Used my glycolic peel last night and got distracted... my face is covered with weeping sores, I look like I've been scraped along the road... I'm really upset. Please help
I used 50% glycolic acid. I usually do it for 2-3 mins which results in a bit of flaking for 3-4 days. I was doing my hair at the same time and got distracted, so it was on for 5 mins and the only thing which doesn't hurt is sudocreme. If anyone has any suggestions or has had a serious peel in a salon and knows what to expect I would be really gratefull. Have to go now cos we have a french exchange student coming, just to add to it all.

You could use Creme Reparatrice by Sisly
(Botanical Restorative Facial Cream W/Shea Butter) It doesn't sting and it repairs the damaged skin. (Ask for a sample)
Or if you have some Hydrocortisoni creme (thats normally used for eczema) you could use that...
and don't forget to use a good sunscreen/block!

Oh no Liz!! That's terrible! The only thing I can think of would be aloe vera gel and heaps of it too! That's just my opinion, I haven't been in the same situation. I know that aloe vera is used on burns though. From what you've written it sounds like it's severe so seeing a Dr would be a good idea too.
Hope that helps |

my doc would just be horrible...this is the uk you know have had to pile on loads of makeup so the french boy doesn't think he's visited a leper colony. Will defo get some aloe in the am when chemist is open and the eczema creme sounds a bit like the stuff I'm using with ample amounts of B5 gel. Thanks for all your help

Oh, Liz. That's so terrible! I would not use hydrocortisone on a burn. Aloe would be great and also you might consider a neosporin-type ointment. The petroleum jelly base will help the skin heal and the antibiotics in the ointment will prevent infection. Burns can be prone to infection and you surely don't want that to happen. This is so terrible! I have also heard that post-peel many docs in the cosmetics offices use pure silicone sprays, pure hyaluronic acid (a moisturizer that helps create a healing atmosphere for post-laser skin). I hope your pharmacist can help you. Good luck! How did the hair come out by the way? (Just trying to make you laugh a little bit...) |

sorry your glycolic peel has gone wrong, hope it clears up soon. would this be a bad time to ask what one you use and where you get it. I promise I'm not trying to be funny. I have had things go wrong too. Last week I used a microdermabrasion sponge got a bit carried away and my nose and chin were bleeding then they went scabby. I told everyone that I slipped and banged my face and then had to wear thick foundation to try to cover it. You should of seen me after I had N-lite I was covered in bright red blotches told them all I had an allergic reaction to a face mask.I didn't leave the house for a week. |

LOL at that loopy! the stuff I used was from lookgr8.co.uk. I wore make up today so as not to scare the french boy who is staying with us for the next 5 days...not sure I didn't look worse!
Better, my hair looks fab! Thank f*** for that! LOL! I had 1/4 bottle of skinceuticles B5 gel which has a lot of hyaluronic acid in it, but I have used nearly all of it and no chance of getting any more in a hurry, so I'll just have to hope that the old sudocreme does the biz, it is a real wonder for this kind of thing. I rather fear that I may have to pull a sickie when I go in to work on weds hope I'm not rumbled, but can't bear idea of going out in public!
Medusa (great name and welcome!), sadly I live in the arse end of the uk and loreal is the most upmarket brand you can get here! If I DO venture outside, I'll defo be wearing total block as always, to protect my nice skin...shit! forgot that I just totally screwed up my lovely skin |

You are so frickin' funny..I am laughing out loud and my child is looking at me like I am loony. Are you sure that you aren't the model for Bridget Jones of the number one bestseller book fame?
I'm so glad your hair looks fab! |

Better! Bridget Jones? perlease! I have no ambition to lose weight gain a man (unless it's jonny depp )or stop smoking (done that! lol). I may be unbelievably stupid, but I'm not neurotic! (sorry but the BJ thing has been going on for SOOOOOO long in this country, even before the book and film, that I'm sick of the bint!)
Hey just noticed her initials for the first time! I wonder if it is coincidence
face is slowly starting to fall off in little bits, my pal Claire, after telling me off in the most matronly fashion, has cheered me up by pointing out that I should look good when it's all cleared up.
Does anyone have any idea when I can start using my vit C serum again? Too scared to use it now in case I make things worse
Thank you all for the support you are giving me, btw. Guapaboy is very impressed too, thogh he is threatening to make me bin all the other stuff I use as well, telling me I'm getting out of hand

I'm glad you have a good sense of humor about this Guapagirl (and that your hair turned out fab ). Your friend's got a good point though - your skin should be baby-butt smooth after an ordeal like that!
I'm not sure on the vit C time-frame. If it were me I would wait till I wasn't shedding anymore and till any redness/irritation was gone.
The other thing I thought of too after I logged off last night was that pure vitamin E oil should be nice and healing in a situation like that.

Guapagirl.
I swear by honey and natural live yogurt(plain) I've used this on sunburn.
Nothing wrong with the other suggetions it's just I would want to use as simple a product as possible. Slap it on as often as you can. |

funny you should say that cos I've been popping EPO capsules now I've run out of B5 gel (can't believe that I used a months supply in 2 days )
As regards having baby bum smooth face, maybe that's the sudocreme as that's what we uk mums use to combat nappy rash |

LOL well if the B5 is working keep going!
personally I don't like using any heavy creams on burns as I feel they 'seal in' the heat. |

You've used up a 2 month supply in 2 days?! Wow, that's something! I guess you're hoping now that you'd get the same "undocumented" effects with it even if it's absorbed through the skin instead of being ingested. Kill 2 birds with one stone (or should that be 3 birds....? ). Probably won't be that lucky though....

I do you hope face is healing quickly..I bought some glycolic 30% from lookgr8 and used it once before my hols as was really impressed. Thought I would continue the peels after my holiday as I knew I would be in sun much of the time as was worried about sensitivity etc. I did continue to use Md forte 111 lotion while away (at night only) with no problems and used the ddf organic sunblock and came back with just hint of tan on my face which is great. I will make sure I time myself exactly when I start the peels again after reading your experience! |

Liz,
had you moved on to that strength after using the 30%? 50% seems like strong solution.
I've used 10% and can feel a tingle after 5mins god knows what state I'd be in after 5mins and 50% |

Liz,
hope your face is healing. I'm glad the hair is looking great. Ordered a 30% to start. I thought this site was supposed to help me save money, but all you gals keep telling me about new things that I must buy. I think I might have to cut my fantastic plastic up cos it's so easy to spend and I have discoverd in the quest for eternal youth that I have no self control

Hello everyone and thanks, the face is healing up well
loopy first of all I was using the 30% every week for about 4 weeks. I then took a break for about 6 weeks and used it again. The following week I used the 50% for 2.5 mins, and although there was a bit of flakyness over the next few days it was fine. I then left it for a month, as I'm a bit bung of peeling stuff as I'm worried about thining my skin, and used the 50% on sat night. Due to mult-tasking (doing hair & cleaning bathroom ) I ended up with it on my face for 5.5 mins. It looked ok and wasn't really stinging...until I neutralised it. I tell you the air turned blue! After I had patted my face dry (it was still ok at this point) I put on my B5 gel, skipping the C serum I normally put on first. My face felt really sore and was beginning to look blotchy, so I put some organic unpasturised honey on (Eve, great minds think alike? tho maybe you wouldn't WANT to be compared with my mind now lol!). It was still bad so then I put on this thick reparing creme that I love when face is drying up. BAD move! So the next day it was all, B5 and sudocreme that I got off oldest sprog and that was pretty good but what has made the diff was getting hold of the aloe vera gel! Total lifesaver I'm gonna do a review of it!
Finally as regards doing it again, no way! I've learned my lesson and, I have to say for your benefit Loopy, in the instructions from lookgr8, it says it can be left on for 10 mins. I really wouldn't recommend that unless you have a month to recover
Think that covers everything! Thanks for all your help and support

Sorry Gucci,
forgot to add that glycolic acid is a AHA (or is it BHA?) and chemically removes the top layers of skin revealing new skin underneath and also stimulating collagen production, so fine lines and scars are lessened. The stronger the concentration, the more layers go. Salons use 70% which results in a total peel (that is, your face is one big scab for a month). Many skincare products have 2.5 - 7% and they tend to lightly exfoliate the skin. I tried the 50% because I never really saw that much difference using the 30%
hope that helps

Thank you for explaining!....Flippin eck, 70%, one big scab...oooohhhhh, I'd be frightened. Sounds good though if it lessens the lines...I'll have to pluck up some courage... |

Guapagirl, you know of course by posting all this I've gone and bought some 30% solution? That probably says something about me but I'm guessing a couple of people will have been tempted to try it.
I felt like I was back in chemistry class, I have my bowl of bicarb spooned out, a bowl for the glycol, stopwatch in one hand, I went for 2 minutes.
I have been to the salon for glycolic treatments but I know they used lower % but they left it on for longer, (which is probably safer) and a course is expensive. Yes it does give a slighting itchy sting but nothing too bad, at the salon after they applied the solution all over and it itched they used to 'massage' the brush over the area to take the sensation away.
What I was a little shocked at was the fizzing when I applied the neutraliser - made you realise you really were messing with chemicals that could mess up your skin.
After I did this a couple of times, I used a soft damp cloth to take off the excess and rinsed. I was left with pinkish skin - similar to if you've been in the sun. I applied an MD forte hydration spray several times before applying skinceuticals B5 gel and this felt rine. Before I to went to bed I rinsed again, sprayed, gel, then applied Yonka cream for de-hyrated skin and DDF skin nourishing eye cream.
Today my skin does look fresher I will admit BUT please PLEASE ladies be very careful. Be aware it could go wrong and you'll end up like Guapagirl with burnt skin.
I'm happy with the effect but I'll apply my second dose with the same caution as the first. |
