I have been fighting my hyperpigmentation for years....I am trying the AHA route at this point. Would love to know everyones favorite.
I currently use Paula's Choice 8% which I love but wonder if its high enough to fade my brown spots.

I use a physical s/s religiously and have done Obagi in the past. Want to try the AHA route...so please no Obagi rec's Very Happy

Thanks

Peter Thomas Roth makes an excellent 10% glycolic gel that has been very effective for me.
I believe there is 2 versions. The one i use is called 10% glycolic hydrating gel.
I use this along with a 10% vitamin C serum.

About 5 weeks ago I started using Alpha Hydrox 10% glycolic cream, but I also do lactic acid and TCA peel every few weeks. I had very bad melasma and some age spots around my eyes. They are very faded now, but it took quite a while to get to this point.

I'm not sure about the Alpha Hydroxy yet, but it's gotten good reviews so I have high hopes.

Paula's choice Resist 10% weekly resurfacing AHA is much better than 8%. You can use it every other day if you skin tolerates.

I would suggest trying Paula's Choice Skin Lightening Lotion, it has AHA & HQ. It will give much better results then just AHA alone.

I got a generous sample of both the PTR %10 glycolic gel and the moisturizer from Sephora. I think I like the moisturizer version better, a little goes a long way, and I might buy it. I used to use DDF 10% glycolic toner, which is amazing, but it has since been discontinued. Not sure if I should switch to PTR glycolic toner or moisturizer... would it be overkill to get both???

Gosha, how often do you use PC's Resist 10%?

Face Reality Mandelic Acid products - serum 8% on up.
It is also called Vivant direct to consumer.
Mandelic Acid, which is derived from Almonds, seems best for all skin types, and people of color who have sensitive, skin that tends to hyperpigment and inflame easily.

during this quarantine .. I've realized topicals are all I've got for this year. So, I purchased therapy systems glycolic face wash and the 15% glycolic cream for a.m. use. I use retinol at night. I can really feel and see the therapy systems working. I used it before years ago..and the comments I got on my skin were amazing. It is far better than the Dr. Zo stuff I purchased..even obaji's hydroxy acids. The 20% pads I've purchased off of amazon don't even come close. So..the product maker does matter.
I also watched a youtube video on a girl who did a two day a week simple pad peel that had mandalic acid and glycolic combo. Her skin looked amazing in her before and after. You might want to look through youtube also.

I'd steer clear of AHA higher than 8 percent.

I'm personally a HUGE fan of chemical exfoliation as I find it gentler on the skin than the use of physical exfoliation.

However, you really ought to be careful when using chemical exfoliation at high concentrations.

If you insist on high concentrations of AHA, I'd personally recommend you to see a skincare specialist.

Let them deal with the application and handle everything for you.

I suffer with hyper pigmentation and I find using glycolic~X and Retinol 1% works very well. My skin has improve quite a bit. I also use a mild exfoliant that is used with steam before rinsing. I started using a clinical skin care back in February after have a really bad reaction and my face broke out and I suffered major congestion, acne and was left with dark spots to my poor sensitive skin. Now my skin is clearing up and returning to normal balance.
