Hello,
I am thinking of getting a facial but have heard a difference of opinions on how healthy they actually are for your skin. I was wondering if anyone has ever had "bad results" from receiving one.
Thanks!

HI there

Ive had a couple of Dermalogica facials and thought they were fab. Ive not heard about anyone receiving bad results from a facial, I didnt think that was possible! But then I does suppose it depends on where you go! Laughing

I personally believe in 'DIY' facials. I do my own, using exactly the same products that the facialist used on me in the salon, in virtually exactly the same way, which has done wonders for my skin. Basically I used the facials I had done in the salon to find out exactly what products she used on me, made a mental note, then sourced them online (www.strawberrynet.com). The products did cost me a fortune but work out a lot cheaper than the £40/month (around $75 USD) per month which is how often she reckoned I should have had them.

A lot of people say that the whole point of a facial is being pampered, which is definetly true (if you can afford that regular luxury), but for me its more results (im combination, acne-prone), and if I can get them at home, for a fraction of the cost, then why not?

Well that my 2-cents. I hope it helps.

What brand of facial were you thinking of having? This website may help you in doing your own

the woman I would like to go to advised me to use Jan Marini products, as I have combo sensitive skin with mild rosacea, though I am not sure if they are the products she would be using.
Thanks for the info.!

They key is finding a great therapist. I have an awesome dermalogica one ... if find they do great training. However, not all therapists are the same, I would call the skin care company you use and ask them for a recommendation in your city.

I agree Dermalogica do a great facial. You will find wherever you go that they will try and sell you the products that they use. Cool

I went to one that I liked at the time but hated when I got home and found the products they sold me to be bad for my skin.

If they only sell 1 line of product beware, they'll sell it to you even if it's not right for you.

I've had a bad facial actually. My very first one too, took years before I went close to a salon again!! My face was full of red spots when I left the salon. She hadn't steamed my skin properly, and really did a horrible bad job on removing blackheads! I had even warned her that my very pale skin was sensitive and I will get horrible red marks that won't disappear for days if I squise blackheads without proper steaming. Horrible woman....

My next facial, years after at another salon, was wonderful. For the first time my skin wasn't flushed and full of red spots after treatment!

I suggest you get recommendations from friends before you decide on a salon.
