Does anyone know of a PPD free permanent hair color? Clairol Soy has caused my scalp to crust and itch and my hair is thinning and falling out. I used the old formula Clairol for 40 years and never had a problem, but this new stuff stinks. |

Try Robert Craig...I have used it for years and love it. They will also help you formulate the best color for you prior to ordering. |

hi there, I think this is this is my first post, I've been reading the boards here, makeupalley,dr todarov for years. lol.
I am extremely sensitive to PPD - I get welts on my scalp that itch, ooze, and scab if I scratch from the maddening itchies.
My lymph nodes swell up ... I hate to think what this does to the poor liver/kidneys through skin absorption...
the only color brand that COVERS gray and doesn't give a hideous reaction that I've used is Richesse. I use Black #1 mixed with a 1/3 espresso brown #3 and the developer- 9 vol.
you may need to check the ingredients thoroughly to make sure NO PPD- but do look into it-Professional L'oreal Richesse - pink box, though they may have recently changed the name/packaging only (but not changed the formula) to Dia Richesse.
It's in a tube, you mix it with l'oreal developer. it's "demi-permanent" but the coverage Never fades for me, but look out- after the first 4-5 shampoos stain your white towels a bit- or pillowcases if you go to bed with damp hair...I just lay a towel over the pillow case if i go to sleep after a bath.
P.s. you have to have a license to buy from pro beauty supply or check around. good luck
ps I tried Henna - my grey way highlighted, not covered- awful!
I looked into Black henna - it had PPD ...hope this helps someone |

I meant it the demi-permanent color bleeds onto towels a bit for the FIRST 4-5 shampoos, but after that, not at all, and the gray coverage is 100 % for me , and never fades. |

Have you tried mixing natural Henna with black coffee (in liquid form)?

hi Jade,
No I have not, what does the coffee do? just so you know, I like my hair pure black (I just add the espresso brown in the Richesse so its a little warmer, but it definitely turns out black black)
again, I've heard there is no true black henna, and you must look at the ingredients because "black henna" has PPD.
I tried the Surya Henna from whole foods, it said PPD free, black-
It highlighted my grays! and the virgin growth in my natural pigment looked reddish NOT BLACK, and not at all what I was going for or even what Surya showed in the color chart on the box! |

All natural Pure Henna usually have reddish type of colors when applied to grey hairs. The coffee will make it darker, but not really black-black.

I know you said you were looking for a formula and I think I have a solution for you. This product has been recommended to me by friends and I have tried it myself, it works! It's called Love Your Color by Cosamo. It's PPD, ammonia, and peroxide free, which is great. Plus, it covers greys and comes in many different shades for whatever you're looking for. The color is really good and it's so easy to use at home since there's no mixing. It lasts for 6-10 shampoos but it's so easy that you won't mind doing it that often. I highly recommend this product as much as it was to me. I hope I could help! |
