Looks like Sarah Vaughter of owndoc.com has some fascinating new developments! As as usual, she is taking cost into consideration and providing a product we can actually afford!!
The link provides the full article and specifics. There are apparently ways to incorporate this into skin creams as well...
http://owndoc.com/anti-aging/buy-buckminsterfullerene-c60-natural-anti-aging/
"The most exciting news in life extension science’s short history is the discovery that fully dissolved C60 (Buckminsterfullerene) in extra virgin olive oil has very potent anti-aging properties....
"If we were religious, we would be tempted, with the information we have about C60 dissolved in olive oil at this time, to call fullerene C60 a “miraculous elixir of life”. If we believed in voodoo, we would call it a “magic immortality potion”. But we are scientists, so we decided to manufacture and sell the exact same product: Highly purified C60, fully dissolved in extra virgin olive oil. Stirred for two weeks, centrifuged and filtered just like the solution in the original research. People are already buying C60 and dissolving it at home in olive oil and taking it (an unwise thing to do due to the nanoparticles that have to be removed with specialized equipment) and they’re already claiming beneficial effects [see Sarah's article for the link on the effects cited]." |

That's my take as well... ingestion. Sounds like some kind of Sleeping Beauty potion, lol! But this is Sarah Vaughter we're talking about so I can't see magic being too involved.
But it was mentioned in the article's comments that this could also be used (added?) into skin creams... |

Oh we now need a diy'r that can let me know how to do this. I'd definitely try it |

I emailed this link to Sarah... She and her PhD husband are pretty darn hard to impress from what I can tell and I'm guessing they feel there's more to the findings than a suped up version of olive oil. Will be interesting to see how this all develops... |

I think this is #6 on the top ten things that identify quackery. The conspiracy theory. Big pharma is behind the move to label fullerenes as "toxic" . Problem, is, they are not.

That's only the the first sign. This thing is riddled with them.

I value an open discussion and find much of value in the "tin hat crowd," as you put it, Dr J... so that argument really doesn't hold much water with me.
Nothing is sacrosanct - certainly NOT big pharma.
There's nothing wrong with knowledge and the unlikely, crazy places in just might take you.
We found out that humans could fly... the earth was actually round, and now science fiction is rapidly turning into science fact. I like exploring beyond the limits of what's known and accepted. And if it turns out to be hogwash, at least I have an interesting ride! |

ditto, I'd love to hear more, and yes if science were always right, we have no soul, I believe that still "can't" be proved.
eta: that sounds awfully religious, all I mean is science isn't perfect and can't prove it all, so I am def interested in further info |

I did receive a response from Sarah and was going to post it the other day but when I clicked on the link she provided, it ended up going to "page not found." Just now checked back, and the reply and link are ready! (sorry the graph is so large... Photobucket is not cooperating with me... if I can, I will edit and repaste the graph).
To recap here was my original question to Sarah:
Quote: |
Sarah, on the EDS forum someone commented the following and it would be interesting to hear your thoughts:
"A large percent of the benefits (increased lifespan) was due to the olive oil."
http://extremelongevity.net/wp...
|
Sarah's answer:
Quote: |
That is obviously wrong, as evidenced by this graph.
Isn’t it mainly the olive oil that extended the rats’ lives?
Some misinformed online commenters have said that it was in fact the olive oil that made the greatest contribution to the C60-treated rats’ extended lifespan, and not the C60 itself.
That this is false can be seen in the survival graph from the original study (our additions in green):
The median age of death for the C60-treated rats was around 62 months (slightly more than 5 years), wheras the median age of death for the olive-oil treated rats was around 40 months, or a good chunk more than three years. So the C60 rats lived more than one and a half years longer than the olive oil rats. Spectacularly impressive for an animal that normally lives only two and a half years.
The control group on olive oil without C60 was better nourished through the health benefits of olive oil and that this is why it outlived the water control group. But the olive oil only added about 30% more lifespan to the rats, whereas C60 + oil adds approx. 90%. No comparison. This means that C60 adds an enormous number of extra months of life to the olive-oil fed rats. It could be, though, that olive oil has something to do with C60′s anti-aging effects. It could be due to some kind of synergy between the C60 and its embedded long-chain fatty acid from the olive oil, turning the Buckminsterfullerene into a lipofullerene.

I know, it is fascinating, right? Tiny, you got to the answer before I could even finish typing, lol.
I think the questions in the thread below her article are very informative... skeptics could learn a lot just from that alone... |

Just read the dosage page. Interesting. The part about "until C60 is classified as a restricted nanoparticle" scared me. Would they really even be able to sell this for 15 years is my question! |

The nanoparticles are definitely concerning. I know Sarah and her husband plan on comprehensive filtration and will be testing like crazy (from what I'm reading). If it was anyone else I'd be more ambivalent...
This might explain a little more about how they can start selling it now:

Human dosing vs. rat dosing
You can buy our C60-olive oil solution for your pet rats so that they will likely live nearly twice as long. We can’t recommend you taking it yourself, because that would be a criminal offense, as we have been told by our attorney. We’d be closed down by the FDA, this domain would be confiscated, the site shut down, our premises raided, our computers confiscated and us fined or sent to prison. So please don’t take it yourself. Actually, don’t give it to your rats either, because we are not even sure that suggestion is legal. We are not licensed veterinarians. You can, however, use our Buckyball-olive oil mixture to lubricate your aging sewing machine with. That is perfectly legal says our attorney. At least for the time being, until C60 becomes a restricted “nanoparticle” substance, as part of a new “nanomaterials licensing law” or something.
But just for hypothesis sake. Let’s say you would buy the C60 oil for your rats but then you’d change your mind and want to take it yourself anyway. How much would most likely be a sufficient daily dose?

Yes, I read the purchase page and do understand how they can start selling it now. (And I thought it was funny too Tiny ) I just meant, won't they get shut down so to speak? You know what I mean? It seems too good to be true that they'd be allowed to sell it for 15 years without the fda shutting it down or something. (Because they'd have to make and sell it for at least 15 years as that's how long we're supposed to take it.) |
