I have dry fair skin with alot of freckles that get worse in the summers. I use a 50 spf sunscreen.
At night, i am using retinol 1% and a cetaphil moisturiser in the morning.
The retinol has made my skin look real good but the pigmentation is still there.
Can you girls please suggest some products that would be suitable for me |

First thing to ask is are you using a physical or chemical sunscreen? And are you applying the recommended amount and re-applying every couple of hours if exposed to any UV light (reflects off concrete, snow, water, penetrates glass)? Cetaphil is not a particularly good moisturiser, maybe switch to CeraVe or find a more hydrating sunscreen.
For hyperpigmentation vitamin C is excellent and a great partner for retinoids. You would probably be best of with a non-acidic form so you don't further irritate your skin http://www.skincaretalk.com/a/map-serum-10
An alternative (or addition, you can use both) is a KinNiaNag serum http://www.skincaretalk.com/a/kinnianag-kinetin-b3-nag-antiaging-anti-acne-serum
Both these recipes are based on science, you will see links to published research in the body of the text. |

I just found out in another thread that I am using a rubbish sunscreen. it doesnt have any zinc in it...so maybe that's why it isnt working for me...even though I am not out in the sunlight all that much.
Thanks for the product recommendations but I am in the UK and every little ingredient is so hard to find here.
someone posted this in the other thread;
ARGAN OIL FACIAL MOISTURIZER SPF 30
does this look like a good formulation as a moisturizer and sunblock?
I have read up alot about skincueticals C E Furelic serum..are there any similar products that dont cost as much.. |

Look for a moisturiser or hydrating sunscreen that supplies the lipids found in a healthy skin barrier - cholesterol, long chain saturates (palmitic and stearic acids) and ceramides. Natural ingredients that supply these include lecithin, lanolin and West Africa shea butter. Most plant oils supply lipids that our skin barrier has no use for, some may even clog pores or irritate the skin.
Your link didn't work but is this the one you are referring to? If so very expensive for the amount, bear in mind to get the stated SPF you need to use half a teaspoon (2.5ml) for your face and neck, so would only get 24 applications so would last two weeks with a twice a day application! Also I would recommend SPF50 as your freckles so easily pop out, that probably means sourcing a combined zinc/ titanium sunscreen.

I am in the UK too so I know exactly what you mean about ingredients, there are a good number of UK DIYers frustrated by the lack of choice. Many order from the US or Asia for competitive prices and one stop shopping. This supplier has a kit for the KinNiaNag serum as well as all the ingredients for the MAP serum

I think the KNN serum works out to £10 each serum with this kit.
If you prefer to purchase ready made this company offers the KNN and a non-acidic vitamin C serum; I am currently using their KNN myself and it has a heavenly silky texture. They may well do custom if you don't see what you want

CE ferulic serum uses the acid form of vitamin C which is not advisable for anyone with sensitive or dehydrated skin.
