Hi
Has anyone tried this?
Ellis Faas is a Dutch makeup artist who works with many world-famous fashion designers and photographers and her foundation seems to have very good reviews.
If you've tried it, I'd love your opinions and any info. about the shade you use.

I have tried a few Ellis Faas products and been very pleased indeed with them. The one annoying factor for me has been the packaging.
Whilst the packaging is extremely aesthetically pleasing, it can be an awful pain to actually use. I'm so glad that I read reviews before trying it, which meant that I wasn't surprised when it took almost half an hour of clicking, interspersed with waiting, for some product to finally be dispensed upon first usage. Thankfully, it is far quicker and easier upon subsequent occasions. The trouble is that if you click it too much, a large pool of product seeps out (and you don't want to waste such expensive stuff).
However, the lipstick, eye shadow and foundation I tried were all beautiful shades and performed very well indeed.
I bought the Milky Lips in 201 - blood red. This is a stunning, rich, highly pigmented lip product. It lasted for several hours during a dinner dance and didn't leave my lips feeling dried out at all.
I used the Milky Eyes (shade 209) over Urban Decay Primer Potion. This is a soft, neutral, your-eyes-but-better shade and is very pretty and natural. Again, it lasted well over my eye primer and was easy to apply using my finger (I found the inbuilt brush a little awkward).
Finally, I requested Skin Veil foundation samples from the Ellis Faas website. These took quite a while to arrive, but did eventually show up. I'm happy to say that they are also available in bottle format, which would be so much easier to use and more economical than the bullet-pens.
I received shades 102, 103 and 105. My skin is Celtic pale and I found all of these shades to be too dark. I'd like to try 101 as I think it would be perfect for me.
Coverage is wonderfully light and very natural-looking. However, it is possible to layer it for more covering power. It didn't seem to sit in my fine lines so I'd recommend it for anyone else with mature skin. |

Wow - thanks so much for such a full review of the foundation and other products in the line!
I really want to try the foundation but choosing a shade online is always difficult. I think I'm probably the second lightest shade - 102. When you tried the sample, do you remember if 102 was fairly neutral or did it have obvious pink or yellow undertones? |

You're very welcome indeed, Tefla.
Alas, you've asked the wrong person about colours and undertones as I am incredibly bad at describing them! 
My best shot would be to describe it as peachy in tone. That kind of makes it somewhere between pink and yellow, I think. Probably not at all helpful, I'm afraid. 
Given the price, I'd advise you to try if possible to either visit a stockist in person or, if you don't mind waiting a little while for them to arrive, requesting some samples from the website. If you think you may be 102, then I'd ask if you could try 101, 102 and 103, to be on the safe side.

| majorb, did you you ever order this foundation? I am currently coming to the end of mine and am wondering if this might be a good alternative especially as Sephora now carries the line. TIA! |

No, but I really liked the samples I tried, Havana. Since it's a bit pricey and works out much more economically viable, not to mention easier to use, to buy the bottled version, I would highly recommend you get a sample first. Sephora are usually brilliant and very helpful for this.
Great news about Sephora carrying the line. I do hope that the Canada stores will have it.
I ended up falling in love with Urban Decay Naked foundation. So light, natural-looking and easy to use. |

Thanks, majorb!  Yes, that's the one annoying thing about Sephora--just because it is in the online NA store doesn't mean that they will ship it to Canada as is the case with several of the Kohgendo products for instance.  I may have to check out your Urban Decay foundation instead! Thanks again. |

I got my samples by actually emailing the Ellis Faas site and asking for them, describing my skin tone and some of the foundation shades I use in other brands. They were incredibly helpful. The only problem was that they took a little while to arrive and I had almost lost hope of receiving them when they finally got here.
The Urban Decay is really lovely, not to mention much easier to get hold of. I use their Good Karma Optical Illusion (or whatever it's called!) stippling brush. This is the first time I've ever tried using a brush for foundation application and it worked very well and easily.
You need to shake the bottle well first and the product just glides onto the skin, giving a light to medium coverage. Even so, it seems to tone down any imperfections. If a blemish does pop up, you can always pat a little extra foundation on top.
For me, the effect is extremely natural, even though I ended up with a much darker looking (in the bottle) colour than my skintone. It blends in and matches in with my complexion perfectly. They have red toned versions (shades ending in .5) and then yellow tones.
There are loads of reviews and Youtube vids if you want to see how it applies but I'd be more than happy to help if you have any more questions. Love this stuff!  |

Just to let you know that I've managed to get a foundation and concealer sample in the correct shade in the Ellis Faas range and am currently testing them out, havana. Not sure whether you're still interested in it but I'm really loving it so far. I'll give a proper review once I've tried it a bit more - along with whether I think it's better on me than the new Giorgio Armani Maestro (which I'm also trying).
Did you ever find something that worked well for you as I think we're looking for the same kind of thing? |
