And other ingredients?
Is that better than using lotion base?
I was thinking of using aloe vera gel as the base and add a few essential oil drops like rose or frankincense along with turmeric powder and zinc oxide powder for sun protection.
Carrier oils make my skin to shiny and sometimes clock my pores, I find aloe vera to be more refreshing and let your skin breath and nourish it as well.
Lotion base may be to clogging as well, I'm not sure what will be the result of using aloe vera as a substitute for lotion base or carrier oils.
Will aloe vera an excellent option or just a total mess?
Thank You! |

I think you should use another carrier oil as a base, instead of aloe because aloe is very different and wont blend nicely with the other oils your using. |

What about using aloe vera gel, a small amount of carrier oil (grapeseed, apricot kernel, or kukui nut if you're worried about clogged pores and want a lighter oil), your essential oils, and a little emulsifer like liquid lecithin? You should also add some vitamin E and/or vegetable glycerine as moisturizers and preservatives. If you blend it this way, you'll basically have a super light lotion that won't clog your pores, but adding the carrier oil and the emulsifer will allow your essential oils to disperse evenly among the other ingredients in your blend. |

AFAIK you need emollients or occlusives for the zinc oxide to adhere to the skin; plus aloe vera is not a suitable diluent for essential oils because oil and water don't mix - you will need to use an emulsifier.
Actually the comedogenicity is closer to being inversely related to how light or heavy an oil is, because how large the molecules are and whether the fatty acids are saturated, monounsaturated or polyunsaturated is critical. Olive squalane is a 'light' option which will not clog pores - it blends well with AV given the right emulsifier and the combination sinks in beautifully IME.
Another option is to experiment with adding zinc oxide to a light aloe vera base lotion - Aloe Pura do a good one. |
