion supplemented with monthly glycolic peels also helped increase skin thickness. If you do this, make sure you're completely covered up or wear an effective sunscreen, like Devita Solar Body Block.
I've put in an order for Garden of Wisdom 15% AHA lotion at 1.9 pH so I'll see how well it works. Be careful if you're going to buy an AHA lotion as a lot of them contain some nasty preservatives like diazolidinyl urea, off the top of my head, which releases formaldehyde.
Do you know your body composition? You mention weight loss - this could mean muscle loss, a decreased metabolism which makes your body look less toned (since you've still got the fat). I'd suggest weight training and protein powder. |

Thanks for the info onmyboat. Interesting study and I have used this exfoliation/VitC/AHA method on my face with much success.
OK, time to move south with it.
I've lost weight through plenty of weight training and cardio, mixed with a high protein (but otherwise risky) diet. It's not that loose skin that everyone thinks of when people lose weight, it just has a few more "folds" than it used to.
onmyboat, could you please point me to the 15% AHA lotion pages on GOW (GOW newbie thx! |

I think using something like MD Formulations Hand & Body Cream (glycolic) on your body a few times a week, as well as just using a very good basic body moisturizer the remainding days, applying some pure oils to your body like olive oil or coconut oil do the trick and then SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN when you're outside.
I love the MD Formulations Hand & Body Cream, when I remember to buy it! lol it makes a huge difference to dryness and rough skin but I find if I overuse it, conversely I end up a bit dry - so it's all about moderation and balancing it out.
Any good quality glycolic cream for the body will do the trick though. |

Also, Skin Actives sells a lot of great DIY ingredients that can be mixed in large quantities with minimal expense. I was thinking of doctoring up my good old gold bond lotion with:
http://www.skinactives.com/Soy-Isoflavones.html ($9.50 enough for 8 ounces)
or
http://www.skinactives.com/Alpha-Lipoic-Acid-ALA.html ($8.50 enough for 20 ounces)
or
http://www.skinactives.com/Niacinamide-Vitamin-B3.html ($8.50 enough for 32 ounces)
****
Anyway, the suggestions for exfoliation are great. I am actually going to try dry brushing. I have read a lot of great things about it - especially that it increases circulation.
And speaking of circulation, inversion poses in yoga are very anti-aging. Something as simple as putting your legs up against the wall while you are relaxing and watching TV. |

I saw one of my doctors during the week and she is a couple of years younger than me -- her face looks fantastic and she does a lot to it - laser, retin-a, fillers - she looks fantastic - but the skin on her body looks at least 10 years older than her age - you can tell she has spent a lot of time in the sun, and she actually admits it too which is why she is doing the hardcore tactical response on her face.
I dont do a lot to my body to be honest but I do always slather it in body lotions and natural oils when I get out of the shower and I always apply sunscreen before going outdoors. It all seems to be doing fine |

Baseline advice : Exercise is King, Nutrition is Queen (Jack LaLane).
For the body - Exercise is key to staying young and taut. A workout also provides blood flow to the extremities and feeds the skin.
Also for the general appearance of the skin dry brushing Will help tone and increase cell turnover - give a glow and Cerave moisturizer after is full of yummy things to feed and soften(I buy it in the tub). I also recommend a Japanese towel called Salux - It is unparalleled for soft skin and a means of loofahing in the shower. See reviews on Makeup Alley. There are raves on EDS about Carole Maggio's Body To Go product which may still be on special this month but I dont know. It's designed to lift the body.
Sunscreen of course. And on Skinbiology it is endorsed to do acid peels and dermarolling. |

The skin on my body has greatly improved by using a filtered showerhead, a Baiden Mitten, taking Hair, Skin and Nail Vitamins, DMAE, Fish Oil supplements, Hgh supplements, Resveratrol and Nivea Cellulite Gel. I haven't found the perfect body lotion yet though. Any other good suggestions? |

I forgot to mention I also take MSM supplements. I was just on GNC's website and saw a number of good reviews on their collagen products for skincare. Has anyone here tried collagen products? If so, what has been your experience? |

Agatha, I had extreme gauntness because of an extreme * spam alert * to a delicious tasting ginger powder. How was I to know that it was a fat-burner?
I thought that it was because of my lack of protein. I continued doing my flexEffect routine but it seemed to encourage my gauntness.
The solution: I had gotten trigger thumb and golfer's elbow through a marathon session of gardening. I looked for remedies, exercises. Then I spotted some excellent reviews on iherb for a product containing collagen 1 & 3 that you take in water before any food in the morning (I use a stick blender to mix it in). You must refrain from eating for 30 mins.
I gained 5 lbs in a bit under 2 weeks. It affects the skin on the whole body. My face started plumping up from the first day. It's like night and day. I'm not joking. I wasn't even taking it for my gauntness.
The ridiculous thing is that it's so inexpensive. And has no taste.
Now I can indulge in my ginger. Oh, btw, it did nothing for my joints so far. Here's the product that I got, but I don't think that brand is important:

Totally agree with Sistersweets on exercise, and several of the other recommendations (e.g., exfoliation). I just wanted to add that I really love Carole Maggio's No Lipo Lipo for helping the body look firmer. |

Callanetics Evolution will 'fix' your sagging, aging body and best of all, the combination of stretching and slow pulsing exercises will not harm or exacerbate any back problems in fact I found that my lifelong ache from scoliosis is a thing of the past. You'll see results in just two days! |

Nice to find someone else who loves Callanetics Evolution, too. I always hear so many raves about the original Callanetics and used to love doing it back in the day, but I grew tired of it and the style was so outdated. I love this newer version of Callanetics so much more. It seems gentler, but the exercises still challenge you. I, too, feel less aches and pains pain when I use it consistently, 3 times a week. And I sleep more soundly.
Have you tried the Cardio Callentetics? That one is good, as well, but not as good as the EVO, IMO. |

Sandy, there is so much I love about EVO! Sandra's soothing voice constantly reminding me about 1) my pelvic floor 2) my breathing 3) my shoulders and 4) my counter pulls. The hour I spend every day doing these exercises is the most peaceful hour of my day.
I haven't tried the Cardio workout yet, too scared!
Did you know that Judy died of a very aggressive cancer last year? She was diagnosed in June and passed away in October. So very sad. I am in my fifties and always gravitated to watching her do the exercises. I can't believe that she was 71!

terraaus,
That's wonderful that the skin on your body has greatly improved.
How has it improved? What specific changes have you noticed (ie--more firmness, more moisture, less discoloration, less acne, etc).
How long did you take those supplements? |

Like others have said, sunscreen - since we don't do as much anti-aging treatments on our bodies as on our faces, and places like hands/forearms/chest tend to be exposed to sun all year round (outside in summer, and via office windows etc in winter), the skin there tends to age faster.
I've been using GOW 15% glycolic cream for a few weeks now and I've been really liking it. It does sting a little but it does seem to be helping address some ideas - I've got clogged pores on my upper arms and some sun damage on my back, which is improving.
I think for addressing sag/droop - best thing is to remain at a stable weight, as gaining and losing the same 5 pounds will destroy arm/breast skin. This is also where weight training comes in as it will help offset some extra caloric intake.
As for body composition - I think the most youthful look is when you have muscle covered by a light layer of fat. You don't want to focus on just cardo or "girl" weights (ie 5 lbs) because you'll never look as a sleek and fit as with weight training. |

Sorry...I didn't see this post until today.
Yes, I had heard about Judy passing away and was so saddened by the news. Every time I do Callanetics Evo and see her my heart aches a bit. What a beautiful lady and an inspiration to so many. |
