It is very scary, and from what I have read we get most sun damage before we even hit 20! Also any freckles are actually sun damage!

This is what it says about freckles in the brochure:

Some people are born with freckles; others get them from the sun. They almost always increase in number in the sun. People with freckles have a higher risk of developing melanoma.

I wonder what sunscreen they are including in their "Get A Free Suncare Kit" section?

Thank you Havana,

That is new information to me, I did not know some were born freckled as I had read otherwise.

The container looks to be private labeled, and Leo Pharma does not seem to manufacture a sunscreen. They do make drugs to treat AK, etc. however.

We are obsessed with freckles. Wanna see some pretty ones?

The thing about freckles is that they can be normal & healthy, or they can result from photodamage.

Freckle facts:

What types of freckles are there?

There are two basic types of freckles: simple freckles and sunburn freckles. Simple freckles are usually tan, round, and small -- about the size of a common construction nail head. Sunburn freckles are often darker, have irregular jagged borders, and may be larger than a pencil eraser. Sunburn freckles are more common on the upper back and shoulders where people frequently get their most severe sunburns.

Ephelides (singular: ephelis) is the Greek word and medical term for freckle. This term refers to flat spots that are tan, slightly reddish, or light brown and typically appear during the sunny months. They are most often found on people with light complexions, and in some families, they are a hereditary (genetic) trait. People with reddish hair and green eyes are more prone to these types of freckles. Sun avoidance and sun protection, including the regular use of sunscreen, may help to suppress the appearance of the some types of freckles.

Lentigines (singular: lentigo) comes from the Latin word for lentil and is the medical term for certain types of darker freckles and sunburn freckles. Lentigines tend to be darker than the common freckle and do not usually fade in the winter. This kind of spot is referred to as lentigo simplex. Although occasionally lentigines are part of a rare genetic syndrome, for the most part they are just isolated and unimportant spots.

No problem, and I'm glad it went through for you.

I'm glad we know better now so that we can help protect our kids from making the same sun mistakes that we did. Of course, that doesn't mean they'll listen to us, though, does it? Wink

I really wish that tanning salons would go out of business. They are the worst offenders.

Thanks again!

No sadly our kids reach an age where they do as they please and we have no say! It really is a shame they have to learn the hard way!

I have never used any tanning beds or fake tans, it is strange but I have drastically changed I like a fair skinned look, I think it is prettier than a tan look. Not sickly looking pale but those fair skinned beauties. Very Happy

Oh, me too! I remember when I was younger I really loved that deep, dark tan (not as tan as tanorexic mom, but pretty close Laughing ). Now, when I see people with a tan like that, I cringe a little inside just knowing that they are setting themselves up for deep wrinkles, sagging skin and a much higher risk of skin cancer in their future. Plus, it just plain looks awful. Give me ivory skin any time.

I am odd as I have never burned but when I did tan I would get dark very easily, Think that bronze color of Native Americans.

Now I avoid any darkening of my skin at all, I am totally on board with an ivory skinned look!

I personally (JMO) don't like the look of even those spray tans!

A quick question sandooch, did you receive an email confirmation? The site said to check your email after submitting your information! I have not gotten any email from them yet?

I got an email confirmation immediately. They say 4-6 weeks for the kit to arrive. Did you check your spam folder?

Thanks sandooch!

I have no idea why but I tried again with my same email and nothing, so I used my other email and got a response instantly this evening! I guess they don't like my one email provider? Laughing

I don't think it's true that people are born with freckles you guys.. Shock I thought freckles were 100% caused by the sun. And are purely sun damage. (Though some people like them.) It's just those who are genetically predisposed to freckling, get them. I'm a pale redhead with freckles. I was born stark white. But yes I freckle, and I hate them damnit LOL. I have freckles on my face, shoulders, arms and a only a few everywhere else. Thankfully I avoided the sun for the most part, except when I was a teenager. I have a few freckles on my lips too. Argh. Now I avoid the sun like the plague. When I was around 5 years old, a Doctor I was seeing for my asthma said "Oh! Angels must love you!" And I said "why??" And he's like "Because of your freckles! Don't you know those are kisses from Angels?" LOL! Laughing

I thought this as well...but both my kids have a couple of freckles on the soles of their feet and my daughter has a couple on her butt...and I guarantee that has never seen the sun!!!! LOL!!
